Random Events in BtS

I like them in solo games, but I so rarely finish or submit a GOTM that my opinion isn't really relevant in the scheme of things.

I'd not cry any if they were in or out personally.

Thought: If it's more the "hard core competitors" that prefer them off, could we consider making the challenger class save with them off?

:agree: I agree with this completely. Though I'm sure there are some quite strong players that won't, like Conquistador 63 who posted above.
Hey, thanks for the much undeserved compliment! But even if I like RE I have no problem whatsoever playing BOTMs with RE off. I love this game and this competition too much to complain about anything in it. Just keep the games coming! :goodjob:

Since on balance, switching random events off probably makes games slightly easier but challenger is supposed to be (hopefully, unambiguously) harder, doing that would be awkward!

@DS: May I suggest that you consider making inclusion of RE's somehwhat level dependant? The competetive players probably dominate the submissions at high levels (Emperor and above) and might appreciate reducing the random factors as much as possible in these games. Lower level players (Prince and below) and duffers like myself can enjoy RE's in those games where the competitive players will be easily able to overcome any setbacks/advantages with minimal affect on their games. Just a thought.

Thanks, good idea. I can definitely see the logic of that. I'll endeavour to add some such correlation to the games.

Does this mean that the inclusion of random events, will itself be ... uh ... a random event?

Oh sod off :p

Hmm ... you can say that here?

I was just pointing out the ironic humor in it ... the random appearance of games with random events, nothing more.

Never heard that expression before.
I think he means that he appreciates the humour.:)
:rolleyes:Or is my English not good enough?

Your Amglish is fine, just your Anglish may be lacking. Even my BRITISH was not good enough, as I had to google it to confirm my suspicions

Unless he really meant that I should remove my lawn?

Now, if he had said "Oh, sawed off!", that would have been different ... :mischief:

On second look, maybe it was more innocent ... this site made me think it was rude: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Sod Off

but this site suggests it might have been more innocent: http://www.effingpot.com/slang.shtml (the difference between "off" and "you")

Heh, browse around urbandictionary.com a while (click random a few times?) and you'll realize it's their gimmick to state things as provocative as possible. ;)

:rotfl:

How humour fails to translate across countries :)

FWIW, urban dictionary does have the literal meaning of 'sod off' correct - it does mean 'go away' but I'd say they've got the register of speech very wrong: It doesn't (at least to me) have any of the nasty or obscene connotations of some of the supposed synonyms urbandictionary quotes, but rather would be used in the context of wry humour (as, if you hadn't already guessed, was my intention in my earlier post. Sorry da_Vinci if that's not how it came across).

My first reaction, to my initial misinterpretation of your meaning, was that I had irritated you in some way ... but I should have known that it (that initial misinterpretation) was too unlike you to have been true. ;)

 Fun discussion... too many sobs worrying about sods... Oops... I bet I can't say that here...???

I like this idea. Even if the other conditions are set harder, I bet those who choose challenger would still prefer to have the random events turned off. (Having only tried challenger twice, I probably not the best judge, but...)

I like this idea too... except that I would probably put the level threshold at Immortal and above.

I don't like them.

It may be me, but they seem very unbalanced towards negative effects.

Especially when several of the good ones were removed :p.

Make challenger alywas war and disable events..
