ranged units promotions

Hello,

I can't remember all the past discussions on this, but regarding the two branches of ranged units promotions, wouldn't it make more sense to place the range promotion after accuracy:
1. thematilly, the ability to shoot accurately seems more consistent with the ability to shoot over long distance than with logistics
2. gameplay wise, it would balance better the two branches, as range (usually seen as the best tier 4 promotion - let me know if you disagree) would follow accuracy (usually seen as weaker than barrage)

Thanks!

Personally, I would rather see Barrage affect units with =+75 HP, and Accuracy affect units with -75HP to balance the promotions.

Hello,

For the vast majority of history, the ability to shoot long distances was via parabolic arcs. It was more important to fill the air with missiles, because you couldn't really aim other than to gauge distance. Only once range shortens to the point where the wielder can shoot in a straight line does accuracy matter.

Similarly, Barrage (filling the air with projectiles) is most effective against large groups of enemies (high health units), whereas high accuracy will perform better once the enemy has been thinned out.

I don't know if it needs to be this high, but yes I could see going to +60/-60, or +65/-65.

Honestly I just pick barrage 95% of the time right now, the 5% is late game when I want the double attack.

Ranged promotions are just about power to me, there is not finesse there. Melee promotions are where I make the cool tactical adjustments and plays.

Barrage also lets you flex Medic, whereas Accuracy does not.

My opinion is that Barrage v. Accuracy is a dumb distinction, and the swap we did awhile ago now didn't solve anything in terms of theme, it just changed things that had been in the game since vanilla.

I would propose a distinction of Accuracy versus Precision: Accuracy is the ability to hit something hard, Precision is the ability to hit it multiple times.
Accuracy would lead to Range, Precision would lead to Logistics. Accuracy would be a bonus versus high health targets (more targets to hit critically), Precision would be a bonus to low health targets (continuing to hit something that's already been hit).

I will always pick Barrage unless I'm about to shoot something with less than 50HP on that exact turn, or if it's the rare case that I'm fighting against Samurai since their HP doesn't matter in melee.

I prefer accuracy over barrage, because it means you will finish units with ranged attacks and not melee, so you won't advance into enemy territory, and your melee units will more likely survive.

Interesting that +1 range > logistics for you two (and I assume many others).

I find logistics to be significantly better. I'll have about ~4 archers I'll spec for +1 range and all the others are specced into logistics. The double damage is just so useful for clearing AI hordes and eventually they get +1 range bc of 2x XP earning.

Also, when you upgrade them to gatling guns, arent they better with logistics? As you want them to be as close as possible to the fronline to apply the debuff to enemys at 2 tiles away
