One more thing, putting fighters in is probably pointless if you're playing c3c. In c3c bombers have lethal bombardment. If you move in fighters they can't intercept the same turn, so they'll get blown to bits.
Yeah, dammit, you're right. I started putting fighters in my cities, but they were always gone right after being re-based into the cities. I'll hold off on playing further until I read the article you suggested.

If you can build the SAM improvement.... I have dropped 10 bombers in a row with it....

The best solution for airstrikes is to go take their cities!

How many offensive troops could you build by the time you get all that AA stuff?

I'm just playing the COTM4 and this is what happened:
I'd been fighting the aztecs when the iroquis declared war.
The two were at opposite ends of my country and all my troops obviously at the aztec end. Aztecs wouldnt even talk, so I got the amricans on side (military aliiance against the other two) by bribery (a tech). A few turns later I made peace with the aztecs.
Now I've just made peace with the Iroquis, and when I made the peace deal, all of a sudden I was at war with the aztecs again!
I didn't declare war, they didn't declare on me, it just HAPPENED.
Surely this isn't right???

When you made peace with the Aztecs did you make an alliance with them against the Iroquois at the same time? If so then the 20 turn peace deal and the 20 turn alliance deal are tied, so breaking the alliance deal would also end the peace deal...

I just went back to check and you are right, I did.
I don't remember doing it, but then I was tired last night when I made the deal.
Shouldn't play when I'm that tired.
Well, live and learn.
Thanks Dianthus.

It also sounds like you mutilated your rep. You probably want to make more of an effort to honor those 20turn deals. A better tactic might have been to ally with the Americans against just the Iroquois, so you could make peace with the Aztecs whenever. By the time you were ready to make peace with the Iroquois, the deal should have been nearly up.

On the bright side Math, my rep got SHOT somehow in COTM4, Probably similar to you, just not paying attention. I still ended up beating the thing though, so hang with it :)

Thanks Para,
I was a bit put off by such a mistake. But I suppose I just better get on with it now.
I don't tend to worry about my reputation very much / enough.
After all I'm not palnning to marry them, just slaughter them. :D
I suppose I'm still not convinced enough that even with a good rep I'll get such brilliant deals, that it would be worth stressing over.

Hey guys,

Is there something (a post, thread, article, document, whatever) that shows the AI's general pattern of research? I think I remember something from a while ago, but I can't find it. Can anyone point it out to me?

Thx in advance.

Edit: Never mind, I found what I was looking for here. Much too complicated, though; I'm afraid I'll just have to continue blindly guessing what the AI will research. :p

1. How much/how does the Universal Suffrage affect war weariness?

2. Do you achieve conquest victory if you are the last civ, even though you didn't defeat every civ? I think I remember that you don't. If it's still like that, then it's really annoying........

3. Why choose commie?? Or feudalism??

Thanks

1. One citizen in each city is unaffected by WW.

2. It's not like that anymore.

3. Commie is great for big empires, and Feudalism's only use that is fairly common is when you are using ICS. You can also use it for a FRFR game.

1) Not as much as you'd like... 15% would be my guess.

2) I don't remember that problem. If you are the last civ standing before 2050, you win.

3) Communism is good for a small to medium widely spread out empire. If you are playing C3C, it's bugged in your favor and should be the late game goverment of choice with a huge empire while you take over the world.

Feudalism is good for the players who put a city every other tile and want a huge military.

Try them out and decide for yourself.

Here's something... I noticed that you still get the term "regular" used to describe armies no the main info panel; does this mean that if a city has the military academy and barracks then it'll build "veteran" armies, and is there any benefit to having a veteran army rather than a regular army?

(Anyone thinking of responding by talking about the individual units within an army being regular or veterans, don't bother, as I am sepcifically talking about the ARMY unit)

I think the veteran is just a designation for an army built by the MA (or vice versa).

I have seen armies with the exact same hp's be described as both regular and veteran. AFAIK, there is no difference in the two.

The only way to get a veteran army is to have a barracks in the MA city. I did hear, once upon a time, from one source only, that if all units in the army are elite, then the army itself can get promoted.

The only advantage i can think of would be the retreat chance @ 1hp.

The army probably just gets the "promotion" chance just like any other military unit, since it would be harder to remove that feature than just use it.

Does a barracks give a vet army? Can an elite army spawn a MGL?

I've had vet and elite armies before, but never got any bonus.

There was that one time when I got a MGL from an army attack - way back in some vanilla patch.

More study is definitely called for - scenario builders, test that!
