Hi all.....

On only my second Civ V game (didn't finish first one, lost the file... :(), and I'm about to build my first settler. But....I've just noticed that the city building it is now producing 2 extra :c5production: for a total of 7. It tells me my base is 5 (3 from buildings/2 from city squares) which is correct, but the total says 7. As soon as I change to building something else, it reverts to the correct 5 :c5production: . I can't see it written anywhere that when building a settler you get extra :c5production: points. What's even stranger, is when I change my city square workers to get extra :c5production: , it stays at 7, instead of becoming 9. Wassup with that then?? :) I mean, obviously I'm not complaining, but I want to know why!!

Oh, and while I'm here, what exactly does it mean when it says "Spain has publicly denounced and Unmet Player to show the world blah blah...".......it's the publicly denounced bit I don't get.....

Thanks in advance
David

Part of your food is turned into production when building a settler.

i gotta quick question.

If i capture a city that has petra or colossus do i get the extra trade route

Ah thanks all, and yep , got it direblade99, that'll be why then. But I'm buggered if I can find that written anywhere. A small thing, I know, but, well, you know................ :)

Sorry BUDISMYBUDDY, dunno! I'm sure one of these kind fold will answer for you...is that not in the Civolepedia (spelt wrong, I know!)?

A city cannot grow in population while it's producing a settler.

Sounds like the game is therefore shifting your city to production emphasis: that's why doing it manually has no additional production effect.

Honestly I haven't noticed the auto-shift in city output, since I have the habit of switching when making a settler, and I'm already managing the citizens.

Re: Spain's public denunciation of an unmet player: somebody angered Spain, probably by attacking a city-state, another player, or Spain itself. Sometimes it takes even less, like when a country denounces you before declaring war, and you don't know why. But there's a reason ... the important thing for YOU to know here, is the PUBLIC part -- if other civilizations hear Spain, and respect Spain more than the denounced civ, their opinions will be affected. The hardest part of this to ignore is "chain denunciations" wherein a civ denounces you, and everyone that likes that civ more than you joins in and denounces too. Or declares war, or won't trade ...

Thanks Espart....but you'll never guess what? Since I made the post a couple of hours ago (seems like a couple of hours, but I'm in civ-time, so it was probably a lot longer :)) I've found out for myself what it's all about - America has publicly denounced ME - pffft! What's that all about, I ain't done nothing to them!! Maybe they don't like my expansion, my new city might have been a bit too close. The funny thing is, even tho it's only a game, it really got my back up, and I was like "how dare you do that to me? The mighty English - that's it America, you is going doooown!!!!"

Heh ... you'll get a feel for why they denounce, and whether they're just doing it because their buddy denounced. Civs will ask other civs to denounce in support.

But I swear Shaka Zulu, for example, denounces me just because he's about to attack. What "offends" him is that I look weak enough to take out. There's a lesson for you in this: the robot civs prefer you denounce your target first, and attacking somebody that you've declared friends with really offends them.

If you have a mod like InfoAddict (?) -- not precisely sure what's giving me the info, to be honest -- you can actually see the robots' good/bad opinion triggers in a list. Not really cheating, since none of the info is truly hidden from your comp, if I understand.

Doesn't surplus food still get converted to production on a 2 for 1 basis when building Settlers? That could be from where your phantom production comes.
