Hi all,

After many games on standard/standard settings, I tired to spend around 3 to 5 hours for a games (also, really tired due to lack of sleep, but it's a detail :mischief:).

I wonder if I still improve myself in Civ 5 with speeder games.

What is the correct settings in quick speed to have the same experience than standard ?
I ask for correct size map, number of AI and CS.

Thanks for your answers.

There's no "correct" setting for quick speed.. it's a matter of opinion and gameplay style really.

All I know is that Quick Speed is equliivent of 67% of everything (i.e 67% of Faith required for a Prophet).

You will NOT have the same experience on standard speed than on the quick, that's a fact.

For example, on Quick, on say Warlord, I am able to get Shrine, Monument or either built before Great Library is available. while on Standard I often don't have enough time.

The poster above me is correct in saying you won't have the same experience, but that doesn't mean it's a bad experience.

Here's a few things that change:

UNITS and WARFARE:
Individual units are, in a sense, less powerful on offense because technology advances quicker, which means you have to be ready to bring units back to your borders to upgrade them. This makes wars, especially long-distance wars, much more difficult. So playing defensively is perhaps even easier in Quick more. Having said all that, it's much faster to pump out units, which is a plus. (And in slower modes, units become very important because they take so long to build. If you kill three enemy units, it will take a while for your opponent to replace those. And you stay at the same tech for a lot longer.)

GAME FINISHES:
Yes everything rushes by quicker, and some parts of that are less fun, but it means you are more likely to make it to game-end without getting bored. I'm at 1000+ hours on this game, and I rarely take games past Astronomy anymore. But since I've switched to play Quick games, I'm more likely to push deeper into the tree and get finishes. I got a finish with Poland just the other day. My first finish in a month or so.

Small maps, usually.
