Random events - too uncommon?

Oops, my mistake. It's +1 food.

Wow, that's actually pretty strong. May even be worth it to build all those Stables. Not sure what I would pick. It depends on the situation I guess.

quest: get that bronze mine inside portugal's borders.

result
Spoiler :
3 free macemen in the mine-square, i was attacking with maces so i guess it's the unit type you would get by drafting

i read something about a slave revolt event, dose thise mean spartacus style slave revolts, or just ppl in ur cities unhappy?

i wonder how easy it is to mod in reandom events, i comeing up with some ideas for good ones, if real slave revolts arnt in, ill defently want to add them in!

*event*
"sir, the slaves are tired of our oppresion and are demanding freedom!

choice 1, free the slaves that demand freedom*+ 3 happy in that city, but - 1 in all other cities

2, have the slaves killed and crussh the revolt! -2 pop in that city, - 1 happy in that city 10% chace ur attempt will fail, and city will revolt aginst u*open civil war* and 15 % chance ur attempt will fail, and slaves run too the hills and form a barbarian army of 3-7 units depending on that city size, citys with slave revolts that have a collousem will start with combat 1,

and ideas for changes?? y not add some units just for slaves revolts, like gladiator rebals*beast slave revolt unit* spear millita, and singers?

My question to BtS owners on these random events is how "weighted" do they seem?

To clarify, the random events in Master of Orion 2 were good fun but it soon became apparent they were EXTREMELY weighted to make things as "fair" as possible (i.e. players in lead positions tended to get nothing but BAD events whereas the players at the bottom would often be given free ships and or cash money via GOOD events). While I can accept a little weighting, I sure hope tornadoes and mining accidents only happen to the currently winning players (if just measuring by Civ Score ranking).

Those quests have some pretty good rewards... i just hope there are a good variety of em... it would suck having to build 11 stables every other game....

You meant to say you hope that they don't only happen to leading players, yes?

I don't think they are weighted much, rather they are tied to buildings, terrain, civics, etc., and balanced in being not too influencial.
Of course, some games you might be screwed, and some blessed, but I don't think it will be due to score.

From what I understand, very easy to mod in. XML, mostly. And slave revolt is in, though I don't think it ever spawns barbarians, that could be added. (modeled after the partisan, event, for instance.)

Sort of...

More like I see, if getting really simplified, these events being Positive, Neutral, or Negative Events (i.e. helping the player to screwing them over). In Master of Orion 2 there seemed to be too much of a balancing act where the Random Events brought lead players back down and losing players up.

I want to believe "whatever will be will be" and not that the random events are all going to be weighted toward freebies for me if I'm losing or visa versa. In other words, even the leading player should have an even chance at some real benificial events.

I'm playing the world map, and I'm getting into the late game now. I still feel that it would be nicer if random events came up a little more, but now I'm getting one every 40 or so turns.

I personally havn't noticed weighting. I've not gotten any positive ones yet though, despite being everywhere from the bottom of the score chart to the top (1000 AD scenario Mongolia starts low, but can kick ass later, they give you enough units to take over 4 cities and build 2 of your own if you play right), I still havn't gotten positive ones. They seem to be mostly negative. I have gotten one neutral one though. I think the benefits out-weighed the consequences though, 500+ intelligence on Spain but -1 relations with Spain.

I'm at the top of the tech tree and it seems i've had events way more frequently than you, on the other hand, I haven't had a single 'quest'.

To me this is a good sign.

Posts 4 to 7 of this thread go into a large amount of detail about creating events for those who are interested. The same info should allow people to amend existing events as well.

I got quite a lot of random events, some quite major. There was one where there was a religious explosion in one city, and it spread to literally 10-15 new cities (and I had its holy city too!). Normal size/normal speed.
Another where my axes got upgraded and all my axemen got a free shock promo(!) And I was Zulu too!
And some less major, such as one where people were breeding prarie dogs as rare pets in one square, so +1 commerce.

Has anyone completed a quest yet? I'm curious to know what the rewards are, especially so if you build the wonder that they usually tell you gives an additional bonus.

I mean, you expect me to build 9 triremes and the Great Lighthouse when I have one coastal city? :nuke:

Yep, I got a classical library quest (and I was creative too!). Build 7 libraries and get a bonus.
The options were: +2 science in the biggest science city; a free ancient era tech; or with the GL, an extra free science specialist (ie +3 research, +2GPP) which was pretty nice.

Probably not worth going well out of your way for, unless you've got the GL.

Random events occur too much, and they suck. I lost my Combat 3 + Flanking II for no reason. I attached my Great General to it.

It's the last time I played with this feature/bug on.

About 60-70% are bad events.

I'm getting quite a few random events nearly all neutral ones. I'm top of the tech tree, (way out in front).
There was only 2 bad ones, a farm was destroyed and the other was a cottage has burned down.

I havent had any quest's yet.

Standard map and normal speed/length game or whatever it is.

I played a game for about 2 hours last night and ended up getting like 8 random events. I dont know the programming behind it so I dont know if theiri weighted or not. But I can tell you I have gotten way more negative ones than positive. And I am way ahead of anyone else. It keeps things interesting though.

Now wherever might they have gotten the inspiration for this random event?

Where is the option "Vote for Pat Buchanan"?

I also had a chuckle about the French workers who suddenly became super efficient and increased happiness throughout France.

I actually had quite a lot of events in my two games so far.
Had two quests in the second and one in the first and a lot of smaller events, everything from slave riots to religious miracles.
I just play standard speed by the way.

Random events are exactly what I expected, they are annoying and suck bit time and don't have much impact impact at all on gameplay.

My best one yet:-

Spoiler :
Just after I'd built a castle in my cap:- "A local warlord offers to use his personal funds to aid in training your military"

Then 3 options (sorry forgotten the first)

2nd was 3 Free Pikemen delivered to your castle or

3rd:- 'Free' Military instructor in your cap, in other words a 'free' settled GG, but I needed to pay something like 600 Gold for this, and I'd just spent it on troop upgrades. Aggggh!

So I had to take the free pikemen....next time I'm keeping a cash reserve just in case..
