So I generally like 1 CC for the lack of work managing things. I also have a fondness for always war and have combined the two in the past. Let’s see how it goes with CivV. I will play as Ramses the builder as I will need to do a lot of wonder builds. I will play on an Archipelago map. The strategy is to cocoon and build up a tech lead and then head out and wipe out the opponents. I tried this on emperor and it was difficult but doable and fun right up till the end as my army almost got slaughtered taking the last capital. I will give it a try on Immortal.

Money is the biggest problem in this game and I will not be buying influence. You end up with every CS at war with YOU.

I played a few to make sure I was isolated and got a good start. I will proceed from this one. Got the Great Library-> civil service sling shot on turn 47.

Goal is to head up the education path and do few scientist slingshots. I will not be building a military for many years as you just don’t generate the $$ in 1CC to upgrade. So it is minimal defense and tech.

Time flies and you will see that it is Ramasses the Great is in the Industrial era in 1680 AD and along the way has been a prolific builder of monuments. A few key points to note.

1) We are doing very well on culture and science.
2) We are currently losing $$. We must have a big army of something right? See below.
3) We have NO strategic resources!!

Here is a summary of our diplomatic, military and economic state. Note we are somewhat cranky on the diplomatic front. There is no AW check in the set up like in civ 4 but the rule is declare immediately at 1st contact and no peace ever. The biggest concern is the money. Note our army consists of 1 caravel and 1 cannon yet we are spending 11 gpt on people. Without trade routes and extra cities to spam trading posts it is hard to keep above water on $$ in a 1CC.

We have no resources on an Archi map. The plan is to beeline to Electricity for Destroyers (No resource required) to get up a navy and then to…. Mechs, which are only 2 techs from Electricity.

We are a Socially advanced people. Of note we have taken the Science/Growth policies. We have a 2 Tech Scientific Revolution available for some slingshoting and we are generating enough culture to get down the Honor path in time for war.

looks interesting never thought of an aw game limiting yourself to only one city.

OK moving right along to more interesting times in 1790 we complete the Taj Mahal and start a 22 turn golden age. That helps

But what helps even more is the 2 scientists and the scientific revolution allowing me to jump all the way through to the modern era.

Before the great leap forward we know not even steam power.

After I have just 1 word-plastics.

Now why did I jump to plastics when I could have jumped through to electronics and Mechanized infantry? Because plastics gives a science doubling research lab and it will take me many turns to build up a navy of destroyers so no need for the Mech tech yet. The last 2 buildings I will build are a stock exchange and a research lab and then its all military.

I built some destroyers and went out exploring and found my targets. I then switched to building Mechanized Infantry and am now ready for the fun to begin. Here is my little flotilla of 4 Mechs, a general, 4 destroyers and a sub.

I have marked all the Capitals on the map. It is the early 1930’s and Germany is highly militarized. We've seen that movie before. I speak to my military advisor Sgt. O’Neill and he tells me “I’ve got a bad feeling about this one Bob”.

We all gotta die sometime O’Neill. On to Germany. Always hit the biggest and baddest guys first or they just get bigger and badder.

Notice I brought no arty as destroyers do the job just fine. As you will see below. Notice further that while Germany has some infantry running around, most of those “troops” that O’Neill was afraid of are clowns dressed up in medieval outfits for some Renaissance fair reenactment. They do quite poorly against my mechanized infantry and we have taken our first capital.

Nice game! This variant must be very difficult on immortal.

Mark, (if you aren't doing this already) you can pillage improvements in neutral territory too. Can provide a nice economic boost and besides you won't need the improvements since it's 1CC.
