Rat 42 - CCM Heading to the Moon

I don't think you will have issues Greebley, I also did not experience any issues with steam.

While being at it, since nobody claimed the game yet, why don't you take it from here?

That's fine with me. I won't be able to get to until after work this evening, at least 18 hours from now.

I just want someone to grab the game. Since this is the first cycle of the game, any of the 3 of you can claim it.

Ok, if Greebley can play this before CB then fine, otherwise just grab it, CB

It's now a few days since NP played his turns, there surely must be someone of the three of you who can play this game? 10 turns are played fast anyway at this stage

Pre-turn:

Tour the empire. Ooh, 30% lux slider. Expensive.
Is the Warrior build in Hamburg for exploration, MP, or worker defense? I'll treat it as worker defense for now.
Oooh, nifty gems graphic in the south.
I also see that Rome is up a lot more techs than Japan -- chances for twofers :)

IBT:

A Japanese warrior wanders into view near our southern scout.
Berlin: Spear -> Spear
Hamburg: Warrior -> German Flag

Turn 1 (2500 BC):

Southern Scout reveals yellow borders
Due to the new MP in Berlin, drop lux slider to 10%. 2 extra gpt

IBT:

Incas build the Pyramids.
Carthaginians build the Temple of Baalbek.

Turn 2 (2460 BC):

Meet Egypt. They're up Masonry, Pottery, The Wheel, Poly, and The Sail. They have Wines, 205 gold, and 3 cities.

Checking F4, this doesn't open up any new trades :(

Western Scout sees ocean.

IBT:

Indochinese create Stonehenge.

Turn 3 IBT:

Berlin: Spears

Turn 4 (2380 BC):

Romans got Writing.

Turn 5 (2340 BC) - quiet

IBT - Egypt complains about our Scout.
Berlin produces Enslaver.
Hamburg: German Flag -> Slavery

Turn 6 (2300 BC) - Enslaver spots orange borders to the west.

IBT -
Berlin: Spears

Turn 7 (2260 BC):

See more orange, no units though.
Enslaver walks up next to our Leipzig Workers. Move MP to help cover workers and bump up lux.

IBT -

Enslaver attacks our Warrior. We win and promote, no damage.
Leipzig: Slavery -> Archer

Turn 8 (2220 BC):

Meet the Netherlands. They're up Masonry, Poly, and The Sail. They have 113 god and 4 cities.

They lack Warrior Code. They'll trade one tech and all their gold for it -- or two techs for WC and 10-20 gold.

I'm going to pause here -- this is starting to take more time than I can squeeze out this morning, and I'm not sure what techs are most important.

If someone can take the save, go for it, otherwise I'll play again in ~12 hours.

great to see the game moving :goodjob:

Is there any chance for a 2fer? Since Rome and Egypt seem to have techs on us, do we have a chance to get a tech from Dutch that Japan doesn't have? Otherwise I would take poly and masonry

Had a look at the save, we can get poly and masonry for WC and some cash.

Japan lacks masonry and we could get wheel from them. As we want to fight Japan sooner or later, those war chariots would be great, so once we get the wheel, we can then switch over to the stable in our capital. Great opportunity to get a little back in the tech trade.

Ooh, I just had a fun thought. Once we have the Wheel from Japan, we can turn around and trade it to the Dutch in exchange for The Sail :D

Started playing (2 turns in) but thought I would throw this open for debate:

We can get Writing for Warrior Code, 160/175 gold, and 4 gpt(out of 14) or
We can get Pottery for Warrior Code and 15 gold.

Whichever we get can be traded for Japan (168 gold) and Dutch (105) gold.
We still have 10 turns to Iron Working which noone has yet.

Which deal do you feel is better? Writing has academy but our capitol has the stables to complete in 3 turns first.

My inclination is to go for Pottery and gamble that we can get the more expensive writing in a trade for Iron Working. If that doesn't work though, we may have a delay at getting a science building and scientists which slows us.

I will continue play tonight or after 2 replies that agree.

Edit: We already did the trades mentioned - we are only down Writing and Pottery.

I agree--we shouldn't be giving gold away in trades until we know what IW might bring us, so Pottery.

Some of this may now be redundant, but:

The spot NW of Hamburg claiming two cows and wheat looks like an obvious site for our next city. This settler should definitely set out with an escort of two.

Now that the invisible attacks have started, we should take the cheap precaution of getting our half-price walls up in all three cities--in Hamburg's case, before the slavery build.

Our elite slaver next to the Hague can't do us much good that far from home; any slaves it might take will quite likely be lost on the way back. We should start moving it back to our core. Basically, slavers are best used to ambush AI units that come to us.

We can return the lux rate to 10%.

The slaver was helping explore, but I agree that he should be sent back home now.

The lux rate was bumped up because I moved a Warrior off Leipzig as a safety measure in advance of the slaver's raid. Now that the threat is over, we cut off the extra circus :P

Sure, I knew the lux rate had been raised for a reason.

I agree not to spend so much cash until we have writing. Get the cheaper tech.

We will meet more AI's anyway along the way. That should give us iron trading opportunities.

Btw, as for governments I also lean towards monarchy, civinator hasn't come back here yet to make a case for others :D

The way you are playing, I also think monarchy is the best for your civ. It seems the theocracy-rush (beeing the first to research philosophy and than taking religion as the free science) is no longer real possible.

What do you think about republic - trade bonus, no tile penalty but also no barracks (what can be somewhat compensated by having the palace, worker houses and the siege workshop in different cities) and low war weariness? :D

Preturn:

Start the mentioned trades:
Get Polytheism and Masonry for Warrior Code and 16 gold.
Wheel costs us Masonry and 155 gold from Japan.
We trade Wheel to Dutch for Sail and 30 gold.

Rome is up Pottery and Writing.
Egypt is up Pottery

Both Writing and Pottery are outside our price range.

We can lower lux to 10% for 3 more gold, plus move off deer for 1 more (8 and 7 shields the same)

IBT: The enslaver is attacked but wins. It goes to 1 hp but generates a slave.

2180 BC: Move enslaver and worker away.

IBT: Finish Spear and start Royal Stables. Spot light blue

2140 BC: Meet America which has Pottery and Writing but is down Warrior Code.
Trade Warrior code for Pottery and 15 gold. Get 168 gold from Japan and 105 gold from Netherlands.
Also moved the clan before remembering it needed to be upgraded - so wasted 2 turns.

2100 BC: Build NP's walls in all towns.

2060 BC: Kill a Warrior with Enslaver near Italy and get a slave

2020 BC: Not much

1980 BC: Tech situation still the same. We will pass 500 gold for the next IBT.

IBT: Liepzig holds off invisible unit.

1940 BC: Spot Israel. We have the Sail and they don't but will only give us 60 gold for it so I pass for now. Kill Enslaver near Liepzig.

1900 BC: Quiet

1860 BC: Had to raise Lux up for one turn. I want two units on all importan squares since we are getting attacked.

1820 BC: Build Konigsburg near the southern cow. Next we should go for NP's spot.

1780 BC: Iron works is learned just one turn before we get it. 2 civs now have it.

IBT: We get Iron Working

1740 BC: Fortunately Egypt has Writing but not Iron Working. It costs us an additional 145 gold to get it.
We now have tech parity with US, Egypt, and Rome. Ahead of Japan by Iron Working, and ahead of Isreal and Netherlands by Iron Working and Writing.

At turn 50 so stopping here.

Notes:

Not sure what we should go for tech. I set it to Construction and set science to 80% but that will still take 50 turns - By trying scientists, Construction is 1000 science - so requires over 20 to reduce turns and we are at 15 now. We could either do construction at minumum but would likely get beat to it or try something less expensive.
