Well, there is no info in the article as to what the now dead person was doing there in the first place, or any particulars such as his job or other past.
RIP anyway. Surely a horrible way to die, regardless of himself pretty much committing suicide. Even nearing a gator out of the water is a very bad idea, let alone getting into the water, and during their feeding time (sun was down?) as well.
