Rat - 05 silent game

we should have moved the settler also so we could have been @ +4fpt with 2 irr wines.
 my bad, maybe too paranoid about AW so thought covering the lux would be best. Well, sorry about that.

Maybe contacts on emperor difficulty are easier to get since we had 3 of them talking to us already. Nice to see masonry as well.
What are our plans for research? Are we going for philo after writing? Or do we want to find horses and iron first?

Agree with the spot to settle. That's what I thought as well, too bad the EW is covering it at the moment.
By the way the land in the east looks just plain awful

Got it, play soon.

It's only emperor, I think we want to go for the republic slingshot. Even though we're defiant and could end up close to AW, they'll be declaring on us, so I think we can manage the WW.

Not much to report.

2470: P'yongyang founded after the EW gets out of the way

2470/30 IBT: Gandhi says hello

We trade WCode & pottery for CB & 35 gold

2190: Pop a hut, get barbs, warrior promotes to veteran

2150: Research Writing, Seoul builds settler.

I have deliberately not moved the settler or its escort, so the next player can decide where to place the next city.

Need to decide what to research too, my preference is to try for the republic slingshot.

I'd say go for philo, whether we can get republic needs to be seen, since we can't trade for currency unless the AI is willing to. But, we should get a free tech anyway.

If the game comes up tomorrow (Wed) I should be able to play. I get ~2 hours every night while the wife is at work. Since I did househould cleaning on Monday, I have Handy 18 tonight (Tues) I should be able to play this on Wed.

Preturn: Move out the settler.

IBT: Hittites pop up a trade. They have wheel and we have Writing. I decide we need to take advantage of the communication and get them to throw in 31 more gold.

2110 BC: We have a nearby horses. It happens to be next to my planned town. This is good :D

2070 BC:

2030 BC: Build Wonsan Right outside the border is a Persian settler. Glad I chose this spot to go for first. There is another Horse just outside our borders.

1990 BC:

1950 BC: Ordered to leave Indian Territory. Ok.

1910 BC:

IBT: Persia establishes an Embassy.

1870 BC:

1830 BC:

1790 BC:

IBT: We meet the Incans.

1750 BC:

Notes:

It looks like land will be grabbed quickly. We may want to grab the silks right away.

The red dot grabs the silks, is on the river, and has some bonus grasslands to work. It looks best to me. We can fill in a town in between after getting the silks. Persia is already grabbing the gems. We may want to fight them...

Not sure if trading writing was the right decision, but I was worried that opportunity would be Rare.

Romeo is up,

I thinkwe should go for philo first and try to get a free tech. trading writing was ok in my opinion, since we have few chances.
Ou military is too light, we will run into demands and get war, I would try and get more troops first.

IHT: Swap seoul to warrior.
Turn 1: Nada
Turn 2: Persia demands gold, told eloquently to enjoy his own company. He is offended and declares.
Turn 3: Inca scout goes by. Trying a greebley trick of parking by their cities on a mountain.
Turn 4: It works well as we flawlessly kill a warrior with ours, and promote.
Turn 5: Persia settled really close to us. Trying to whack it quickly.
Turn 6: Have 2 warriors outside Sidon, defended by a reg warrior.
Turn 7: lose 1 hp to get 5 bonus gold by burning Sidon.
Turn 8: Pachutti offers us myst for 110 gold. I can talk him down 1 gold. Pull that trigger.
Turn 9: Manuevering
Turn 10: Manuevering

Ideas for next settler: Across the river, directly south of the road I built to the southern river. Northern Horses.
Persia should sue for peace soon.

that did not take too long, hope they'll regret declaring, but we better be prepared for more demands...
I suggest to settle on top fo horse first to secure them

I would expand south first, then head for our 2nd ponies. The ponies won't be poached but land near Persia is kind of scarce.

nice :hammer: romeo. good thing we got the war pre-immortals. imho, we need a couple more core-rax towns before we start settling aggressively, esp. towards the Persians. No lux is going to be a problem if we don't try to grab those silks soon as Greebly suggests.

Maybe next we can chop a rax in Pyongyang and get that bg mined to get another a unit pump going?

I think you guys are overestimating the AI here. This is Emporer, not the normal deity most of you/us play. In my experience playing emporer, a spear and a warrior defend everything pre sword just marvelously. I also think Persia will sue for peace soon, allowing us to safely expand. For that reason, I think we want the granary in Pyongyang ahead of the rax, although I agree a chopped rax should be the next build there.

We will be getting some more military very soon

A horse picked off our archer and an archer killed are vet warrior on the mountain
sounds not too good, hope we can get a peace offer soon, I would suggest to build walls and military for now and slot in a settler when it is feasible. We face immortals soon and Persia looks scary to me.

looking at the stats, we have 2 spears and 4 warriors with 4 cities? Are we trying to suicide ourselves? In my mind this is not acceptable at all. We can't even fight off any intruder that way and get pillaged at best, lose cities at worst.
Research is set on philo, well, let's just hope it pays off, since I think we need HBR and IW as soon as possible. I don't think getting a granary was the right thing to do when fighting a war. It sure will help in the long run, but we need to keep our cities first. Lucky you settled the city north away from the enemy.

A screenie with the situation would be nice, am at work now, will play tonight.

I have lost Rat 3/4 due to careless playing and don't want to repeat the same here. We need to treat this as AW and thus walls, rax and mil have highest priority.
