Rat-32 3BC AW as Persia

I have seen this before with iron on mountains. I think it is because the AI can see all resources and doesn't consider which one it can actually use. If the saltpeter and oil were on easier squares to connect, it was probably off doing that rather than the iron :crazyeye:

I think that if you had IRON in your radius they would have roaded

I'll get to this maybe tonight, probably tomorrow, as soon as I finish my DW-01 set.

It seems like the tide is turning - we have Iron now, and we'll be able to kick off our GA soon. If we can avoid losing ground during Anarchy, I think we might just have a shot at this.

I have finished my turn-set. I was not adventurous, pretty much playing defense. The Iron is hooked up, the Army is full and ready for pillaging duty, and we can revolt to Monarchy anytime. There are catapults positioned for pinging duties and a surplus of units to carry us through the anarchy period.
Here is the turn-log:

The next player gets the best and worst part of this game. The dreaded anarchy phase and then kicking off the GA with an Immortal. Good luck, may you get a short anarchy.

The save:

I agree we may be at a turning point if we play this right.

el_filet, can you take this?

Pre-turn:

Tour the empire, things look good. I'll revolt next turn to allow three more builds to complete.

IT:

Chop completes at Monkey's Paw, which was about to complete a build :(
Monkey's Paw: Spears
Pasargadae: Horses
Arbela: Immos

Turn 1 (510 AD):

Revolution! We draw a 7-turn Anarchy.
MM cities; +18 gpt
Kill an Aztec Archer
Bombard another two so they'll run away.

IT:

Enemy units shuffle.
Aztecs land an archer near our capital.

Turn 2 (520 AD):

Bombard eHoplite near Teoti -2hp.
MM cities: 32 gpt.

IT:

Aztec Archer makes a Horseman retreat.
Several units heading towards our Iron.

Turn 3 (530 AD):

Bombard and kill NM near Antioch. Horse promotes.
rHorse kills Aztec Archer by our capital.

IT:

Greece moves troops into our territory by the iron.

Turn 4 (540 AD):

Bombard and kill the Greek MDI. Redline a Sword and yellowline another.

IT:

Troops shuffle.

Turn 5 (550 AD):

Kill a redlined Greek Sword near Iron.
Lose a Horse while killing two Spears and taking Tzintzuntzen (renamed Tzin). It has Gems in its BFC!
Kill redlined Carthage Sword by Antioch.

IT:

Resistance in Tzin ends.

Turn 6 (560 AD):

eHorse kills redlined eHoplite.
eHorse kills random Aztec Archer.

IT:

Monkey's Paw riots to avoid starving. I MM to end the riot.
Tzin riots. Hire a taxman.

Turn 7 (570 AD):

Kill redlined Greek Sword by iron.
Bombard and kill Aztec Archer near the Wines.

IT:

Monkey's Paw starves.
We install a Monarch.

Turn 8 (580 AD):

Horse retreats vs. Greek MDI.
Lose a horse vs. Greek MDI.
Kill MDI with a third horse.
Kick off the GA using the Immo army.
Start the HE in the 20 spt Pasargadae.
Lots of MMing!

IT:

Aztecs are building GLib.

Turn 9 (590 AD):

Some MM and troop movements. I'm preparing for an attack on the Aztec and Carthage in the east.

IT:

No Loco: Catapults.
Arbela: Immos
Antioch: Immos
Tamuin: Immos
Leptis Minor: Catapults.

Turn 10 (600 AD):

More troop movements. The Aztecs have a stack near Monkey's Paw, but I moved the Iron at last catapults to counter. They should be easy to toast next turn, though you'll have to pull some Horsemen from halfway across the empire to do so.

Writing is due next turn with an overrun of 2 beakers :)

We should consider building a Barracks in No Loco and do 3-turn Immos while the GA lasts. OTOH, the quick-building cats are nice.

this is looking good :goodjob:

Great job kicking off the GA just nicely.

I would use the GA to build some libraries in our core to expand some borders.

Peturn: Looks reasonable.

610 AD: kill off nearby archers losing a horse. Heading toward Texacoco with the Army an some Cats

620 AD: Capture Texacoco.

630 AD Working on roads to our newest cities.

640 AD: Carthage located.

650 AD: Got Literature and started Currency.

660 AD: Slowly...
670 AD: ...Advance

Greek MDI are the Largest threat.

680 AD: Autodestroy a size 1 Aztec town.
Start Bombarding Pharsalos.

690 AD: Pharsolos is a tough nut.

IBT: We get Currency. Start on Construction. Our core towns really need Aquaducts.

700 AD: We take Pharsolos, but it costs us. Not sure if we will have to retreat again. On the bright side we spot Greek Iron. We may be able to stop those nasty Greek MDI. However we do get a leader
Bombard Carthage but it gets us nowhere so the Army heals this turn.

Notes:
Starting to go after the strength 3 units in towns is showing our Horse to be pretty poor even vs injured units. I think we will be glad to have Immortals as they do ok against injured units.

Leader is going back to make another Immortal Army.
We got the Heroic Epic. We are 7 turns from the FP.
We might have to retreat from
Some libraries completed. Didn't start the GLib since 2 AI we know are already researching it.
Pharsolos is going to be hard to hold but gets us another Lux. I would send the new Immortal Army towards it when it is made.
I wanted to take out Carthage, but I might not have enough. My thought was that the army could kill Defenders, resting when needed until the Cats get the remaining units low enough for the others to attack. Note that Carthage has not shown up with units.

I am really hoping we can get that Greek Iron. The cats bombarding it might work if nothing else does, or 2 Spear might not be attacked and can pillage if those aren't practical then wait for the new Army.

Check the MM, it was late when I finished.

thanks ThERat i will definatly be following

Looks good. It would indeed be very nice if Greece builds that Great Library for us.

I'm only halfway through my turnset, so I won't finish tonight, but the action thus far is worthy of an update.

1. Pharsalos deposed, but our new army has recaptured the city
2. India completed the Great Library
3. We got another MGL :goodjob: (Pentagon in Teoti?)
4. We have just captured Carthage
5. Two new border colors east of Aztec city (see attached image)

Do we reverse directions in Civ? I look at that image and see new colors to the *west*. For that matter, I frequently have a similar confusion when reading posts on these forums...

 what do you mean?

Anyway, sounds great to get another MGL and other stuff. We should be able to claim our continent sooner or later.

Looks west to me too. Its good news that it won't require ocean going ships to invade the other continent. Once we finish our continent, that is.
