Random AI Civs feel less than random

I'm starting to get a little tired of the "random" choices of AI civs to fill out a game.

I've now been playing for several weeks, and I've probably logged about 15-18 games - all successes moving up the difficulty levels from settler to prince.

A trend has developed for me. One of my favorite map types (always small size) is "small continents," but with a caveat. Out of the 10 small conts games I've played, India has been my immediate neighbor on the smallest continent 8 times. India was present in the other 2 games as well.

Is there a way to delete a civ from the game without just choosing the civs? I'm looking to remove India from the selection pool for awhile.

You could always play as India. :P

Otherwise no. But it's just bad luck. For me it was Darius who kept popping up.

For the longest time it was Alexander, and he would keep backstabbing me. So finally, I nailed him. since no sign of him until today(about 6 games without him). Since Korea DLC, played 1st game with them, been in every game since. :lol:

Maybe I am imagining this, but it always seems like neighboring civs are not entirely random. For example, if you play Korea, your neighbors seem more likely to be Russia, China, Japan, etc.

I think there is a form of real-world geographic bias that is in the selection formula. Which Civ do you tend to play, OP?

False.

There is no such thing. Civs spawn at random.

@eazyseeker:

There's an option in advanced game options to turn off start biases. There are indeed start biases, else there wouldn't be an option to turn them off. Although the biases are not geographically based, they are based on land types. If the OP traditionally chooses civs that have similar start biases as Gandhi, then he is sure to see him pop up more.

I've hardly had any games at all that didn't have Rham, Darius and Nebudkadnezzar in it. Alexander, Wu Zetian and Catherine also pop up quite frequently, while I haven't seen Ellizabeth, Mehmet and Askia at all so far. Not once!

What about the terrain accuracy, what ever it is called. Real Start, or something? Wouldn't that make people with similar terrains spawn near you?

I've noticed that when I play certain Civs, certain other Civs are SURE to be in the game as well, for instance when I play Korea...Babylon WILL be in the game. It's like the AI puts Babylon in there to be sure I'm not the only science focused Civ in the game or something...

I'm not sure I can say I see certain Civs more than others...but it does seem like what Civ I pick affects what Civs I may potentially be up against. I have a tendancy to play a lot of different Civs though, so that may be why I see more variety in opponents, if I played the same Civ every game I might notice more of a pattern...
