I don't see how it would be possible to distinguish between 20k and 100k victories. I have done simultaneous 20k and 160k several times, and I also did a 3 x 20k tiny 3CC; it's always just a "cultural victory."

Is there a trick to deal with wasted wonder shields? AI keeps beating me to wonders yet sometimes not before I've invested a truckload of shields to it. If you have another wonder to fall back on. I guess you could do that.
If you switch to a Palace to keep your shields until another Wonder becomes available (Known as a Pre-Build).......BUT, if the Palace Production box is going to fill up, then put the city into DISORDER....this will cause it to stop producing useful shields!......it's not perfect but you can at least use the shields when the Wonder becomes available! ;)

GOTM does.

Yeah, but only by examining the save to find out which victory condition has been met. That doesn't help the case of both conditions being satisfied on the same turn.

i have the option to buy either 'Civilization 3- Play the World' or 'Civilization 3 - Conquests'. Which one should i choose, taking into account that i have no need for multiplayer games in general. I need more moding possibilities...

i would like to say that i'm not asking you for the overall best out of the two... which one do you think would suite me better?

cheers for any input :worship:

Conquests! Without a doubt! Generally* speaking, PTW was included in Conquests, so get it, you get both. You'll also get the most recent editor.

*=there was some mods, etc on the PTW disk that they didn't put on the C3C disk, but most of it's available for download at this site anyway. ;)

Hi! Sorry that this may be obvious, but how do u "unzip" files that you download from here. I have tried before but I could never get it downloaded.

You can find various .zip files on the web. Here is some of them that you can use.

If you have XP, Windows automatically treats a 'compressed' (cuz that's what a .zip file is) file as a folder, and you can use it just like a regular folder. I personally prefer ZipGenius, but there are a lot of different files to use.

Basically, you download the file to your computer. Then, using XP or another zip utility, you extract the files. Generally, you can start the process by double clicking on the file. From there, you extract the files to the desired directory. Most files include some kind of readme, and they usually tell you where to unzip it too.

Kinda vague answer, I know. But unless you have a specific file in mind....

i've recently been made aware of the fact that c3c includes most of ptw... i'm just curious as to whats in ptw and not in c3c.

thanks for any input :worship:

Just a couple of units.

They can be downloaded at www.civ3.com so it's not really as if they're 'not included'.

Go to the site, go to Conquests Downloads, and you can get the missing units there.

If you have civ gold with ptw and you install conquest are those few units already in? I notice conquest installs in a separate directory.
Should be.... But I think that Conquests doesn't like Gold for some reason. I recall seeing quite a few people with problems installing it.

And all three install to different directories. So if you have Vanilla, PTW, and Conquests, they all have their own directory. Well, PTW & C3C are subs of Vanillia....

Nope, that's multiplayer only.

Besides, it really wouldn't work with the AI... they make all of their decisions instantly, so unless there was a 'delay' put on them then this'd really unbalance the game. And anyway, why on earth would you want to play simultaneous turns in single player? The point of that option is to speed up the game, and it wouldn't do anything for just a single human player!!!

It works with age of wonders 2. I usually play my single player games in simultaneous mode with that game. And the AI doesn't do things immediately. It takes time, not allot of time grant you with civ 3, that might have something to do with AI being plain stupid in civ 3.

Also, when its turn based some players always have an single turn lead against other players. When playing single player your the one with that lead. But I want a even fight.

There is other quirks of turn based games, like if a player gets a wonder, the player next in turn gets the opportunity to switch production and get the next wonder up. (if they have access to it)

I've never played simultaneous turn games in civ3... I'm curious, how do they deal with the Wonder thing?

It destroys most of the improvements. There are some cases where improvements will be still standing in a city - but I haven't figured out exactly when and why this occurs yet. (I'm sure someone here knows a logical explaination though. :) )

Good point! You are right, of course!

 I really don't see how which type of cultural victory "comes first" makes a difference in any way whatsoever...???
