Rallying call for all interested: Colonisation of the Moon mod!

carbon filament is the thing that glows when you pass a current over it, thus light, i agree palladium to tungsten, tungsten is better for use as kinetic energy indirect fire weapon (artillery)

carbon filament: http://www.bulbmuseum.net/bulbs/images/bthcarbon2.JPG
rods from god made of tungsten: http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/005/700oklkt.asp

I think the fact that it's from a museum says something. :)

Nowadays I'm nearly 100% sure most are made from a moly coil. At least that's what our company makes.

And tungsten is used in a ton of military apps so I think we should switch out Palladium. Vote?

well that IS what the original light bulb was, of course things are more advanced today, i was merely pointing out the confusion of filaments and nanotubes smartguy

I vote to switch palladium to tungsten, do we even need to redo the graphics?

Hey Everybody working on this project.
I am matthewv's brother that he talks about.
I just wanted to say that you guys are all doing a great job on this mod.
I have done a bit of playtesting, and I just wanted to point out a few things that should be considered before releasing a playable version to the public:

1. All the resources seem to give a +1 health bonus. (none give a happiness bonus)
2. When you build an improvement on a resource, such as a helium plant on He3, it does not supply you with the resource in your cities. (you don't get the health bonus you are supposed to get).
3. The ai doesn't seem to know what to do with the terrain improvements, because if I set my engineer on automate, all he will do is build track. He won't build any helium plants or extractors or anything like that.

I also have a suggestion about graphics:
Should the radio car and laser tanks (or whatever they,re called) maybe reflect the graphics of the tank and modern armour for now until you get around to doing new graphics?

Also, since there isn't any food on the moon, should the production be given a boost, maybe through a technology that becomes available with the earth cutoff.

I know you guys are busy with this, and you don't have to do anything with what I've said, but I just wanted to let you know what might need a little work yet.

Thanks for doing such a great job with this mod, and keep up the good work.
I can't wait to play a good working version with no bugs.

-Robert

My recollection was that it wasn't so much an engineering improvement on tungsten, but rather an economic improvement, that lead to its obsolesence.

Either way, LED lighting is the way of the future.

I stand corrected. Smartguy eh?

It's indeed a long list in the Bible. Simply posted comments on what I thought was in.

Funny.. He never mentioned you 8)

*ducks*

no smartguy was a reference to woodelf, who correcte me on what is actually in bulbs today, its a common mistake, though anyways its funny taht most of your suggestions mirrored mine earlier, i wasnt the only one who thought nutrients were iffy on teh moon, good idea that it may be 'discovered' in an algae farm though i hadnt thought of that bravo

@robby, hehe yeah he talks abotu you ALL the time, he did mention he used your comp for playtesting though, i agree with your suggestions, AI doesnt get improvements and they dont confer resources those are issues we have right now

Don't get smart about LEDs! Luckily part of our company is working on them.

Back to the game...I did have an LED button originally, but didn't know where to put into the tech tree. Pretty too. ;)

No prob. ;)
Yeah, just readed that post you linked to, and it's indeed funny.
Truth to tell, I didn't check on carbon filaments, just assumed it would have something to do with nano because nanotubes translate more or less to "filamented" in my language. (or at least another word for "tubes")

1 - yeah, needs work. You volunteering? :p Seriously waterice, oxygen, ect should make you damned happy!

2 - The version of XMLs I just sent out today at least fixed the Helium3 part. When I built a road and connected it to the city I did get the message.

3 - Uh, oh. I hope that's linked to number 2. I tried to tie the resources into the improvements. It should help the AI. Are you using the version from today?

The food boost will come with Glass Working, Water Reclamation, Hydroponics, and some other techs.

Please keep the feedback coming. An outside source is helpful. :D

yeah thats the problem with modern english, it spawns all these highly technical terms that other languages cant keep up with so just end up using the english term or some poor translation, well luckily im a native english speaker (hehe) so i dont have to worry (arrogant americans) keep the tips coming, thats how i entered this mod, just had a list of thoughts and next thing i knew i was at 100 posts and creating art. glad the lurkers are joining in

 Sorry, it's the one subject I better know something about. :)

I think JBG needs to make a new bible!

Indeed. We need more lurker participation. This is a large undertaking and even though the five of us look competent  the more help the merrier. I know that I get tunnel vision and an outside set of eyes is super helpful.

No, I was playing yesterdays version. Sorry for pointing out stuff that you already fixed. Sorry, but I don't think I can help you out in creating this mod since I don't know anything about Python or XML.

Don't be sorry. I only noticed it today. It's a big problem.

You don't need to know either of those to help us out. You could run through the list of resources and post what you think the effect should be. Or maybe you've an idea of a building that can be triggered from getting a resource. Or a unit. Like I said, the more ideas the merrier. We can't see it all. ;)

Do we have a plan now? Should we list some things that need doing?

Things I can think of:

1 - religions? what to do with them?
2 - Great People
3 - The cut off from Earth. Python it? Kill research until that time?
4 - I know there's a lot out there.....

I'm going to play through the 1st era tonight and see what needs doing.

Frankly, I don't understand why you would want to kill research until cut off. Whatever base is established, a research department will about always be part of it. Astronomic observatories, metallurgic labs, Applied physics labs, senologic surveys... it's all science.

Religions... replacing it by ideology is about out. The extended civic table covers the obvious candidates already, unless you do a sort of increased effect when a certain civic matches a certain ideology. Capitalism as ideology in a civ doing Free Market for instance.

I have almost completed a complete game! notes: its near impossible to kill HVY laser infantry fortified in a city engineers do not automate properly, track and sometimes biodome

and the dumb AI builds tons of def turrets they only have a power of 2!! marines own them not to mention hvy las infantry

The cutoff was an attempt to limit how soon Helium3 Plants became obsolete. I can always push Glass Working back a bit or increase the cost. Yeah, research will be important, but I think the getting the energy is a focus as well.

Religions were hard since obviously they already exist. Not sure how to do this. Keep the critiques coming!
