GOTM35 was easily my best CIVIII game yet, so I was disappointed that it didn't show up on my high score list. Does the program only record high scores for games that were, um, generated locally?

Being a GOTM game, it's very likely the rules were modified. If you're playing a game and don't use default rules, it won't show up in the Hall of Fame- even if you do something as minor as add city names to a list.

For VC3 you can take the .bic file and rename it civ3.bic in your main civ directory. Then the scores will show up. This works for .bix files for PTW, as well. But not for C3C. They introduced a checksum against the conquests.biq file to make sure it's the default rules.

I don't know why they don't allow modded scores into the HoF. But seeing how 'pure' the HoF community is here, that would be my guess. One would think it would be simple to add a column for 'Modded' games...

Make sure you back up the orginal .bic/.bix file before saving the new one!

This has probably been asked before, haven't seen it yet though...
are the advances (that you research yourself) gained before everything else is computed at the beginning of your turn or after; ie. can I safely send my galleys out to open seas if I'm one turn away from researching astronomy, or is there still a danger of them sinking?

At the beginning, but I don't know if it comes before or after food is calculated.

I've heard some talk about Austria being a secret hidden civ, and I assume theres some truth to this because in the editor, the Napoleonic Europe scenario shows Austria to be different from purely invented civs like Kingdom of Naples in that it has its own civilopedia entry and city name list. How do I access this hidden civ? What are its traits? Its unique unit?

Look around in Creation and Customization. There are how-tos (and better yet, already-mad mods) that have incorporated Austria into the game. Its traits are Militaristic and Industrious, and its UU is a 7/3/3 Cavarly unit. :)

That makes sense -- Thanks for the feedback.

What's the difference between a cannon and a H'wacha?

And, does it cause a GA after a succesful bombardment?

Do you mean stat wise? No stat difference. But H'wacha's have Lethal Bombard on.

The GA would be triggered after the H'wacha kills another unit. So unless Lethal Bombardment is turned on(as in C3C), you can't trip a GA with a successful bombard with a H'wacha.

So, c3c has standard legal bombardment on? Seems ok!
And when it is turned off, there is no diff at all?

also, i think it doesn't require iron, just slatpeter (cannon requires both IIRC)

@Stapel - Yup, that's right. But the default for LB is on for H'wacha's.

@ybbor - That's right, H'wacha's only require Saltpeter, while cannons require Iron as well. I didn't look that part up.

Ok! Thanks guys!

Does anybody happen to know where I can find a save with Hwachas rady? Some SG for instance?

The only Korean game I know of is GA1, an infantry only game with the purpose of using the hwatcha a lot. It hasn't reached the MA though.

Yeah, we're still in the very early ancient era..

I think SuBI1 was also the Koreans, and I want to say there was another pretty recently too....

I still don't understand this Austria thing. Is it a hidden civ the designers put in the game? Or is it like any other modded Civ one could create, like Canada or Poland?

All the components are there which can be added in a mod. There isn't any way to get it to show in a normal game.
