Quick question - are fractal maps always like this?

I rarely play fractal, but after my recent trek into the world of SE threads, I decided to knock the levek down a bit and play a Prince/Fractal SE game as Ghandi. I also rushed to Cats/Elephants, and never built a metal based unit until 1000AD+, so when I started the Statue of Liberty near the end of my game, I was curious why the production doubler text was red. Turns out my lands looked like this:

No copper anywhere on what was by far the largest landmass. So anyways - how common is something like that on Fractal maps?

Not too common, but its an interesting touch. This distrubution of early strategic resources would provide an interesting flavour to the game's opening sequence.

By the way... i take it you don't have to get up at 7 am...?

It would have been MUCH more interesting if it had been a higher level and I had needed the copper. At 1600AD it was just a novelty.

As for the time of day....yeah, work starts at 5:45pm for me. When law school begins in August I will have QUITE the adjustment.

It's not common. Then again, nothing is common on Fractal. It's the most random map type. You can get one huge continent or 4 continents with it... the same way, you can get a different distribution of resources about every time. I've had a huge Fractal landmass without a single source of Horses, for example (a right pain in the rear, too, I assure you).

I love fractal maps for this very reason. For every one who hates protective try rolling a start where you are boxed in with a lone civ, no copper, no horses on the continent.

I actually conquered Mansa and his skirmishers as Sally with nothing but some Drill II Archer (By some I mean maybe 50) By the end I had gotten 2 GG and was cranking out Drill III archers from my Military city.

That was fun.... I even managed to eek out a diplo win too!

This is why a lot of people who have played for a long time enjoy fractal maps. Gives you unique challenges that you have to adapt to. Elephants and catas rule though

Why don't I see all these ressources popping up on my map, like on this screen (and many other screens on this forum).

Is it an option I have to add ?

Yes. When zoomed in at a normal level (no clouds), the first thing I do in my games is click the second and last small button in the bottom right of the screen. The second from the left turns on the grid, and the last (or righttmost, not counting the larger globe button) turns on view resources. I consider that button 100% essential to playing the game, as well as 100% essential to lurking SGs.

Oh I see
Many thanks
