R.E.D. modpack

I'm waiting for more units before making a new update.

ATM there is the AMX-30 Roland (Mobile SAM), and hopefully a few modern fighters/bombers will be available soon.

By any chance, is there a way to swap out the models for certain units? Meaning when a certain age is hit, an aesthetic change to swap out WWII-era carriers for supercarriers, etc? Like how civilian transports change with the era. Bit disconcerting to see WWII-age tech in the future, haha.

Also, do you intend to put in civilization-specific helicopters?

Love this mod, BTW.

Since Gedemon hasn't deigned to answer... It's do-able, but AFAIK it's not going to happen in R.E.D. Modpack (though maybe in the extended R.E.D. Modpack that Gedemon has mused about on several occasions--but I'm pretty it's not forthcoming anytime soon).

As has been said several times, Gedemon doesn't actually make any of the units. If you watch the Units subforum, you'll see what may end up in the next version of R.E.D. Modpack. As far as helicopters, there's a thread here that discusses the trials and tribulations of some recent (so far unsuccessful) attempts to build a helicopter template. Other than that, AFAIK the only gunship variations available at the moment are the reskins I made.

Hey there Gedemon.

As you already know, I CANNOT play CIV without the RED modpack. The idea of seeing nations such as SONGHAI or THE INCAS depicted as a bunch of white Europeans totally destroy the immersion.

Hence, do you have any plans on doing a rushed RED Modpack as soon as BRAVE NEW WORLD comes out? If so, how long after launch do you think this will be added?

a BNW version is planned, yes.

Ah, damn.

Ah, didn't know there was that helicopter issue - I did know about the unit subforum though, and I've always got my eye on that.

Thanks for the clarification, though!

There will be an update *soon*, maybe next weekend.

And thanks to snafusmith (and the other great 3D guru working here), there will be helicopters :woohoo:

I just tried this for the first time... I love it. Excellent work folks! :goodjob:

Another mod I can't play without.

I was wondering if it would be an idea to give certain civs that don't have early ethnic units yet some skins from other civs. I'm thinking polynisia and siam for example. Ofcourse ethnic units would be prefered but I'd rather see Siam with Chinese/Indian longswordmen than Western European longswordmen. Or Polynesia that borrows skins from a native american etc. I'm mostly talking about Longswordmen Knights and Pikeman because these three look so heavely Western European, I just dislike that so much... maybe units like lancers and swordsman too but mostly those three are a pain in ass for me..

I honoustly don't know how much work this would be, but it's an awesome mod and one, together with cultural linked borders (didn't you make that one too? :) ) and historical religions, I can't play without!

I have added in previous version the ability to give ethnic units to City-States, this have been extended to major civilizations in my development version.

without going into technical details, here is how it works globally:

The base game use continental art style for units variation (but the mechanism is only used for the settler models), this mod extend that mechanism by adding a specific art style for each civilization.

But I've also kept the base styles, and use it with City-States. If you've discovered Asiatic CS on your games with current version of the mod, you may have noted that the CS units are from Asian civilizations (mainly China).

In my development version, like for Asian CS, I've added an art style set for African CS, South-American CS, Mediterranean CS, North-American (native) CS and Middle-East CS.

Now it's coded to do following things in order:

- create "continental" art style sets
- apply the sets to CS and to major civilization based on their continent (or sub-continent).

At this point all major civilizations have a set of continental units. For example, Siam will have the same set of units as an Asiatic CS.

Then the setup continue like this:

- create art style sets for major civilization based on accurate available units for that civilization.
- apply the sets and replace the "continental" model by the accurate model if it's available.

It had taken me some time to code that, but it's really worth it ;)

a BNW version is planned, yes.

Hi, I finally got around to installing the Mac version of Civ 5 and G&K on a MacBook Pro.

Can you say if the planned BNW version of the mod be compatible on Mac?

Also, to be sure, am I correct that the current version will not work on Mac?

(note: I'm aware the Mac port doesn't officially support adding mods, though it can be made to work by editing a menu file and manually installing the mods, etc.)

I installed your current R.E.D. mods using the Mac workaround, but the game always crashes when the map initially loads after starting a new game.

Anyway, I really like your mod. You deserve a ton of credit and thanks.

AFAIK The mod should work on Mac, maybe another Mac user could confirm that...

And here is the new update, uploaded on CFC (will be on Steam later)

It's a modern update, you can thank Snafusmith for most units :)

v.26 (May 12, 2013):

- Add to the existing continental artstyle (used by City States, and as a base for major civilization) some unit's models from nations of same continent
- Add a set of units for Poland (anticipating BNW, but it will also work with a custom civilization like this one: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=95115521 )
- Add Snafusmith's Eurofighter for Austria, Germany, Rome (Italy), Spain, England (U.K.)
- Add Snafusmith's AMX-30 Roland (mobile SAM) for France, Spain, Babylon (Iraq), Arabia
- Add Snafusmith's BMP-2 (mechanized infantry) for Russia, India, Babylon (Iraq), Persia (Iran), Carthage (Algeria), Ethiopia (desert team color, as Sudan), China (team color, as Type 86), Siam (TC), Mongolia (TC), Middle East and African CS (desert TC)
- Add Snafusmith's Mi-8 (helicopter gunships) for Ethiopia, Egypt, India, Babylon (Irak), Aztec (Mexico), Poland, Russia, Algeria (desert team color), China (team color), Huns (hungary, TC), Persia (Iran, desert TC), Songhai (Mali, desert TC), Mongole (TC), Inca (Peru, TC)

- Set Snafusmith's Challenger II (modern armor) Desert Camo for Arabia (Oman)

- Add WWII Poland's unit : Infantry, tank 10TP, Albatros_D.III, Grom Class destroyer, Orzel Class submarine, Paratrooper, Bomber PZL P.37, Fighter PZL P.50, WWI tank Renault FT-17
- Set T-72 and BMP-2 (generic color) for Poland
- Add Bernie14's Longswordsman for Poland
- Add JTitan's Garamantes spearman for Garama City-States (from YnAEMP CS mods)

And R.E.D. Xtreme (v.26) also available, remember to install it after R.E.D. Modpack to keep the correct formations.

Awesome work! I really felt like the modern era units needed some love in the mod.

It'd be awesome to see some European-themed Mechanized Infantries (e.g. Warrior IFV - England/Celts, Boxer - Germany/Netherlands, VBCI - France, CV90 - Sweden etc), European/African/Asian-themed Marines and AA vehicles (e.g. Flakpanzer Gepard - Germany) for the next release.

Yes, it does work on Macs...you'll have to hack Civ so you get the "Mods" menu, and there are instructions elsewhere on here on how to do that...(It's been so long, I've forgotten).

And, the mods menu can be painfully slow at times to load, but unless Civ crashes, just wait it out.

Thanks for confirming that you got it to work on a Mac (btw for sake of reference the instructions for Mac/Mods are here; I was able to get past all that with little problem.)

Unfortunately game still crashes at the initial loading screen every time I try to use the R.E.D. mod, not sure why. Hopefully I'll get it to work somehow.

Love the update :D just out of curiosity since my current game doesn't have the civ.. Is Polynesia appointed a certain continent for ethnic units?

For some reason, the Russian Mi-8 isn't appearing in game for me, its just the default helicopter. I fully removed v.25 to install v.26, Ran 3 tests with no other mods running at all. Washington AH-64 worked fine, Babylon Mi-8 worked fine, but Russia's Mi-8 didn't? The mechanized infantry update worked fine for Russia though, so its just the helicopter. Any tips?
