A question regarding spying and stealing tech ...

I havn't tried this option yet as it seems quite expensive, just wondering how it works?

I assume that you must have an embassy established before you can plant spies ...

When can you start to send espionage missions?
Then there is the issue of the three price levels, is the more expensive option a guarentee of a successful mission?

I guess the whole spy element of C3C is confusing  ... any links to tutorials?

Thanks in advance :goodjob:

You don't need an embassy to plant spies; you just need the intelligence agency. The more expensive choices have a greater chance of success and a lower risk of getting caught. Stealing techs is most helpful late in the game; it makes getting the modern age techs much less expensive.

Here is a study of espionage missions.

I wanna know if you are able to view the city aerially, and how you would do it. I could've sworn that when I was playing civilization 3, you could do that. And now I have conquest, I can't seem to find the button for it. Can someone help?

Kind of going on memory here, since I'm at work and have had the game less than a week, but.... isn't there an "eye" icon in the upper right of the City status screen? Click on that, and you can view your city.

Edit: Oh, and what's really cool in Civ 3 is that the landscape changes, depending on if the city is on the plains, a river, etc. I don't know why, but I just found that really cool.

Really? Gonna have to look at that when I get home. I put Conquests on over the weekend, so maybe it's gone and I didn't notice.

how do you put a patch into a game after you download it? i got the smilies advisors add-on saved already, but i can't put it in my game. i have the ptw expansion.

I see there is a lot of interesting units, graphics & modpacks in this site. I have a few questions regarding it:

* Where (which folder) should I put them to install?

* Do they change anything in the original game?

* If it is a new units, can it only be used in scenarios with these units?

Can anyone give me some hints or point me to any threads regarding this?
Thanks!

Can someone tell me where I find and change NoAIPatrol on conquests?

@Luther--I would go to the mods site. Those guys are awesome.

Thanks Denyd--It sounds like I'll have to load one of those files....

Here are answers for mods:

Put them in your .../Civilization III/Scenarios/ folder (Default install place is C:/Program Files/Infogrames Interactive/Civilization III/Scenarios/. If you have PTW, it'll be in ../Civilization III/Civ3PTW/Scenarios. If you have C3C, it'll be in ../Civilization III/Conquests/Scenarios.

They don't change the original game. If you want the units in the main game, you'll have to add them manually.

Don't be afriad to ask questions relating to a specific mod in their respective thread, but this is some general info. :)

In accelerated production is everything doubled? Meaning the game play time is basicaly cut in half (except for unit movements).

Not *everything* is doubled. For example, tech costs are halved, and so are the minimum and maximum times to research times.

AP has these things halved too:
* Half shield cost for all projects
* Half food required to grow
* Half research cost
* Half upgrade cost

Just use your logic when thinking if it's halved or doubled, to which makes the game go quicker. Doubling unit costs and tech costs doesn't seem right, does it? :)

Thanks for the swift reply and the thread link :)

Another question regarding spying -

I assume that the AI rarely sends out spies since it is usually me that establishes embassies (only 3 can I recall being built by other civs)

How can you tell if an ememy spy has failed infiltrating you?
Are you automatically informed?
Should you regularly spend cash in exposing enemy spies?
Or is this something that a human player expoits and therefore should be considered when playing in Multiplayer Mode?

If they fail, you will be informed.

That's what I meant :p
Doubling output by halving costs ;)

Thanks for clearing it up. :goodjob:
The only time I've ever played with AP was on multiplayer because everyone was whining that they wanted it. (Yes I was hosting) I don't like it, but for multiplayer it can shorten an otherwise lengthy game.

Actually, if you're playing a regular civ3 ap game, the tech times aren't halved. you have to do that manually in the editor, or play the Accelerated production mod.
