How can one tell if they have a holy city? Is it marked like the capital or something?

The little religious icon for a city will contain a star if it is the holy city for that religion.

There's a symbol of the religion with a star above the city name. You can also see it in the religion advisor screen.

Being color blind is presenting me with a problem in IV. Is there anyway to rearrange colors for civs. I know they all have flags, but when I get China and the Japanese next to each other, it is really a problem. If not change colors, is there a way to eliminate maybe one or the other from a game before it starts to keep the headaches down????

Yeah, the Germans and English look very similar too, and as far as I know I'm not color blind. It's still not as bad as the Sengoku civs in Civ3 though!

1. Maybe someone answered this and I just missed it, does having extra health in a city help in any way, or is the excess (say 15 health and only 8 unhealth) wasted until the unhealth grows?

2. What does the little grey star under the city name on the map mean? I think it's at the far left, by the unhappy or sick faces. Puglover's answer: It means that city has the effects of a second capitol. Versailles does the same.

I believe that star denotes the civilization's capital city (or Forbidden Palace city).

Yes, it's Versaille or Forbidden Palace.

Could be, I'll check tonight. I don't mean the big star around the population number though if that's what you have in mind. But it could be a seat of govt thing.

It is. It means that city has the effects of a second capitol. Versailles does the same.

I have a city of one that has plenty of food around, but it is stagnant. Can I do like in III and build a worker and have it join the city?

No. The only way to grow a city is to generate a food surplus and fill up the food box. (Except for the one-time boost from the Hanging Gardens.)

Press Control-w while in a single player game. Although it allows you to modify the game while playing, it isn't as good as the one for Civ3. There are some programs though for modifications if you look in the creations and custimation forums made by some of the people here.

I have one city with a 5 pointed star and one with a cross. When I go into the city screens I a a couple that show Buddhist. In a couple of cities I have temples and churches and Jewish places of worship (can's spell the word). Am I really messing up this game or should I try for a mixture like real cities?

Building any and all temples will give you a culture and happiness boost, but only build the advanced form (Cathedral, Academy, Mosque, Synagogue, Stupa, Mandir, and Pagoda) for your state religion. Also monasteries are all good build any that you can.

Do I decide my state religion or does the game by what has been built.

Will I be advised when I have a state religion and can I change it if I should choose to?

I know too many questions.

The game will ask you when you discover the tech (if you're first) if you want to adopt the newly discovered religion as your state religion. Otherwise, go to the Religion Advisor screen (the praying hands at the top right of the screen) to manage state religions.

You can also access the Religious Advisor screen by pressing F7.

1. Does capturing the HG add one to each of your cities? Does losing the HG affect population?

2. Do Mosques and Synagogues and Cathedrals and the like help at all if you have Free Religion?

They act just as if you were under a different state religion (ie Christian Cathedral whenn you're Islamic), so not all the bonuses, but still the +50% culture and +:).
