I would just try and find a cheap copy on ebay. can't be that expensive there now.

Quick question: as I learn more about reputation, I'm starting to look at the finer points. Let's say I'm Mayan and I'm planning on attacking the Germans next door. The Germans have an MPP with Arabia. I'm not trading with the Germans but I do have an active trade with the Arabians. If I attack the Germans, which then causes Arabia to declare war on me, am I the trade breaker or is Arabia?
 
a quick question about railroad bonus - was quite surprized to read in civilopedia that railroad increase mine and irrigation production only.
so it wont increase gold at all?
and what exactly does it mean - mine production? will it increase by 50% shield output of any mined tile? or it will increase onli shield output due to the mine on that tile, in other words railroad wont do anything until i mine it?
 
Sandman: Arabia is. You're not forcing them to declare on you.

Mongol: What railroading does is to add to however you improved the tile already. Let's say you've got a normal plains tile. That by default would be a 1-1-0 (Food-Shield-Commerce).

With irrigation it's 2-1-0 and then railing it's 3-1-0
With a mine its 1-2-0 and then railing it's 1-3-0
If you just rail the tile it stays 1-1-0

(All calculations are based on a non-despotism government)
 
denyd, if i have a hill with iron, then i mine and railroad it - will the railroad increase shields from mine only or from iron also? in other words:
is it
(original_shields + mine_shields)*1.5
or
original_shields + mine_shields*1.5?
all rounded down of course (is down or up?).
i hope this makes sense.

PS you forgot about commerce due to roads in your example :)
 
Why do I always get barbs from goody huts?! I have CivIII Conquests with the latest patch (1.22)... I have recently only played militaristic civs BTW, no expansionists.
 
Mongol: I don't think rails increase the commerce. As for the mined iron on a hill, then hill is 1-1-0 and with a iron would be +1 shield for 1-2-0 and then mining is +2s for a 1-4-0. Adding rails moves it to a 1-5-0. The most powerful shield tile available is a mined hill/mountain with rails and either coal, aluminum or uranium. that would be a 6 shield producer.

Sausnebb: What level are you playing? At Chieftain you only have a 10% chance of barbarians while at Sid there is a 90% chance. The tougher the level, the more likely the chance of something bad happening unless you are an expanionist.
 
Well that explains it. Duh! I'm currently playing my first deity games. Is it really worth all the lost warriors to open the goody huts?

At Deity here are what you can expect (non-expansionist):
5% gold
5% maps
5% warrior
85% barbarians

With those odds, I'd never pop a goody hut with a warrior. You can however drop a city next to a goody hut and the hut will not product a barbarians. No barbarians within 1 tile of city (or when tribe has no military units, think worker popping hut)

And even if you were expansionist:
20% tech
20% gold
20% settler
20% map
20% warrior

But you can only get an ancient age tech and you can't get a settler if your city count is about the average for the whole world.

Mongol: I think the search function is very server intensive, so they leave it blocked on weekdays. It is available sometimes on weekends. It's probably faster just to post your question here and have someone post a link to what you're looking for.

The only people who can search right now are moderators/admins. Search is very intensive on resources, and slows the servers badly. However, Thunderfall is working with Telefragged (the host) to upgrade and tweak the servers. Hopefully, search will be available for everyone again, soon. :)
 
Can anyone tell me, why when you have overrun a rival civ, do their cities always tragicaly underperform in terms of production even if they are quite sizable cities e.g. size 12
 
I think EVEN if you built your own cities in the same location as the AI's cities, they would have the same lousy Production!

It's all a function of distance-from-capital AND number-of-cities. As these numbers increase, so does corruption & waste! :)
 
Yeah, its due to corruption, a major element of the game. Basically the further the city is from your capital (or the city where your palace is), it will be more corrupted and production is many times slower due to massive shield wastage. You can build courthouses, police stations, the forbidden palace and secret police hq (for communist governments) to combat corruption.
 
I'm 99.9% sure this isn't the place to ask this, but how would I go about activating the palace view and getting the game to record my score while using snoopy's terrain?

I also wasn't sure if it was worth upping the snoopy thread just ask this question.

EDIT: after taking the time to read the Snoopy thread :p I've found what i'm looking for.

i have another quick question about getting leaders:
i know that u can get a leader when your elite unit winds a battle, and the probability is like 1 out of 16(against other civ units). my question though is about what battles, where your elite unit participated, are counted?
1. if my unit is BEING attacked and is victorious - can a leader spawn after such a battle?
2. killing units inside a city also counts? the reason i am asking is that i am waging a war now and have quite some wins with my elite units, but no leader yet :( and most of those kills were those of units in cities, so i thought that only battle in the open field can spawn a leader.
3. if an elite naval unit wins a battle - can it spawn a leader also?
4. consider this situation - i have quite a few elite tanks, but they didnt give me a leader yet and i can upgrade to modern armors already. lets say, i do NOT upgrade those elite tanks, only veterans and below, so eventually i will have elite tanks and modern armors on the field. can i still get a leader from each of them?
