hi i'm new to civfanatics but just wanted to post about this thing

i just completed a huge continent map, epic setting game at chieftain level, and decided to start on a second game. i picked the same settings and started the game. after exploring the continent for abit, i got struck with how similar the place was to my previous game. then i found Ghandi on my west (again) and Isabella and Napolean on my right (again). feeling suspicious, i explored the northwest and BAM!! the stone and wheat resources were in the same place. i went east and it was the same cluster of gold. i went west and it was the same circle of hills with a river.

ok so i wondered whether i somehow mistakenly clicked some setting that made me replay the same map, so i quit and started another game. ok this time the map was different but some bad planning got my capital sacked by barbarians so i restarted again. and then the next game...BAMM!! i started on a land with surroundings suspiciously similar to the first and second game again. i sent my scout west with dread and yes, once again i met gandhi. i sent him northwest and i saw the stone and wheat again. finally i sent my second scout east and i met bismark this time instead of napolean, but then i met isabella again in her same starting position.

twice might be a coincidence but thrice is stretching it. has anyone else experienced the same problem with the "randomness" of the map generator as well?

Yes!

For my first game, I chose a Terra (huge or large, I don't remember now) map and played with Indians for a while. Later I started another one with same selections and easily realized that I was playing the exact game!

I will try other combinations if I manage to not continue my current game as soon as I turn on my computer.
