Do you kill the russian and Iroquois before they got a chance to attack you? The foreigner is a bit strage, they dont care if their units get killed or their cities are captured. But dont like that yours units got attacked or your cities attacked. (Its a bug)

20 turns in your territory is 20wwp. Not enough to trigger ww.

What, exactly, is meant by "suicide galley"? I had presumed that it meant a ship that went out beyond the safe range, taking the risk of being lost at sea. But I've never been able to get a ship to go farther than is allowed by the tech level; that is, if I only have Map Making, I can't get beyond the shallow water even if I want to. What glaringly obvious piece am I missing?

Thanks.

@KaDingir, you presumed right, that's exactly what it is. You can only move one tile at a time into unsafe water though. You either have to use the numpad, or use the mouse to move to only adjacent tiles.

And this I sink. I am forever getting one tile too far.

Captain Pete,
Nope, I have both (Bach's and the Sistine Chapel).

Yeah, I slaughter them with bombers and Sipahi the turn they roll in. That's very wierd. It's so kind of them to care more about the safety of my troops than their own.

Does it matter how many end their turn in my territory? Because they come in by the dozens or more.

No, 1 or 100 units does not matter. They will only get 1 wwp each turn.

And I think the check is in the begining of their turn. At least it is for human,

Can I play CIV3 in a window? I have full set (orig+ptw+conq).

Or if civ doesn't support windowed mode, can I achieve it by using some third party program? Any ideas? I'm using WinXP.

AFAIK, Civ can't be windowed.
But you can switch to other programs, if that's what you want, by pressing Alt+Tab. You may also return to the desktop by pressing the Windows-key.

So how can I drive up their WW? I have some unfilled armies while I wait for MA, I could fill a couple with Mech Infantry and land them to do some pillaging, would that help?

Is there a way to increase food production in marginal areas that have high production areas and would benefit from more citizens?

I've had a number of cities with very high gold/shield squares, but not enough food to support enough citizens to take advantage.

Probably something obvious, but I'm still a relative newbie.

Regards.

@Markus5

If the city doesn't have enough food to grow (ie it doesn't have surplus food) but has squares that could be worked and produce two food you could send workers or settlers to join it to increase the population that way.

Markus5: It depends what technologies you know. From the start you can irrigate a tile, that adds +1 food to each tile. If it's a coastal city and you know Map Making, build a harbor (+1 food from all water tiles). If you know Steam Power and you can build a railroad, you can add a +1 food to each irrigated tile. You can also produce workers/settlers in core cities that have reached a population limit and join them to the desired city (but you must have enough food to feed the new citizens)

In case you are a Civ II player and were thinking along the lines of Food Caravan, those don't exist in Civ III.

No. I will push cities to expand if there are squares with 2 or more food unused.

In this case, there aren't any extra foods to allow the very high gold/shield squares to be worked.

I would be nice to 'produce food' just like 'produce wealth' to get enough citizens supported to work the high yeild squares.

Regards.

Electricity allows irrigation in some areas, too, right? I guess I can wait for electricity and maybe get enough food to support working the high yield area.

You can irrigate the desert with electricity, right? But high yield squares in a mountain city are a challenge.

You can't irrigate mountains or hills. C3C has an additional way of increasing food production: agricultural civs get an additional food in the city center if the city is next to a river.

But mountains can become high yield squares in the industrial age. If you Mine and railroad them, they can be fairly high yield and are usable as long as you have ample food. Also if they contain gold, gems, iron or anything bonus that adds greatly.

Electricity allows to irrigate w/o a source.

You could irrigate deserts before electricity if you have a source to irrigate from, but desert cities are only effective with rail roads or for agricultural civs.
A city in the middle of a hill/mountain/tundra cluster is always just unproductive.

There is a way to do it....it's kinda clunky, but check out this thread.
