I think the saves go to Program Files>Firaxis/Atari/2kgames>Civ 3 Complete/Civ 3>Conquests>Saves/Saved games.

Probably should've checked that before I reinstalled...Oh well :/

one uninstall and reinstall later, there's still no Saves folder (It should be noted that I still have all my previous saves). Looks rather hopeless...Does anyone know of a way to take the saves folder from Civ 3 in-game and somehow make a shortcut or something? That's the only thing I can think of.

@anaxagoras
I tried what you said. I went in, did a random game, and saved it as "Tellytubbyland!" (I knew that would never appear anywhere else on my computer :p :D) and I copied it, pasted it into my search box, and... "No items match your search":hammer2::wallbash::cry:

You are running Vista? First, you need to be logged in as administrator. Then you need to set it to show hidden files. The save file has to exist, it is just hidden from just any user. Ah, Vista, your beauty is underwhelming.....

I'm the only one on the computer, so I'm an admin...could you tell me how to access "Show hidden files"? I'm not sure where to find it. Thanks!

I think its in your folder properties, under the view tab. Tell it to "show hidden files", there should be a radio button to enable this. I think that might do it.

Well, I don't see any "View" section, but there is a box marked "Hidden" and it's unchecked...blahhh:/

Being the only one logged on does not make you an admin. You userid has to have admin authority. It is a good idea to have at least two users with admin, in case one gets hosed.

It is not clear to me, did you in fact use the cntl-s and make a save? You should be able to use the searc function to locate any .sav file types in the system.

No believe me I have admin authority...I do admin stuff all the time (like confirming updates and such).

And yes I control-s save every time...Someone posted in tech support about it having to do with user ID or something...it must be, because nothing comes up in searches/

Maybe it has something to do with having Civ Complete installed on Vista.

It must be, because I've read another thread where someone who had vista couldn't access saves, and I believe it has to do with user ID permission or something like that. Not exactly sure though...

What if you create a folder called saves in the conquests folder and say yes to replacing the existing one if prompted. Then you can edit in that folder.

finally ive decided to sign up

:goodjob: for the guys running this site, fantastic job

one umimportant question: explorers have 2 movement points but treat all terrain as roads, so they effectively have a movement of 6. now say i want to pillage with an explorer, and it'll take one movement point off that guy right? but then how many movement points does this explorer have now, 1 (effectively 3) or 5?

Hey man! welcome! To answer your question, say you move the explorer 1 square, then pillage. He can then move 2 more squares on his remaining 1 movement point. Hope that answered your question ;)

@Meteor Man: That's a really good idea lemme go try it...oh except won't it replace all my current saves?

EDIT: it didn't even say if I wanted to replace it...it's like it doesn't even exist!

Save a new game and look back in that folder to see if the save is there.

As for hsy: Welcome to CFC! [party]:band:[party] You won't beleive how many times i've said that.

You will have 5 movement points left. Because it moves like all terrain is roads doesn't mean that pillaging takes three movement points. ;)

ah. I stand corrected :p

and yes I'll try it out

IT WORKED! Thank you so much for your help meteor man! only downside is all the other saves are gone...but thanks!:goodjob::woohoo::bowdown::rockon: sorry just glad it's over...man I hate vista :p

Have you tried that for yourself?

I did. The thing is that the Explorer doesn't have 6 movement points, it has two. So when you pillage, it takes away one of those points. Now it has one movement point left, and since it treats all terrain as roads, that means that it can use that point to move three tiles more. Just as a worker, for example, can do on roaded terrain, with it's single movement point.
