Yes. And Yes.

The mods should be installed to a sub-directory in your conquests folder. Then you access the mods through the Civ-Content menu option. The default rules are kept in a different place, and generally are not affected by mods.
 
Just thinking...

When improving tiles I always went for the option that already had most numbers (food/gold) on that tile. Like I would irrigate haystacks/cows, and mine Gold...

Thing is when it came to 2/2/0 tiles I never knew what I should do with them... Is there some kind of balance I need to follow or? I never thought about this before but it looks like it might improve my gamplay... Like all the cities in dessert or tundra... I always tried to irrigate evertything, but maybe that is wrong thing to do...

Any thoughts ?
 
Personal preference, really. Oh, some people will say do this, others will say do that. I say, do what makes you happy.

I used to go with trying to get thie most pop in the cities. Then I realized that any pop over 20 is a waste. Generally, I keep it below 25 now (some specialists are nice) and rarely go above that. Unless it's an extreme situation, like a city surrounded by flood plains.

Find the balance that's right for you, and go with that.
 
I try to get food up to an even number allways... to keep from "grow-starve"

Also I try and get shields on every tile (when possible) Your GA will add 1 shield to every tile that allready produces one. Thus if you have an irrigated grass and a mined BG you will have 3 shields in your GA.
If you had mined the grass and irrigated the BG you have 4 during you GA. This <can> make a big difference.

As for shield count Try to get at numbers that even out on the builds (waste as little as possible). Example: Producing 10 or 11 shields will not make a difference if you are building a 100 shield project/unit. It will still take 10 turns.
 
Actually, that would be 5 shields during your GA, wouldn't it? 2 shields for the mined BG, one shield for the mined grassland, then one each for the GA, right?
 
Yeah I noticed that I was food crazy when I played chieftain, and I got a few great cities but with very low shield production, while I had 2 cities that had some crazy shield production but didn't have more than 21 in size :)

I clearly remember one of the towns, poor thing was in the middle of mountains (I took it from Zulu) and it had like at least 4-5 shields on most of the tiles, but there was almost no food around :( So it never grew big...

So does only building the mine and railroad increase nr of shields on a tile?

Also when is it that I get shields after disbanding soldiers and when is it that I don't? Does it have to do with barracks or with what you are building ( I wanted to "rush" wonder maybe that is why it didn't work )

Railroads increase the number of shields or food by one, depending on whether or not the tile is irrigated or mined.

You can't rush wonders that way. The only way to rush a wonder is to use a Great Leader, or in C3C a Scientific Great Leader for a small/great wonder, and a Military Great Leader for a small wonder.

Also, you can't chop a forest while building a palace and then switch production to a wonder.

What are the conditions for going into Golden Age? Is it random and how is it determined?
 
You must possess wonders that match your civ traits. When a wonder is complete, the program checks to see if you have (a) wonder(s) that meets the GA requirements. If you do, then a GA is tripped. Note that the wonder you've just completed doesn't necessarily have to have the traits for a GA. It checks all wonders.

And, of course, sucessfully winning a battle against the AI (non-barbarian) with your Unique Unit.

Well, there are a few other things that increase shields per tile, actually. City improvements like the Factory and all the different "Plants"... Golden Ages of course... and Mobilization. (Probably something else I've forgotten too.) ;)

EDIT: Oh, the Offshore Platform too...

Now that you mentioned plant... I'm not really sure I understand how plants work :(

Ok so I build Factory, and than Coal Plant after it... After certain tech (can't remember its name) you get to build Hydro plant... I build one... IIRC I still had Coal Plant in my city. So do they stack perhaps? I thought Hydro plant was just "upgrade" and you "lost" Coal one...

I also noticed that when I build Hydro plant first in some town I can still build Coal one after it.

Other than that, Hydro plant doesn't pollute but it doesn't stop Factory from polluting right? Is there anything that can reduce/stop Factory from polluting? And when do citizens start to pollute? At some specific pop number or? (there was this building that reduced citizen pollution IIRC)
 
Pollution caused by population begins when your city is above size 12.

Hydro plant isn't an 'upgrade,' it's a replacement. You can always go back and build the dirty coal plant, which will then replace the hydro plant.

Mass Transit, available with Ecology, will reduce population pollution. Recycling Center, available with Recycling, will reduce factory pollution.

If you mine both yes.... But I was revering to "strategicly" choosing your improvment....
Trying to point out that you sometimes have to make a choice... Iether Mine the BG and Irrigate the grass OR Irrigate the BG and Mine the grass.
In depo offcouse mine both....

Way back when I'd just got the game, I actually made that mistake... and kept making it!!! :lol: I was doing it in about a dozen cities, actually... Coal Plant, Hydro Plant, Coal Plant, Hydro Plant...

After a while, I finally woke up to what was going on. Needless to say, I've never made that mistake since!!! :D

Since "palace" IS a wonder, did you mean "...while building a unit or city improvement..."? :)
