Random-01: The Wheels Come Off

Maybe he didn't know it ;)

I'd wait for the next 24. If no news from tycoonist, it's a got it for saturday morning.

Got it!

Hope to see tycoonist back someday though, otherwise you'll have to advertise the game once again azaris ;)

Some basic ideas about what's next, aside from what has already been said by njorls and regarding the remaining cities ?

What next=Who do we hurt next?

I think that we should attack Wang Kon with an intent of hurting his tech rate as much as possible, while preparing to annex France. We've got to keep pushing on with the offensive now, before we find ourselves attacking massed infantry with cavalry or SAMs with gunships.

I'm getting used to interrupting turns for group discussion :)

Once again, the curse stroke me.

At first things went well.

Revolted and razed Grodium with only one mace lost (and one other winning @22% odds - sometimes the sun shines on the mighty) :

Sent troops progressing towards Bactra.
The Great General next to Visigoth was merged as Mil Instructor into it.

I dispatched espionnage points between Louis and Wang (in equal parts).

Ergili has been captured by the French and it was starting to become cheesy.

Darius has revolted to Free Religion, making me wonder about the AI ability to prioritize stuff :crazyeye:

Religious leader vote went to noone, I abstained as usual.

And here it is, between 328 and 329, just before my attack (and further razing) of Bactra, Darius became vassal to Louis

Group discussion requested then.
Either we go on with this war, even if it makes us attack the frog-eating nation before we would have liked to, or we build up, regroup and attack a few turns later.

Well, we couldn't afford to DoW our friend, but he is no friend any longer

As suggested by our fearless leader, I switched to Confu to get on the current mighty side of the world - Wang & Augustus. It has changed a little bit the diplo, getting Cautious with Wang and Annoyed with Louis. Pacal, Augustus and Darius haven't changed a lot, annoyed for the first one, furious for the latter two.

I decided to tech more intensively, and managed, in 10 turns, to more than double our tech rate ;)

Some landmarks:

Inherited turn:
Changed Esp Pts distribution - Louis 2, Wang 1, everyone else 0
Move the army back to Persepolis
Switch to Confu
Change army builds into eco/research ones

IBT
Louis and Darius DoW Augustus

330
FP in Athens - set research to 50% with sereval loss, going on our war deeds

IBT
Persian spies destroy the forge in Persepolis
Our stationned spy is captured in Magyar

332
HE in Visigoth, start building spies here
Wang has Communism, still he is backwards militarly. Too bad we have no border with him - Louis has to go down
Angora founded in the ruins near Athens

333
PP - Rep Parts
This is a major boost, making our deficit more manageable (-11 gpt, with around 350 gold cash)

IBT
Darius asks for Nationalism, Louis asks for Wine :nono:

338
Our Esp Pts investment shows us that Wang researches Steel (19 turns to go) and Louis is on Military Tradition (4 turns to go, still he has no Gunpowder)

339
We are 20 millions and, for the first time, best in score :woohoo:

IBT
Louis cancels clam for 14Gpt
Wang asks for Military Tradition in exchange for Education
Still, I sign OB with him.

340
Settle two more deals.
In a (vain?) effort to get Augustus to better than furious, I send him corn, pig and clam for 12 Gpt.
Louis signs a deal for our wine in exchange of 18 Gpt.

Here is the state of our army in Persepolis:

Rep Parts are 3 turns away. Rifling should tech well too.
We can switch back to military builds in our prod cities and wait for Rifles, or continue improving our economy as everyone is pretty far away from the Rifles - Wang ignored it completely and Louis starts Mil Trad before GPowder.

The latter should be our target very very soon... He is also on our way to Wang, so two reasons instead of one :)

Handing back the game.

Stuge, are you up?

I guess so. Any thoughts on when to pounce on Louis?

I think the best plan is to tech to Rifling while strengthening our economy and gathering EPs against France, then shut down research and upgrade the whole shebang to cavalry and DoW on Louis.

EDIT: Use two stacks, bigger one goes through Persia, smaller one takes Louis' cities near the hub of the wheel.

Sorry for the delay. The save's here.

The set was pretty uneventful, until Louis declared war on the sixth turn. Builds have been a mixture of cuirassiers, spies and economic stuff. Rifling is six turns away. Once we get it, we may want to trade military science to Wang, 'cos he's got a big pile of gold lying around that we could use. Louis can build muskets and cuirassiers now.

Regarding the war, I smacked a bunch of French knights around Persepolis but lost a couple of cuirassiers at good odds. I marched on Bactra and, since it was size seven, decided to keep it. There have been no other offenses by us due to a punishing lack of spies up north.

There are a couple of spies hanging around on the French border in the middle of the map. A second front can be opened there once we have enough cavalry rallied in Ghuzz. I may have left some go-tos on, the units are heading for Persepolis or Ghuzz.

We got a GE from Constantinopole and he's sleepimg there now. I think we should use him to rush the West Point in Visigoth.

Turn 0: Some happiness management.

civ4screenshot0098za9.jpg

Turn 1: Cleared out Wang's cash reserves. Traded furry happiness from Pacal.

Turn 3: Ergili is not in the best possible place but it is the Islamic holy city so I keep it just in case.

Turn 5: Rifling complete, turn off research for a while to make loads of cavalry.

civ4screenshot0103dx6.jpg

Turn 7: AP votes to stop war against Augustus.

Turn 9: Sardis razed without losses.

IBT: A bullspit round of combat sees an entire cavalry stack wiped out and Bactra taken with a musketman vs. musketman. I take it back with cavalry though.

civ4screenshot0104od0.jpg

Turn 10: Hmmm. Louis has a stack. Without siege this is going to require some cunning.

Turn 11: Anasazi revolted and taken without losses. Kept. I send a GG to Visigoth. I kill a few of Louis units but lack of riflemen means Ergilli has to abandoned.

IBT: Cao Cao dies a heroic death and so does the rest of our stack.

Turn 12: Ergili falls. I can't really counterattack since that will leave my cavalry out in the open, after which Louis will kill them with his stack. For some reason Louis isn't getting any WW either despite the fact that many of his units dies on our territory, we have 7 x  in some places and Louis has 0 x  everywhere. Stupid cheating Monarch AI.

Turn 14: Dariush Kabir taken and kept.

IBT: Louis' stack assaults Persepolis but changes its mind after the first few cuirassiers are killed without losses.

civ4screenshot0105no9.jpg

Turn 15: Persepolis will probably fall despite the units I managed to gather there. To that end, we might consider peace with France for Louis gold and then to regroup and try again in a while. We really want to take out Wang, he's running away with the techs. We have still OB with Augustus, permitting a campaign against Korea, but of course having Louis and Darius on our backyard ready to dogpile makes things slightly awkward.

Now I will make like Mansa Musa and eat some pizza. :) I believe njorls is up.

I hope it was good :p

I would sign peace with Louis before Persepolis falls to him. I don't know (and can't check) if he is in the mood to sign it now.
Ten turns of breathe would help us greatly to regroup.

I made peace with Louis

Ceaser canceled a bunch of deals

Civ4ScreenShot0155.jpg

I made a trade after whipping the current monastaries

Civ4ScreenShot0157.jpg

I was afraid Pacal would demand it so I got what I could for it.

Some AP stuff

Civ4ScreenShot0159.jpg

Research was education, lib. Couldn't trade for either, either we had nothing to trade or noone liked us enough. Research is set to Communism, we need state property. I changed to Free Religion.

We should have enough units to defend against Louis's stack near Perseopolis.

There's been a lot of sabotage so I evened out espionage to try and prevent it. Think it might be Darius.

*edit*: Globe Theater finished in Perseoplois

It's a bit troublesome. Our only friend is the civ we'd most like to kill, and everyone else hates us. Can we try and appease Augustus somehow? Maybe get him or Louis to declare on Wang? Failing that I guess we regroup and DoW on Louis ASAP. It's going to get tougher from here on as the industrial and modern age stacks start appearing and we have no siege to curb them.

Got it.
I'll try to make it out tomorrow, friday at the last.

Going to do regrouping stuff near Louis and try to make the diplo incident between Louis and Wang. We should have a tech on hand to make it work. Once Louis SoD is away, we can get to his core cities.

I'm having some PC troubles - my dvd player doesn't work any longer and no way to play without.

I'll have to ask for a skip, well at least until monday
Sorry guys.
Azaris, can we switch so that we have the game going ?

I can play while you get that player working.

It looks like we'll have to start the rumble ourselves. Nobody is willing to go to war. That kinda sucks, 'cos Louis and his puppy are sporting rifles and cavalry now.

The switch to state property brought about 100 beakers and 30 gpt, not too bad. Research is set to steam power. We're going to need infantry and rails for future wars. On the subject of technology, Wang is depressingly advanced.

We have no other option but to start the war soon. I think we have enough units outside Persepolis to destroy the French SoD in Ergil. Although I doubt that our production can cope with the losses we'll take without siege weapons. I may have favoured economic buildings unwisely. Perhaps we should go for all-out mobilization, i.e. no city builds anything else than spies and cavalry.

Our armed forces:

And where they get us:

The save. I wonder what are the chances of winning 50 coinflip battles in a row.
