Rat-32 3BC AW as Persia

:bump: TheOverseer, do you know you are up?

Yes, still working on Rod01. I can probaly do this some time tomorrow.

Bare bones here, an entirely futile turnset, I acheived squat. Here's the turnlog:

Move troops toward the front.

Civilian units:
Workers 4
Slave 1

Military units:

Press enter=>

IBT: Aztec galley moves into the fog. No other movement.

Turn 1, 730 BC: Move 3 more Archers up to Teo, hopefully 6 will do.

IBT: Aztecs want to talk…no!
Pasargadae Archer=>Archer.
Arbela Archer=>Archer.

Turn 2, 710 BC: Another Battle of Teo: vArcher dies, taking 1 hp from eSpear.
vArcher dies, taking no hp from eSpear.
vArcher dies, taking 3 hp from eSpear.
vArcher dies, taking no hp from rSpear, who promotes.
vArcher dies, taking no hp from vSpear. I stop there, let us not promote another.
Archer rushes can be so incredibly pathetic!

IBT: Archer steps out of Teo, another near our Furs colony.

Turn 3, 690 BC: eArcher dies on rArcher near Teo
vArcher wins clean in revenge.
Near the Furs colony, vArcher wins vs rArher, -3hp.
The bright side: I can raise the tech slider to 70%, to get the Wheel in 2 turns at
-6gpt.

IBT: Pasargadae Archer=>Archer.

Turn 4, 670 BC: Nothing to do but move archers north.

IBT: 2 Jags and a Spear come out of Teo.
The Wheel is researched, next is HBR in 28 at -1gpt.
Arbela Archer=>Archer.

Turn 5, 650 BC: Good news, Horses are in Antioch’s city radius.
Lose one Archer killing the Jags and Archer combo.

IBT: 2 More Archers at Teo.
Pasargadae Archer=>Archer.

Turn 6, 630 BC: Retreat wounded units, move new ones north.

IBT: Carthage sends us an NM, Aztec Galley lands an Archer.
Sort of a rush with 2 more Aztec Archers, with most of ours wounded.

Turn 7, 610 BC: vArcher wins vs rArher clean. 1 less attacker.

IBT: NM kills the Spear guarding Antioch. Let’s see, 2 attack, vs 2 defense across a river, behind a wall, fortified………..what an absolute crock!
Pasargadae Archer=>Archer.
Arbela Archer=>Spear.

Turn 8, 590 BC: Move wounded troops behind walls, new troops north.
Assign a beakerhead, Pasargadae grew.

IBT: Aztec Archer steps on cow at Antioch.

Turn 9, 570 BC: vArcher wins vs rArher, -2hp. Cover with Spear.

IBT: No AI movement.
Pasargadae Archer=>Archer.
I guess we need another try at Teo, our unit costs are mounting.

Turn 10, 550 BC: vArcher wins vs rArher, -3hp. Cover with Spear.
vArcher wins vs rArher clean.
That’s it for a worthless turn-set. God I hate archer rushes!

The save:

Pre-Turn
we need more cities, send out party after Tlateloco

1. 530BC
move troops there, Antioch will be under some pressure

IT defeat a merc on defense

2.510BC
defeat an archer and move next to Tlateloco

3. 490BC
lose 2 archers but we take Tlateloco and rename it to No loco
gain 2 slaves
defeat 1 archer at Antioch

IT Atzecs think its better to attack No loco and move their units there

4. 470BC
defeat 2 archers at No Loco

5. 450BC
there are 4 archers next to No Loco, defeat 1
but the Aztecs will attack with forces, send out an sacrificial archer

IT archer defeat 1 archer bu succumbs to the next

6. 430BC
scramble defenses to face the enemy next turn
need to archers bu manage to take out a potential pillager spear

IT enemy decide to change course again and goes after Antioch, defeat an archer on defense

7. 410BC
No Loco is connected, unit support is too high and research crawling at 20%

IT my shifting of defenses makes No Loco attractive again, win against merc

8. 390BC
get up some better road connections to be more flexible
decimate a 4 archer stack next to No Loco, but lose 1 archer

IT Aztecs surely are on fire and bring on 5 more archers

9. 370BC
defeat 1 archer but No Loco faces 4 of them in the IT

IT 3 Aztec archers join the glue factory, 2 spears promote elite :)

10. 350BC
defeat 1 archer with our elite archer, block an important tile for the pillager spear
we should be able to defend
HBR is due in 2 turns, we should try and get on the offense after that
I think we need temples to be able to expand borders to pull in nice tiles

i got it

judging from the logs i doubt i'll be able to start attack during my set. depending on the horse near antioch is risky, like the idea of some culture. but units seem more important now...will have to look at the save.

sending out a scouting party might be a good idea, iron is a must. we should focus our attacks into that direction as soon as possible.

i had no intention to sail around the landmass. our next target is obvious anyway, i'd just like to know where to go from there. we can't afford the units for an exploration party, i'll peek where i can. just don't see us surviving for long without iron.

culture will have to wait, no builds available yet. will switch cities to settler as horse prebuild. maybe palace in antioch for a temple.

will head for monarchy and attack teoti rather sooner then later.

sounds like a good plan to me

Turn 0:
move archers toward no loco. the one from arbela costs me a scientist. compensate with spear from furs for this turn.
move spear from horses to forest and fortify.
+3 gpt and HB still in 2

IBT:
aztecs send JW and lose two archers (2-0)

Turn 1:
kill JW and promote archer to elite
kill aztec spear (4-0)

IBT:
HB->CB in 6@0gpt
more aztec archers

Turn 2:
expose cow to lure archer
switch to horses, antioch still on palace
kill archer (5-0)

IBT:
aztecs land archer near no loco
they also threaten our workers near antioch
capital: horse->horse

Turn 3:
move archer and another spear to protect them
lose eArcher before killing the archer near no loco (6-1)

IBT:
spear holds no loco against archer (7-1)
arbela: horse->horse

Turn 4:
teoti still size 6 and protected by regs
eArcher barely wins
vArcher captures Teoti->walls (9-1)
5 resistors, move in all available units
rArcher retreats our first horse
CB in 3@0gpt
move units to protect horses
waste worker turns on oasis, lack units to protect them from aztecs right now

IBT:
quelled two resistors
carthagians land archer near antioch
lose archer and spear to aztecs (9-3)
horses and no loco defenders win (12-3)

Turn 5:
kill aztec archer (14-3)
don't like to have most our units in a resisting city, but see no alternative
scientist in teoti and increase science give us CB next turn
see now i forgot about increasing lux to get 10 spt in arbela

IBT:
aztecs kill spear and disconnect wines
carthagian archer kills spear on horses
CB->myst in 5@0gpt
capitol: horse->horse
resistance ended, civil disorder

Turn 6:
kill archer (15-5)
MM for shields and switch to temple in 5

IBT:
teoti starves

Turn 7:
kill archers (17-5)
aztec settler on his way to backsettle our land. how considerate - i'm building a road around the fur colony already
move units to protect horses from aztec archer...should have let him move on it to get kill on flatlands

IBT:
teoti starves
arbela: horse->spear

Turn 8:
whip walls in teoti
promote horse on archer (18-5)
need 30% lux for the 10 spt in antioch. do that for now.
spot aztec capital. still no iron in sight.

IBT:
capitol: horse->horse
aztec settler in front of no loco. doubt they take the time to pillage.
teoti: walls->rax
dehli finished SoZ

Turn 9:
reduce science
switch walls in no loco to temple

IBT:
NM passes spear, probably for horses
arbela: spear->spear

Turn 10:
protect horses
lose eArcher against aztec spears (20-6)
corruption in antioch ruins my MM, not really surprising

Notes:
let our units in teoti far too long, use them for something.
tenochtitlan seems a bit too much, but the village north might be too small and protect us from more neigbors.
lost several spears and replaced only one
suggest you follow the ridge further with our spear scout. at least until the green boarders end.
carthagians have been quiet.
lux is there for 2 turn spears. suggest antioch gets to that after temple and we build 4 turn horses in arbela with 10% lux
did not pay as much attention to wines as i should. we could use them.
don't forget the archer near our fur colony

horrid ratio, but i would account only one loss to mere stupidity

seeing another city in our hands looks always good! Let's get the Aztecs, Carthage is small anyway.

I would let the spear explore a bit further also for tactical reasons. To get their capital will require more troops. At least we have horses now.

if the carthagians stay as quite as they did during my set, conquering tenochtitlan is doable. some more units would be needed though and they ones we have were on standby for too long already. I'd consider getting the city on the west coast, but with our units mostly located in teoti the city in the north is the natural next target.

i had some doubts concerning our research path. with size 6 cities stuck already, monarchy seems less tempting. cats might help us more without the unit support of size 7 cities. unit support is still our main problem.

had a look at the save, I agree on getting maths next as we need some defensive capabilities as well

Overall, it was a pretty defensive turnset.

Turn around the scout.
Kill Aztec Archer by our Wines (10-2)

Change Arbela to Temple since it can't build Horses and would waste 7 shields on a Spear.

Aztecs want an audience. Forget it.
Aw :( Greece comes into view N of Teoti.
Pasargadae: Horse->Archer
Spain completes Hanging Gardens

Turn 5 (50 BC):

Declare on Greece.

Turn 9 (30 AD):

Kill Archer by Teoti (25-3)
Move a stack into Aztec territory. I'm not sure if it'll be enough to take Tenochtitlan, but it's as much as we can commit right now.

IT:

Carthage lands a settler S of Pasargadae! Sweet, another town for us :)
Aztecs kill one of our spears in the big attack stack :wallbash: (25-4)

Turn 10 (50 AD):

Kill an Aztec archer and move our stack into the forest outside the Aztec capital.

I left a 4/5 Horse unmoved - should we move him to town to heal, fortify in place to heal, or kill the archer next to him?

sweet to take Tamuin and getting up another lux. Not so sweet to get another monster UU enemy :sad:

I'd move him on the attack stack. He might be the one unit enabling us to take tenochtitlan (from picture, didn't look at the save).

My core talk wasn't premature. Our position seems better then I expected a couple of sets ago. We're doing ok without iron, but I still think we can't keep this up for long.

Suggest we focus on the south after Tenochtitlan.

I agree that our focus needs to be to the south after Tenochtitlan. Of special interest is Carthage and their soon-to-be-settled town on the southern peninsula - we need to attack with a pack of Horsemen on the turn it grows to size 2. Greebley and Matthias, please watch it closely :)
