Random-01: The Wheels Come Off

some dot mapping now i guess and then tycoonist will play a couple of more turns?
and I have to agree that the land is quite rubbish.

We don't have to decide where all our cities should go, just where the next one should go.

We won't know anything else about where to found until IW is in in 28 turns.

I like to get tactical resources with my 2nd city so I would go either for stone or horses next. Probably horses, but since we can't build chariots we'd need HBR and Archery before we could build horse archers. We could try a stone city and build GW for barb defense.

So either 1NW of stone (would need fishing)

Or 1S of horses (food poor until CS)

I like 1NW of stone the best.

I'd say forget the horse spot for now, it's pretty poor and we're still a long time away from cataphractoi. Founding 1NW of stone is a good idea since then we can squeeze in another one next to the bananas and make two cities on the only decent spot of land we have. But there could be something good in the NE, so that should be checked as well.

1NW of stone seems good to me. In that case we should research archery-> masonry. Archery just to be on the safe side. I don't like the prospect of one lousy barb archer showing up and kicking our sorry butts.

Maybe too late to ask but are we going to use Solver's patch?

ok, so here is the plan:

build 1NW of stone seems like general consensus.
set research to archery and then masonry and then IW.

i can't play tonight though. i have a giant english essay to write

just letting you all know that I will be out of town 13th-17th and I have no idea whether I will be able to access Civ so if unless I say anything else i the coming days, please swap or skip me.
but I hope Tycoonist plays his set in order for me to be able to play mine before i leave...

Now you're on a clock ;)

ok, not very much at all happened. IW was selected for research, I went with that since we have no copper and can't build chariots, so some iron nearby sure would be nice. It's still 9 turns left until we find that out.

I founded the city 1NW of stone which it seemed like everyone agreed on.
I have a second settler out as well. about to claim this site to get some gold

or perhaps it should go 1N of what it is directed to in order to claim the rice and then leave the pigs for a filler city closer to the capital that might claim some wine as well, that would make an OK city. So i think the northern plains hill that captures the rice is the better option actually.

I met some not so friendly mayans from the south, who are planning to use our blood to decorate their temples

so, scouting mostly in the south and in the northeast, the northeast is where our next city will go, I think unless you completely veto me and redirect it.
and this is what the south looks like:

and hello Alex:

well my guess is that an early rush is out unfortunately since no one really seems to be close by.

also i think there's place for a nice little fishing village east of our capital as well, netting three food resources if i remember quickly. would be nice to build that one and run some early scientists perhaps?

I think no the early rush is a pleasant turn of events. The AIs are not very good at utilizing poor land so if we play our cards right we should have a nice advantage by the time cataphracts are out.

I'll look at a dotmap when I have more time, in the meantime anyone else is welcome to do so.

I know it's way too late now, but this would be cool on a Donut map (kinda like a perfectly round Pangaea with a hollow center), possibly with a Peaks or Ocean center.

Good luck with the game! :goodjob:

Tycoonist, can you grab the game before the weekend or should I?

It would be nice if someone made a dotmat that we could discuss a bit before the next turnset. I do not have CIV acces until monday so I can't do it unfortunately.

I think we should just go 1 city at a time until all the fog is busted and Iron is revealed. Because either of those 2 could affect where subsequent cities go.

1S of the horses seems the best way to get those horses. It gives the most grassland tiles. Or there's the pig/fish/banana spot, 1N of the fish seems like the best spot.

For techs, fishing and masonry will be needed to hook up seafood and stone. And we need more workers and our cities roaded together. All that should keep the next player busy.

Busting the rest of the fog near us will be great, we can do a final dotmap when that is done.

Red dot is good, but I don't know about green and yellow. Green wastes an awful lot of tiles. We wouldn't get a food bonus from any of those lakes either.
I'd go with a city 1N of the pigs and with another one 1S of the rice.

I've got it for the weekend.

i think the placement of yellow and green is totally ok. I don't think we have to cram the cities that tight together, we are going to play an aggressive game grabbing lot's of land anyways.
