Ok, so let's start a brillant carreer as a CiV modder!

While I was trying to guess the last two civs of Brave New World, I found myself doing a lot of research about Native American Civs. As I really enjoyed this, I've started to consider going further and create my own Native American Civs. For the moment I have ideas for 4 civs, already posted on other threads: The Ojibwe, The Pueblo, The Caddo and The Sioux.

But more important: I've already done a lot of work for The Ojibwe! Ok so this is my very first civ and things are still in progress but it starts to look good.

Overall:
Spoiler :

The Ojibwe
Also known as the Chippewa.”The Ojibwe were the largest and most powerful Great Lakes tribe; perhaps the most powerful east of the Mississippi; and quite possibly the most powerful in North America."[/I]

Leader: Kechewaishke
Kechewaishke was one of the leader of the Ojibwe nation for nearly a half-century until his death in 1855. He resisted the efforts of the United States to remove the Chippewa.

Capital: Mooniyang (Montreal area)
In the Seven Fires Prophecy, Mooniyang is refered as the "First Stopping Place" of the Anishinaabe, the ancestors of the Ojibwe.

UA: Visions of the Turtle Island
Units can sail on coastal tiles and lakes from the start. Embarked units remain invisible for other civilizations unless they have a unit directly near yours.
Turtle Island designates the North American continent in the Anishinaabe mythology. This UA reflects the importance of birch bark canoes in the Ojibwe way of life.

UI: Maple Syrup Camp
Can be built on forest tiles.
+2:c5food:
+1:c5gold:

UU: Ogichidaa (Replaces Swordman)
75 :c5production:
2 :c5moves:
14 :c5strength:
Does not require iron.
+20% :c5strength: in a radius of four tiles around your cities.
“Ogichidaa” is the Ojibwe word for warrior and means “the one who stands as a barrier between bad things and the people".

The civ icon is the first thing i've done with GIMP and needs some tweaking. The leader icon is ... difficult to do!

For my first custom civ, i'm trying to do everything by myself from the code (almost completed, but I don't think it's optimal) to the art (getting better every day), including importing a brand new unit (from Total war:mischief:). All your advice for improving my skills are welcome! (And of course what do you think of the overall civ:confused:).

Love the Icon and Leader Screen. Maple Syrup Camp might cause problems; I've heard that UI tend to be glitchy. I'm a little concerned that the Ogichidaa is a bit too similar to the Mohawk Warrior (Iron-less Swordman with conditional combat bonus), though 'ogichidaa' is a good choice for a UU, actual effects notwithstanding. The UA is a bit weak, I think. Coastal / Lake embarking is a weaker version of the Polynesia UA and I'm no sure how useful the being hidden effect is going to be and if it'll be enough to compensate for having a weaker Polynesian UA. Now that I think about it, Birchbark Canoes could be a good UU as well, a workboat with some potent Lake bonuses (something that rivals the Aztec's Floating Gardens).

I've been brainstorming some Native American Civs as well. For what it's worth, here's my version of the Ojibwe, which I combined with the Potawatomi and the Odawa to make the Three Fires Confederacy (Niswi-mishkodewin) Civilization. They're one of the newer ones on my list, so I don't have everything in mind for them yet. It has a BNW focus, so it hasn't been a high priority yet.

Pontiac(?) of the Three Fires Confederacy / Niswi-mishkodewin
Capital: Michilimackinac
Unique Ability: The Great Medicine Society — Great Works and Theming bonuses provide +1 :c5food: and +1 :c5faith:.
Unique Building: Midewigaan (one of the buildings that can hold Great Works) — Units trained in this City gain the Medic promotion if the building maintains a Theming bonus.
Unique Unit: Hadn't decided on this one yet. I had been mulling over the idea of Odawa Traders (Caravan or Cargo Ship), but didn't have details on what they'd do differently. I had also been looking into something from the Potawatomi, since UA and UB lean toward the Ojibwe and the Leader is Odawa. Would be nice to give all three some representation here.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to your version of things.

Thanks for your comments.

Unfortunately. The farm crash bug is forcing me to use the lumbermill graphics for the moment. Let's hope a fix after BNW.

Actually, since the Iroquois and the Ojibwe were ennemies in the roughly same region I had in mind to put them in a kind of competition. The Iroquois are using forests for heavy production? I give a food bonus on forests to the Ojibwe. The mohawk warrior is an offensive unit very strong in the said forests? Let's give a defensive bonus to the Ojibwe (and fortunately it's historically accurate).

For the weakness of the UA, yeah you're right. Tests showed me that invisibility is not enough for succeeding at sneaky attacks from the sea. It definitely needs something else, but it shouldn't be similar to already used traits. At the moment I'm thinking of giving them a healing when embarking; this way you can perform back and forth operations when attacking from the sea (seems to be how the Ojibwe were operating too).

Interesting. It's true that Pontiac makes a good leader... And as you noted, it's hard to completely separate Ojibwe, Odawa and Potawatomi people.

That's fair. It's a similar line of thought to what I'm planning for the Wendat Confederacy (the Huron). Coincidentally, I had been planning on giving them a 'Turtle Island' UA too, though theirs was focused on a defense bonus to cities built on the same continent as their capital. Come to think of it, maybe a defense bonus to their first four cities would be better. Most of the time you can cram a lot of cities on one continent, especially since people like to play on Pangaea.

For the new UA you're considering, I'm assuming you mean that they get healed when they embark, not that they can heal while embarked. How much would they heal? Being embarked puts them in a vulnerable position, so the heal would need to compensate. As long as it does, I like it.
