HELP, HELP, HELP
i'm a longtime c3c addict. i play w/TML mod on a xp machine. my prob is that i went on vacation and when i got back c3 would not load. it will show the first splash screen and the cd drive starts, the screen goes black like atari banner is about to start but it doesn't. instead it goes back to my desktop. tried starting fm desktop, start menu, and conquest folder all with the same results. uninstalled the whole game and mod and reinstalled just the game. no joy, same prob. i cant last much longer without a fix, hope somebody out there has a solution.

is it a bug or something I missed?
Hi, Arska. It's something that you've missed!

You set up a trade with America quite a while ago, selling your saltpeter to them for 5gpt. Se attached screenie. It didn't end after 20 turns, presumably because they are quite happy with the cost.

If you want it you will need to cancel the trade via your diplomacy screen.

Edit: Is the ROP with America worth giving them iron? Surely you could get a better trade with someone else for it.

Ah, of course, an old trade, I didn't think of that. There's also another saltpeter that one of my allies cut off just before I took a few cities from Iroquis... and also that Iron trade is another old one that I just forgot about, so I should fix both of them.

I don't use it myself but you might want to tick "Always Renegotiate Deals" in your preferences menu :mischief:

Maybe some auto windows update? I would backup my files (saves and mods). Uninstall, clean registry and Install. See if it works and then put the mod back on.

Ataxerxes said: Sun Tzu's gives you a barracks in every city

me: Yes, that's what I'm talking about. I realized after I posted :/ that I can use the Encyclopedia for basic info... then again an already made list would save me the trouble.

Here is what I have learned since my post:
  • Oracle = twice the happiness that a temple creates
  • Colesseum = 2 unhappys become 2 contents in that city
  • Pyramid = a granary in every city
  • Great Wall = every wall is stronger (?)
  • Hanging Gardens = 3 happy in that city + 1 happy in every other ... sweet with many HG's
  • Sun Tzu's = barracks in every city

!!! I hit the jackpot! There's gold in them thar' CivFans Threads! - gold threads that is... http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3/wonders/ (I found it doing a google search for "Great Wall CivIII" and et viola' - oingo boingo - THE LIST APPEARED! :crazyeye: )

Spoonwood said: Your score will probably improve significantly if you play a higher level than Chieftain.

me: I wondered about that but was too "afraid" to try and be destroyed on my first attempt. I usually win the Chieftain "I can steal candy from a ... small baby" scenario, but now I have to try Warlord.

:goodjob: Thanks again to all. :goodjob:

Nice, you should move up. Once you learn the differences between each level and get at least to monarch, you will think Cheftian shouldn't be level 1, more like 1/2.

Living Dog - watch out for wonder addiction. The ancient era wonders usually aren't worth building. Even the Pyramids, powerful as they are, take too much time from settling early cities, building workers, and expanding.

I hate the Oracle. It obsoletes so **** fast. Never build it. Hanging Garden's ain't my favorite, either. Colosseums are expensive and have 2 gold upkeep. Great Wall isn't worth it to me, maybe on high levels, but I doubt it. Sun Tzu is nice - don't forget the gold savings from not having to pay 1 gold for every barracks. Don't build Great Library until you know how to use it.

The only ancient wonders I build is SoZ if I have Ivory and the Pyramids IF I get a SGL. SoZ really helps with expansion.

Also, don't even consider the Great Library until you reach Monarch. When I was a beginner I would build it and still keep out-researching the AI.

Hi, I'm new to playing Civ3 I bought it off Steam a few days ago. I played Civ 2 and Civ 4 before. I loved playing Civ2 and had it run just fine on this computer but Civ 4 I had to run with minimal graphics/settings. I hardly play any Conquest or scenarios. I usually play random maps, I play on an archipelago style map since I had a bad experience of starting right next to an extremely aggressive AI once. But anyways back to my main question, I want to know I can import a map from a save game into the editor so I can edit it. I have a map the I love play and just want to edit it more to my liking. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you can do it with a save game. Check on the creation forum, though maybe someone knows of a way. You can find the seed number and create the map more or less the same.

I personally can't stand that option. I want to be able to cut the deal's off. With that, you can only break it every 20 turns. I use Civ Assist, so I can easily check.

Say what?

You don't break it after 20 turns, you end it after 20 turns.

If you "break" it sooner than that you have trashed your rep.

As I said, I never tick that one myself but I do keep an eye on them with CAII as you say.

It becomes anew then if you renew it every 20 turns. Because you renegotiated it. If you just let them do their thing, you can get away with breaking it mid turns. You still can't break it in the first 20 turns.

Also, 2000 posts. :w00t:

have cleaned registry, manually eliminated reg files under atari & breakaway, reinstalled yet no joy. any other reg files that need removal??

The only two things I can think of are 1) video drivers as I have had that issue in the past and actually replaced the video card 2) Securom issues. iirc they used Securom for the antitheft tool and the last patch had caused some problem for player, including the CD not being recoqnized.

Check the know issues in the thread on bugs and see, if it has been dealt with by others.

I remember that issue with my Vanilla CivIII. I installed with a new disc that I bought as the old disc went 'funny'. I had to play with the old disc in place after installing with the new.

That's a nice thing about Civ4, I can run it without the disk and have Civ3 with the disk at the same time. Computer still runs almost optimally! :goodjob:

On another note, I completed my second Warlord game today! I played as Japan (my new fave civ), played a Standard game, won in 1902 AD with Domination (66% area, 75% population) and a new high score of 2013 (which is coincidentally, the year I will graduate from high school)

I am Tokugawa the Clever.
