I've been looking through the promotions list in the manual, and Bombardment is unique to ranged units and opens up lots of other very useful promotions like logistics, range, volley and mobility.
Now the thing is that Bombardment says that it increases 'combat damage', not 'ranged combat damage' like accuracy and barrage.
Does this mean that bombardment only improves the melee combat damage of ranged units, and not the ranged attack?
Logistics which gives ranged units 2 attacks per turn, and volley which gives +25% against fortified units (both only exclusive to ranged units) also only state that the bonus applies to 'combat strength', and not 'ranged combat strength' like accuracy and damage.
If these promotions only apply to melee strength and not ranged, what is the point in having them on ranged units?
The Range promotion gives +1 range and is opened up with Bombardment I, surely most people are going to want to spec their ranged units into the Bombardment line to get Range + Mobility, and then if they do apply to ranged attacks as well Logistics + Volley.
The upgrade names definitely sound like they are ranged combat type bonuses, but the manual only states they apply to 'combat damage', and not 'ranged combat damage'.
Also, the last ranged units are Crossbows / longbows / Chu Ko Nus. I havnt checked what these upgrade to, but it looks like they upgrade to riflemen. What happens then to a ranged unit that is heavily promoted with the ranged combat promotions, that gets upgraded to a rifleman?
It seems strange that there is no industrial and modern era upgrades for the ranged units when there are so many ranged unit promotions for them to take. After the middle ages are over, Englands Longbows and Chinas Chu Ko Nus have no upgrade path and become useless
