I ran into somthing I've never seen b4 in C3C just now... I finished off the Japanese and stopped starving off their population since they cannot flip their cities back to them now that they are gone... it is now a few turns after their demise and some of thier (my) cities that still have 6+ people are very un happy due to "we cannot forget the cruel oppression"... Does anyone know what this is and how long this unhappiness is going to last? Is this because I killed off their govt? or is it because I have killed many, many of their people by starving off their captured cities?

Thanks

"We cannot forget the cruel oppression" usually refers to drafting and poprushing. I'm not sure if it's applicable to other actions.

If the AI poprushed the city, or drafted before you captured it, then that would be a reason.

How might I/is there a way to remove/replace/upgrade units inside a army? Id hate to have to delete a whole army because I cant upgrade it.

I had a deal going with a nation, some annoying enemy troops cut our connection which I guess canceled the deal because I couldn't then deliver the resource. Now nations don't trust me because they think I "welched" on my deal with america. Is there a way to get that trust back so I can once again trade resources for tech (so far behind in tech) Or am I just stuck for the rest of the game with this untrustworthy label? Does it wear off over time?

I gave america some free stuff for good will but it doesn't seem to do any good concerning this no trust crap (given it more free stuff then what was in the canceled deal from enemies cutting the connection) America even has its back against the wall with a fight with the myans and wants me to help. It will give me gold per turns but not tech because of that stupid trust issue. (how does it expect me to join in its fight without tech?! stupid AI)

Nope, there's no way to do it. Sacrifice the army in a town that needs an improvement (unfortunately, not a wonder) and you'll get some shields for it.

No, there's no way to get over a broken rep in the game. You could always go to war with a civ that's got the techs you want. Take over enough cities, they'll give you techs for peace.

Unfortunately, you can't 'make up' what happened.

Grrr! How stupid on both accounts :p I really should have played civ3 before buying it.

America is my only ally in this game, its back is against the wall with its war. I suppose I could sneak in and stab it in the back to get needed tech. Its the only civ thats weak enough to do so. The rest are so big and far ahead of me in the tech tree that if they decided to declare war I'd be screwed.

Do you get any tech for finishing off a enemy? (I mean wiping it from the game?) I suppose its not like alpha centuri where defeated enemies can become brothers in arms if you want. (pledge loyalty and give you all their tech and stuff)

Another stupid diplomacy issue, you can't demand stuff if you offer anything in return. Like you can demand a tech or gold from a nation. But you can't for example offer a little gold in return and "insist" on the trade.

Stupid? Perhaps. But what gets you this game you could use against others on your next game.

Consider it a learning experience, and try and take these lessons and use them in the future.

As for techs for killing off enemies, no that doesn't work in Civ3. It was a nice feature in Civ2 (I never played AC) and I missed it at first in Civ3. But the more cities you take, the more techs the AI will give for peace. You just have to unquestionably have a superior military and show the desire to take that civ out. I.e. - take all but the last city.

I feel your pain where diplomacy is concerned. I think it could have been done differently. But it's really not all that bad, once you get used to it.

The pop 6-7 transition IIRC. Should become useful again. Never heard anything else.
Just elaborating: 6 is max town size, 7 is where it becomes a city. And walls DO come back whenever your city drops back to town size. (It's quite stupid really - in the city view, the walls appear all broken down at size 7, then at size 6 they're magically restored again. :crazyeye: )

You need to be 30 years old and you need a beard... j/k.

30 posts and a member for 30 days IIRC.
