Hmm? I want to make a couple of settings default. Like giving Curragh's transport, giving jungle squares more output, I was thinking food 2 money 1. (from unique goods found in jungle squares) I suppose if I overwrote the default games .big file that would make it harder to play against other players? I'd have to file swap else I'd get incompatible resource error or something? Unless they also changed their base game settings?

All the .biq settings are saved in the .sav game file. Multiplayer uses the settings from whoever is hosting the game.

As i said, do not overwrite the conquests.biq in the Civ3\Conquests folder. It is read only anyway. Any changes made to it will cause scores to not get recorded in the Hall of Fame. And if you didn't back it up, you will have to reinstall C3C to get it back. Always save it as a scenario and start it from the civ content menu.

Instead of worrying about specific numbers, just learn what affects corruption and have a basic understanding of how it works. You don't need a calculator to play the game.

Learn to play the epic game before making changes to it. Right now, you just don't like jungle... play on temperate maps for less of it or restart till you aren't in the middle of it. When you have a better understanding of how and why the game works the way it does, then you can make intelligent modifications.

And even if you did get change the default .biq file, Conquests does a checksum on the file, and if it doesn't match what it expects it to be, it's considered a scenario and HoF scores are not save, nor are the palace view and city view allowed.

Curragh getting transport and jungle getting a little more output are no brainers.

Ive played games where I got stuck on a island, if you have to wait till map making just to get off your at a horrible disadvantage the rest of the game. Since you can't explore and pick up bonus barbarian huts and you quickly run out of expansion room. Doesn't help if that player/AI is a expansionist.

Jungle takes forever to clear and gives so little. It doesn't make sense for jungle to give so little. Plus its a source of plague. And theres no real advantages to counter this. Not even a shield surge like that of forest. It makes no sense, jungles are more wasteland then desert in civ, till cleared. (guess the makers of civ never heard of people actually LIVING in jungle) In reality jungles are a great source of alot of things. Scientific advancement, food, wood, rare commodities..

I don't need to be a expert player to know these are common sense needed changes.

So the only disadvantage of overwriting conquests.biq is scores not being recorded? You still get the score read out at the end of the game, right? Sounds like its a good idea to overwrite it, with making a backup. How do I do it?

Well, first copy conquests.biq to something like conquest.org or conquests.bak.

Then take your mod that you want to use, and name it conquests.biq.

Really, tho, it's just easier to make a scenario/mod (rules only, no map), load it from the Civ-Content menu, and just use that.

I see, You mean the larger the map the more cities it allows you before you get corruption? Damn, The whole point for me to want to use Xlarge map is OCN preventing over expansion and allowing for unused landmass latter game.

Well if you guys could point me to a OCN calculator I could use it would be appreciated. I can barely understand that post concening general corruption and OCN short of actually making a calculator myself. (fine I'm stupid, I'm sorry. I need a calculator :( )

the only way for unused landmass later in the game is to raze cities and not replace them fast enough.... but this tends to make the AIs mad at you :D

Kinda doesn't matter if you're dominating the game, though. ;) As Elizabeth says somewhere in the manual: "You cannot please everyone, but if you rule the routes of trade and have the world by throat, it matters less." Probably not an actual quote from her, but still, very true! :D ;)

I'm pretty sure the AI will continue to send out settlers even if they're over the OCN when there's landmass available. As I recall, it's not as many as if they're under, but they still pump them out.

To whom that concern about OCN,

Do not pay attention to the OCN number! Build as many cities as you like - the more the better. When it comes to building cities, there is really only one rule: each city must yield a profit or extra income to contribute to the empire. That's it!

Hint: In an extremely corrupted cities, just have a lot of taxmans/scientists. Therefore, all cities can contribute something to your empire as a whole.

I have a basic question regarding the editor: how do you place units in the map?

I can edit units, but I don't seem to able to create units or cities!

Set an "Active Civilization" (Click the shield icon or hit space), and then select the unit icon (by the size of tile one (1x1, 3x3, 5x5, etc), or hit U) and click where you want the unit(s).

Thanks! The secret was the shield icon!

One more thing: what is a "bonus tech" in the Civilizaton Advances menu?

I just started creating my own maps and have a question. What are LM terrains? I can't find a definition anywhere. Thanks for any help.

If you want a special terrain that has different stats, but is like the regular terrain, use Landmark Terrain. So if you want special hills in a location that have 2 food instead of 1, you can edit them and place "LM Hill" to create hills with 2 food. Since you can't add new terrain, this is the next best alternative.

When people post the turnlogs in SG's what exactly does something like
Thebes archer->barracks or New York archer->archer mean? Sometimes I also see => instead. Does this mean anything different? Some clarification would be greatly appreciated.

It means Thebes just finished producing an archer and is set to begin producing a barracks, or that New York just finished an archer and will now make another one. :)

Edited to add: -> and => mean exactly the same thing.

Hi,

I’m just hoping that someone could help me out. I seem to have no trouble winning against the AI on Regent, but the jump to Monarch seems to be a quantum leap for me. I’m one step behind, then two, then ten....

The question: Are there any experienced players that could give me the ABC’s of the difference between Regent and Monarch? What are the actual, specific differences? Not just that it’s harder, but what exactly makes it harder. If I know the differences then I can modify my strategy/management.

Thanks all
