wvfoos: Unconnected strategic resources do not expire. Those that are connected run a chance (odds are editable) each turn. When they do expire on one tile, they will appear on another, normally on the same land mass and sometimes on the same tile.

danman: You have to turn off the wake on enemy contact, then you can have each artillery auto-bombard a target. This a good plan for shelling a metropolis for a couple of turns while attacking a couple of smaller cities. Not really what you had in mind and I feel your pain. Having to bombard with 50 artillery pieces a size 22 city with Mech Inf defenders until you redline all 3 of them and reduce the city to size 5 is a real time eater.

I'm playing Carthagians against 2 AI civs (English + Dutch) on a Tiny Map, Sid Level, 80% Water, Warm, Wet, 5 Billion, C3C122.

Any Tips for getting a Military Alliance with one of the AI's against the other?

I think I'm gonna need a lot of help to win on Sid!? :)

All tips/suggestions are MUCH appreciated!

Well...if you declare war on one of the civs first, then it is always easier to get a MA. One other thing: I would go for a MA against the smaller civ, in hopes of getting more land = more production. Then go to war against the bigger civ. Yes, I think you need some luck! Have fun!

Thanks for the tips Ginger_Ale. :goodjob:

Recently, at C3C Deity Level on Tiny Map, I declared war against the AI civ further away and then managed to MA with the AI close to me....AND let the 2 AI's slug it out while I recruited some military might to take out the AI's later.

However, when one of them was weak (viz. had 2 cities remaining), the stronger AI wouldn't fight any more!

During this entire process, the warring AI's would agree Peace while I would still be technically at war with one......so I had to renegotiate the MA.....to get them back to WAR!

IMHO, The KEY questions are: How do you know when you can GET a Military Alliance? If you have enough CASH, can you always get one? How MUCH cash is ENOUGH cash? What other ASSETS can you trade for a MA? :)

GET:
If either you or your desired ally are at war with the target civ, you could sign a MA. Plus, contact must be available.
CASH:
Money rules the world... except 'GET' isn't true or your rep is trashed (gpt not possible, that is)
ASSETS:
You can offer/get everything (except cities).
It's even possible to include a MA within a peace treaty!
disclaimer: It's beyond my imagination to set up this one on a tiny map with two AI rivals on Sid, possibly pangaea...

Note that this procedure is no 'guarantee' for the MA to last 20 turns, because your (former-foe-now-)ally would indeed sometimes sign peace with your foe, canceling the peace treaty with you in the process (their rep trashed)! It may also be risky because if the foe gets wiped out, you could get a rep hit for breaking a peace treaty. I dunno if it's always the human player to take the rep hit or if it's depending on the order of play, respectively who crunched the last city/settler.

I guess you knew all that aleady and were looking for a formula...:(

Thanks for your thoughts Grille! :goodjob:
(When I received email notification, I was hoping you were replying to my questions!)

Yes, the objective is to get the 2 AI's at War with each other (BTW, Yes it's Pangaea).......if they are already, I don't need the MA! ;)

Yes, the Rep Hit stuff is something I haven't had the luxury of studying too much as yet...........in my Sid game, I was just about to get the c--p beaten out of me at my capital city AND had the Peaceful civ "annoyed" with me (Ugh!!).............Last Resort: Tried the "What do you want for a MA" line........Voila, they made an offer, which I quickly accepted! (after "reducing" the gold of course!)..........The civ attacking my capital immediately pulled ALL their forces out of my territory to defend against the "new" foe..............AND my Rep with the friendly AI suddenly went from "Annoyed" to "Gracious"!!?.....Go figure! :)

Yes, in my previous game, the 2 Warring AI's agreed Peace before the 20 turns were up, BUT I managed to immediately get another MA in place.....so War resumed! :)

Yes, an MA Formula would be nice.......perhaps a friendly "anonymous" Firaxis programmer/analyst will throw us a few tidbits!? :)

Ok, feeling dumb! I can't seem to get my troops to load onto ships, be them galleys or transports! It's driving me bonkers  I have the troops in a city with a harbor and I'm trying L for load, U, hitting every button...HELP! Thanks for not laughing... ;)

If you have a transport-ish boat in a city, and have a unit in the same city, just press L and the unit will be inside the boat :) It may not appear so, but if you then move the boat out of the city, the unit will come with it.
You can also just station your boat outside the city (on the coast), and move a unit onto it as you would any other square. You should note that all boats have limits to how many units they can trasport.

Hope that helps, and welcome to CfC :)

You can also check this without moving the transport by right-clicking on the city when viewing the main map. In the units list it will say unit in transport.

If you have the galley outside of the city you will lose the movement point of the unit though so becareful if the ship is going on a short trip, and you plan to unload a fast unit on the other side.

I am glad to know that. I always got outside of the city to load, but it seems loading inside the city is much better.

Maybe it's the "not looking like it's on the boat" that's fooling me! Thanks so much! I'll give it a try... :goodjob:

CAN you get a Military Great Leader when an Army wins a battle in C3C?

For example, let's say the Army contains 3 non-asterisked Elite units. :)

Anyone know where the details on autorazing are hiding?

When do you capture a size 1 town and when do you destroy it?

I thought that there was something about having foriegn citizens in the city as well? And remeber the culture could be from any civ, so the borders may not have expanded.

It is also possible for cities with size > 1 to be autoazed?

If it has no culture of the invader or the defender in it, it will be autorazed.

I don't think Size >1 cities can be autorazed.
