Rat - 05 silent game

Actually I went to the local Office Depot, explained my problem, and asked for options. I eventually chose a non-listed option and got off for ~$30 less than they wanted. The guys there were pretty intelligent about computers, and helped me fix an unrelated problem for free.
Now the only hard part remains in convincing the wife that the money I spent on the computer was more important than her going shopping for new clothes. :) Is there a book or website that has this arguement, preferably with several points??

Preturn: Switch towns away from Horses. I much prefer swords as horses tend to get slaughtered unless they are fighting archers.

Early: Choose to go for the GLib in 40 turns. I will be working on improving the lands. Decide not to take out the Arabian town as there is a Persian settler right there.
Get Currency.

Mid:
Sumeria demands Lit and declares war.
India will trade Construction for Lit but I want to try for the GLib so I don't do it.
Some wonders finish.

Late:
A bunch of wonders complete by the AI. Sun Tzu, and Great Lighthouse are the only ones other than the Statue of Zeus started soley by Persia. If those two wonder get built before the AI gets Lit, we can probably get the GLib.

GLib in 30 turn. We can add workers to get up the size. 3 workers in a pile were planning to mine the plains. We are at +food which is unnecessary if we are going to merge in workers.

Republic in 12 turns.

Only Arabian troops have shown up. We killed a warrior and 2 archer.

The warrior in the N left the mountain as 3 archers were approaching.

Persia is the one we want to be at war with. They are growing big.

Do we want another city between Pusan and Najran? we could secure that iron on a mountain with it?

I think starting the GL was a great idea, hopefully it will work out. We badly need the tech boost, we have so few towns.

Are we at war now with 4 Civ's?

that's a pretty nice peace deal we got there...

but others starting the GL isn't that great. and Persia is still the monster in the making...

dl123654 is up

by the way, we are revolting now, I guess republic will initially be a killer for us in terms of unit support, but with more towns it should get better.

We may want to wait until after the GLib is gotten or fails before revolting. I don't want to miss it because we revolt.

Did Sun Tzu finish before the Arabs started the GLib?

Also we should have added workers to the GLib town (assuming we did want it which I think is true given that we are "backward").

I opened the save and we revolted already...maybe not such a good move, might cost us the GL...and while at war with 3 Civ's this could be deadly...

Alrighty then, time for some comments/explanation.
1) We are not backward, the Sci advisor is hitting the old meth supply pretty hard. Mono takes 35 turns feud, 18. Therefore We can safely conclude that Mono has not popped yet, and we can't be that far behind.
2) We will have some unit costs, but as a sci civ, republic cannot be passed up.
3) The Inca are at war with someone else, they whacked a warrior of ours up by their lands, but had troops going in another direction.
4) Sun Tzu did not finish before the G lib popped, thus leading me to believe that our shields are flushed anyway. I was desperately trying to get enough cities for the FP.
5) Sumeria's troops are all gassed, other than the 2 MDI by basra. We can attack with our ponies or defend.
6) Persia will fall really quickly once we get a force of ~20 Hwatcha together.
7) We must think long term, and not get too embroiled in this small temporary stuff.
8) We can redeclare on the backward, ironless arabs at our leisure and pointy stick something from them before they die.
9) I would found the settler in place on the jungle, that should give us the FP option.
10) I was hoping the pictures could explain what I did well enough to avoid an explanantion and writeup. Cest La Vie

lurker's comment:
Well with the nature of this variant I hope it wasn't republic. WW has a potential to really cripple you with it being hard to get out of wars.

I don't think we have Monarchy so it has to be republic.

If we stay within our borders though, we can keep WW down. We just want to make sure the AI doesn't get attacks on our units and that we don't lose on offense - a good number of catapults would work.

If the number of attacks are anything like during my turn, then I have little fear of revolting while at war. I even saw some enemies that looked like they were moving away from us so I think the AI is also at war - not positive on this though. The biggest problem would be if the AI suddenly shows up all at once, but we can probably handle even that with the units we have.

Wasn't going to republic the way we lost Rat04? I would want monarchy but if we don't have it we can't get it. Got it

I would think we could make Republic work, but then I haven't tried this variant before. You all may know better than I.

I definitely know we can manipulate the amount of WW we get by changing the way we play. Whether we can get WW low enough - that is what I am not sure on. I have been at wars at Republic that I was able to avoid WW. The fact that it is an Emp game will make it easier as there are fewer units to kill.

We do want to maximize our number of towns above size 7 though.

Republic should be fine. We'll get a lot of war happiness by getting declared on by everyone :) Just need to expand and get those lux's to make it managable.

Where's the Persian ivory? We can shutdown the SoZ by disconnecting it, something to think about for our next war against them, which should be brutal.

I naturally assumed that since we were researching it, and obviously had been researching it for a while that we were all in agreement to go for it.
I think we can easily make republic work. If in doubt, try a solo game as Napoleonic France conquest to re-get the hang of annoying WW.

let's stick with republic and found another city to get the FP (in case the GL goes to another Civ). We should then build up more military.

By the way, I guess attacking with the horses at basra is far better than trying to defend. Odds should be better.
