It has come to my attention that there is apparently some cheat that lets you see the whole map. I have no interest in this cheat other than in confirming its existence. Is it really true that such a critter exists?

There used to be some real cheats build into Civ III. But that is long, long ago - Civ III 1.0 or something like that.

When you start a new game name your leader 'Leemur' and then save the game under the name 'multi'. Load that game and you'll see the enitre map.

Hi - is it possible to play in Windowed mode like it is with Civs II and IV?

I was just going to say that it does but I realized that I was thinking of Vanilla. In Vanilla, if there was an improvement on the tile that you could bombard, then you would hit units there that you had not seen. But then bombard was from much further away in those games... sigh

Depends on what you mean by invisible. If it is hidden by fog and in range, you can bomb it. If it is a sub or another unit that has stealth capability, no. You need a unit with radar to detect it, then you can bomb it.

Vanilla had a bug that allow bombardment, that it should not have. Vanilla was and is full bugs. Anyway you cannot bombard tiles in the fog. If you fly over a town and see a unit or ship, the next plane will not be able to bomb it, if it is still in the fog.

Darski, I am assuming that you are on a PC and not a Mac. What you might want to do is try to spend some time using the editor to look at the new units from Vanilla, and see what they do, and what the changes are. Having made the jump myself, I know that the changes take time to get used to. There are a lot of new units, civilizations, improvements, and Wonders to adjust too, as well as some new terrain. That is one reason why I like to play on islands or small continents, so then I could learn how to deal with all of the new material. Playing on a large continent or Pangaea, you are trying to learn at the same time you are battling to survive. That is not easy to do.

Quicky question:
Before marines, a civ can't land units from the ocean onto a space occupied by another civ's unit. Can you land in an unoccupied city, land on a worker or an artillary type unit? I have an island I'm looking to defend cheaply.

You can land on workers, for sure. Artillery probably. Unoccupied city, no.

The AI is not aware of this, so you can blockade your coastline with workers.

Obviously, Berzerkers are the exception to this.

I didn't know bezerkers could do amphibious landings! Oy, I lucked out. I was in a war with the Vikings and they never tried to waltz into my undefended coastal cities. I'll have to watch more closely next time. Thank goodness the AI is dumb.

Jorgo_Mono, I tried to follow the link to SGFN-05 in your sig, but it doesn't work.

Thanks for the heads up. It's fixed now.

I know I've read the answer to this someplace before, but I can't remember where. What happens when you capture an enemy artillery piece, but don't have the right tech you would need to normally be able to build it? Can you still use it?

No to artillery, or any other military unit, same with city. And your island is only safe if you can cover it easily with a small number of units. Personally, I try to make sure that I have some form of artillery and at least a couple of defensive units in each coastal city, and keep them upgraded.

Yes, you can defend the island cheaply!
I wan't quite sure what the other guys were saying (so probable cross-post)....but yes, pre-Marines, the AI cannot land if you have the tiles blocked with any units or empty cities.

I used this tactic playing Egyptians at Sid Level, using mostly workers to keep the AI from landing. ;)

I seem like some strange person who keeps sending this same message. Sorry. I really just need a quick answer to a problem that has been plaguing me for a long time about green face unhealthy cities. How can I make my cities healthy with a population over one million?

Thanks for your help!
