Can anyone help with a year/turn calculator? I'm working on a histographic win, but i'm worried about hitting 100k first. It would be good to know exactly how many turns are left to see how much I need to worry. It's currently ~1700 and I'm at 52k culture, making 218 per turn, giving me 220 or so turns to 100k. I know it's 1yr/turn from 1950 on, but I don't quite remember up til then, and obviously searching on "turns and years" and the like returns every single post...

Thanks.

@krakedhalo: You need SirPleb's Date/Score Calculator!

Not only will it give you the dates, but it will project your Final Game Score!........Perfect for Histographic Victories! :)

BTW, for HOF Histographic Victories, I keep these utility programs open:
1. CivAssist II
2. CRpMapStat
3. CRpViewer (To keep an Eye on the Competition!)
4. SirPleb's Date/Score Calculator. :)

Thanks guys, that was fast! I've never been able to get CAII to work quite right (it gives an error on loading, I have the right .net framework update or whatever installed, but no dice.) I'm using MapStat for the first time in this game, and thank goodness I did! The first time I opened it was around 1500ad, when I'd been eyeballing it to try to stay under the dom limit. I was under - by TWO tiles.

I've played Japan on several games with culturally linked starts unckecked. all AIs random, but I keep drawing the same neighbours in my continents games (Mayas, Aztecs and Incas)

I remember reading somewhere that this was a bug and there was a workaround. I just can't remember what. Or maybe my memory is playing tricks. :crazyeye:

What is the AI script on city foundation? Just to find available land and build on it? Or is there a reason why I am suddenly granting little concessions to civs halfway round the world from where they are settling?

They settle to grab land and also settle to grab resources, some of which you can't see, which is why you find isolated town in desert, tundra, jungles, hills, etc. The AI knows where all resources are, unlike the human player.

Quick question on mutuawl protection pacts.
I'm in the modern era and after a long peace got caught planting a spy and was declared on. I successfully prosecuted the war and now am alone on my continent, so am feeling secure. Unfortunately, the whole bloody worls is locked in MPP's so at one point, 4/5 AI's were at war with me. I'm looking for a 20k cultural victory and don't have the patience to conquer the world, so I'm trying to get peace. The trouble is everytime I try to defend myself, another AI declares and then refuses my envoy.

My question is, what exactly triggers a DOW when the AI's have a MPP? Can I attack a unit, defend, shoot down a plane or is it only attacking on the AI's home terrtory/atacking a city?

ToA expires when the owner discovers Education. If you capture it though, and you don't have Education, it still works for you. So it works out as...capture it, beat up the world with Cavalry until you get 2 culture pops from it, then re-take the GLib to get all the upper branch techs or even further, depending on what has been researched.

MPPs trigger with any offensive action in enemy territory. In your territory, you can attack at will.

Well, I know that culturally linked starts are bugged, in that having it checked always draws the American culture group. (I think that's the right name, anyway.) AFAIK, unchecking it should have solved that for you. I don't recall hearing about any other workaround, but maybe there is one that I just haven't heard about.

You're safe as long as you're within your own territory, but as soon as you're in the territory of an AI, you're at risk. Just BEING in someone else's territory during the interturn can trigger an MPP, without you doing anything.
I personally think the way MPP's work in the game is terrible, it's a bug.
Example:
I have an RoP with India, and a vessel of mine is crossing their territory, perfectly legitimate, right? India has an MPP with Babylon, but that would never get triggered in this situation, no? WRONG! If India decides to declare war on me and attacks my vessel, I am seen as the aggressor, because I was in India's territory in the interturn, and the MPP will get triggered and Babylon will declare war on me! Never mind the RoP that was in place.

This really happened to me and I was really ticked off..

When you say "all AIs random" I'm pretty sure that this has nothing to do with it, but if you select certain AIs manually for one start, you'll get the same AIs on the next start if you don't change it. (Not sure exactly in which circumstances the AI are kept the same though.) However, you should see the same AI in the slots when you start a new game in this case, so I'm sure that this is not your problem.

Does your opponents change if you change map settings? Try a tiny map, and then switch back to your preferred size, and see if opponents change…

If that doesn't help, try a new computer and hope for some luck. :crazyeye: :D

If you don't want certain tribes, pick your opponents. Pick some you rarely see, or some that are actually culturally linked. Playing as Russia, pick Germany, France, Vikings, England, the Celts, Portuguese and Spain. Playing as China, go India, Japan, Mongols, Korea, Russia and some other tribes that had interactions with China... say middle eastern tribes like Persia and Arabia. Use your imagination to get more enjoyable games.
