Quirks and Amusements

In my current game as the celts i got two leaders from my gallic swordsman. Northing to special exept this occured in the industrial age ageinst red-lined rifleman where some cavalry failed before. I named them Asterix and Obelix and after one or two more victorys they a now invited to my capitol to tell me their great tales personally :)
Never underestimate the power of some gallic brewmaster ;)

I think I'm going to do the first warrior thing too, though it might be too late with my current game. I like it though.

I also rename any elites that win GLs - forgot that part - and also rename my Armies (1st Mechanized, Home Guard) that sort of thing.

This is great. I am surprised at how many of us do this stuff. I kind of thought I was the only one.

I do the "first warrior" as well, if he manages to survive the expansion & sight seeing of the early game he gets retired to the capital for a life wine & wenches.

Wine... assuming that you've hooked it up? Or would he settle for spices or silks?

I always rename any elite that spawns a great leader, they don' get much special treatment though, i still use them in the frontlines :D

THANK YOU!!! READING THIS HAS MY SELF-ESTEEM SOARING!!

After years & years of endless searching and self-doubt, you have provided the proof that I have long been seeking. Now while your comments may not totally debunk the theory that I’m not quite “normal”, they DO at the very least clearly prove that
I’m not “alone” in my thinking!!!

Like Raijer I’ve too have been known to reforest opens areas. Maybe more trees’ll help with the greenhouse. I’ll also forest along border areas to act as a buffer, slowing down any advance. I saved many cities from capture thanks to my “wooden shield”.

And Like SamPellegrino, I’ve done the “maginot line thing”. And the West Wall, the Atlantic Wall, the Iron Curtain, … and so on …

And Yes, of course I’ve done the “honor guard” thing. I’ve had ARMIES that were Honorary Guards, Color Guards, and I think every possible combo of the words Palace, Royal, & Elite. I once had this crummy Army full of lowly regulars. They weren’t even good enough to act as a Rear Guard. They ended up as my Reserve National Guard.
Numerous “Shock” armies along with the various Pillagers, Marauders, and the like, were mixed in with the almost countless “numbered” armies. (Like the legendary
Soviet 5th Guards Tank Army) Come to think of it, “On Guard” was the battle cry of my Persian National Elite Fencing Troop. (Swords, of course!)

Generally I don't rename elite units unless they've done something very special. The Saviours Of Smolensk and Hamberg's Heros are a couple examples. It indeed takes numerous acts of great courage to be included in with the handful of units which have achieved that lofty height which I call the UUUUU (The 5 U's) This being the: Unified Un-upgradable Useless Unique Units!!

I always name Armies. Sometimes something as silly as Tiberius' Thrashers and sometimes after animals like The Vicious Wildcats. Occasionally I just name them 1st Infantry Battalion, 3rd Cavalry Corps. :tank:

Also, I like naming my cities names like "Cleopatrasaloser" or "Igottheironfirst" for fun when I'm bored.
