What job should I set my first worker to do? I tend to building roads in the directions of my future cities, so as to make the settlers get there faster. But then again it would probably be a good idea to improve the land around my capital first.. I've tried both things and I don't know what's better. Hm.

@The Fjonis: I build a granary first in my capital.

If there are forest tiles: chop for shields, no road.
If there are bonus food tiles: irrigate, no road.
If there are bonus grassland tiles: mine, no road.
When the granary (and your first settler) is complete start the roads within your capital.

Use the lux slider to keep your citizens happy, might reach size 5 before your settler is ready.

@The Fjonis: compare these:

1. Chop forest (4 turns), then road (3 turns) = 7 turns.
2. Road on forest (6 turns), then chop (4 turns) = 10 turns.

Assuming C3C, non-industrial civ.

Can you have more than one Golden Age?

Carriers equipped with bombers and fighters and everything seem like they should be a cool part of late-game Civ. But I never end up using them, because something like 80%-90% of my bombing runs fail. I can send out 16 bombers, and MAYBE I'll get 1 or 2 hits.

It doesn't justify the cost of building them, and I always thought it was pretty lame on the part of the people who made Civ3. So why didn't they fix it in C3C? Why make such a cool part of the game so badly?

...because you are very unlucky. Bombers in C3C are very, very overpowered. If 16 bombers = 2 hits, 64 bombers = 8 hits. 8 hits = screwed AI.

Elaborate...
Bombers have a ROF of 3. That means that those eight hits will be about 16 points worth of damage, enough to kill off most of the defenders of a city. Bombard again and you can just walk in.

How do i go about uploading a save game file on these forums?

I'm wanting someone to have a look at my game and, as I'm not very computer orientated I would appreciate if someone would give me some pointers.

Cheers :)

Thanks Tomoyo, I understand what you mean now :goodjob:

First, zip the .sav file, (you don't have to zip it, but it cuts the file size down) then when you go to post, before you do, click on "Manage Attachments" browse to where the file is saved.

Just what are you attacking here? Fortified Mech Infantry on a mountain? Or in a metropolis?

Bombers are VERY powerful if used correctly, they really kick a** against ground units up to Infantry or so and against all ships. But you have to remember that the probability of damage is relative to the attack strength of the bomber (12) vs. the defending strength of what you are attacking.

Attack a Mech Inf fortified on a mountain and its 12 against...em, 16*1,25*2, unless I've forgotten something, that's 40, so you'd expect to have a lot of failed bombing runs.

There are combat calculators on this site where you can get more exact data of attacker vs. defender probabilities.

Just curious - how come some scenarios are huge (~100 megabytes) while others are tiny (~50 Kilobytes)?? Downloaded a WWII scenario today, only 40ish kilobytes, and I know Rocotech's is close to 100 MBs..

It depends on how much the scenario/mod changes. Some are huge, because they replace a lot of units or graphics for the game.

Also, it should be noted that Civ3 can compress it's own save. I've never done it compared to zipping the .sav, but doing a Ctrl-S in game will compress the file.

I'm looking for some info on favorite/shunned governments.
How long should you stick with the preferred government?
What's the advantage?
