I don't know about the rest of you but I certainly have been enjoying the random events, even if I seem to get them 1/2 as much as each AI civ does. When I got into the modern era I noticed many passenger jets crashing into enemy lands. It caught my attention since it seems to be a rather fun event that happens a fair deal irl. I didn't know how cool it could be until one of my jets crashed into a neighbor's land that I didn't really like.

So, one of mine crash in Arabia and Saladin, still upset about my supporting a Confucianist wedding in his lands (about 200 years ago lol) decides to deny me access to the wreckage. I tried picturing what that'd be like irl, since I was at this time in the top 3 (of 18) for military strength and Saladin was lucky if he was in the top 10.

Since relations were already shot I decided to invade him and took him over in under 10 years.

Has anyone else seen some cool random events? I've only seen a handful but some of my favorites are:

Bermuda Triangle
Religious Weddings
Plane Crashes (obviously)

I got a notice awhile ago that said "The Chinese have lost some ships and aircraft to the Bermuda Triangle" and the notifier lead me out into the middle of the ocean o.o

I was Charlemagne, sharing a continent with Kublai. He was friendly, and wanted one of my border cities, so he came at me with a stack of mixed warriors pre-Construction.

I was in a bit of trouble, I knew I could withstand the barrage by throwing in Archers, but I didn't think I could turn the tide to a favorable peace settlement for at least 30 turns.

The next turn after he declares war a Random Event occurs within my borders:

"A runner takes news of the Invasion from your borders all of the way to your capital city." Here, have a Golden Age!

Well, lets just say I went from holding on for my fingernails to wiping his flea bitten ass off of the planet (the best part is that I have both Horses on the Continent, HE HAS NO HORSES TO BUILD Keshiks! Yay!). What a happy Random Event!

:D I've seen that one happen to the AI, usually I avoid conflict in the early stages of the game because I like the modern/industrial era so I don't usually get that one :(

But awesome for you :D

In the first game I really started to play (One game before that I quit one or two turns in when I realized I had it on the wrong game speed - D'oh!) I got a random event almost right away - Truffles! +1 food and +1 commerce on that square for the rest of the game. I love that.

That's a pretty big bonus considering it's right away and it lasts the whole game :)

I also lol at the domesticated prairie dogs XD

I've been playing RFC and the most common events so far is that a guy from x civ married someone from another civ, and then theres usually some national holiday or something.

I got one involving a close election involving re-counting ballot chads and such (sound familiar?)

Result was either I proclaim that the constitution must be upheald regardless of the outcome (my party has more influence on the judicial court: courthouses +1 wealth)

or I campaign aggressively about the re-count and the people rally behind me or some such (courthouses get +3 culture)

It is relatively late in the game, but with my Sid's Sushi corporation spreading around the world, more wealth from courthouses gives me +300 gold/turn at 0% taxes.

Does a "quest" count as an event? Because I was given some quest right after I discovered Judiasm; the quest for the Holy Mountain. It said that the mountain was not on any territory I have explored yet, and that I would have to build a city next to the mountain in order for some sort of miracle to happen. It also said that I had to complete the quest by 1850 or I would fail, and that if I built 22 or 27 religious buildings in one of my cities, it could bring a revelation from God as to where the mountain was.

I failed the mission, however.

Ah, that sounds like a rough mission/quest thing, never seen anything like that yet.

How do you build 27 religious buildings in one city??? A Temple, Monastery, AND Cathedral from all seven religions is only 21. Do shrines count? Religious Wonders? This better be one helluva miracle or else I wouldn't bother.

When the window popped up for the quest it showed various religous bldg's that would have to be built, like bldgs for Christianity, Islam, Judiasm, etc...
I think wonders count. It may have been 21 I can't remember too clearly, but it was at least that...so I guess you'd have to have EVERY religion in the one city, where God I guess would tell where the Holy Mountain is. Like I said though, building the shrines wasn't required, but if you didn't build them then you would have had to build a city next to every mountain in the world in order to find the miracle.

Hmmm, it doesn't sound very "Civ" to go on a huge "quest from God" type thing O.o;

I am pretty sure the that the buildings requested is total in your empire, not one city. Still tough to get before industrial age or another civ expands onto your holy mountian, of course.

Random event: free cover promotion for all melee units (present and future).

Didn't complete a "seven stables by ren" quest.

I got one like that but instead, all my archers will get strength 1. I've had wedding gifts from Caesar, the mine collapse, a slave revolt, road floods, and one involving paying gold to support some missionaries trying to spread the faith. I paid a small amount of gold and instantly spread Judaism to all of my cities (up to 4) and Boudicia's (up to 2, I think)
