I have to agree, it's purely annoyance based. I have bombed the wrong tile or had a tile get pillaged because of the randomness of which unit is selected.
 
Sometimes, when trading my oil, etc. to an ally, the deal doesn't end. I've had to actually destroy the road connecting me to my ally for the deal to end. How can I cancel the deal at/around 20 turns?

There are a couple of ways...

1. be sure that "Always renegotiate deals" is marked in preferences. This will remind you to deal with the deal.

2. if you don't want to mark that... when the deal is no longer serving your needs after 20 turns you can go to the diplomacy screen and choose "wish to propose a deal"

This takes you to the table and you can see at the bottom "New" and "Active".

Click on the active trade and it will put the trade on the table. click on any parts of the trade to remove them from the table and say goodbye.

As a for instance. I had peace treaty, Millitary Alliance and some lux on the table. I clicked off for the MA and the lux. that left the peace treaty in place.

I know that I asked this before, but I really am in needf an answer again because of my hardrive wipe, what is a good, free, rar and zip file extractor. Notice the word free.

where in the Editor does it control the rules or probabilities of cities deposing? I really enjoy this game, with the exception of some of the extreme oddities involved with cities deposing for non-sensical reasons.

First time poster here. Haven't been able to find answer to this question: Does the AI charge a higher price for luxuries depending on how many you already have? In my experience, it seems the AI charges more for luxuries when I have more than three.

Woof6712 - I'm not sure of the real technical answer, but in my experience, it seems I receive less compensation for luxuries or resources that I have a lot of to trade. The answer gets confusing because the gold received is also affected by the relationship you have with the trading partner and the commonalities of your cultures traits (or lack of commonality)
 
my 2nd question to end the year -- settlers. (A) Are there additional risks of using 'barbarian' settlers produced from my cities with multiple cultures (in the end it seems the laborer in the new city is of my culture)? & (b) are there risks of using settlers that are the culture of another CIV (i.e. I am Japan, but a captured Russian city eventually produces a 'Russian" settler, which then produces a city with a Russian laborer)?

To answer your second question jtdog, the only risk is if you are at war with the civilization whose citizens are in your cities. They will riot much more, saying that you should try to make peace with their former country. Barbarian settlers don't cause any problems whatsoever as a laborer, but their workers will work like normal slaves, in other words, very poorly.

Yes, this is due to the increased value it is to you. Consider you having 3 lux and markets in many cities. If you gain the 4th one you add more than 1 citizen content. In addition, the more towns you have the more you get out of the extra lux.

If you were playing OCC, you could get the extra lux quite cheaply, as it is not as great of an impact now.

When you set up your game, you can uncheck the 'Allow Cultural Conversions' option. In case it isn't completely obvious, doing so will prevent cities for deposing.

Since this thread has become the main "go to" thread for all questions about both civIII and the forums, i'll ask this quicky here:

I want to start a new scenario but need hell(p) from previous scenario makers for their experience. Is there a place that I can post a development thread for my new scenario?
 
I believe the general response to questions of that nature is "Ask in the C&C forum."

As for compression utilities, I'll give a nod to IZArc
