Rat27 - AWM OBC as Persia

there was no message about the romans being eliminated, i assumed they sneaked a settler past us. the crappy position doesn't seem likely for a start, but i don't remember ever playing with respawnig civs.

I checked my settings and I must have read the respawn backwards because it IS on and I have no idea how. Stupid thing is I did check, but must have misread which direction was which. I hope I haven't ruined the game. It is nasty because now Rome has a built a second city and a bunch of Archers and Spear approach us. Crudmuffins! At least their land stinks.

Lower science to 1% - Math still in 1.
I think we should start our prebuild. It will take a long time for Rome to build the GLib and I think we will need the palace prebuild.

For Rome to have gotten a city down there, it is possible they got a free settler or city from a Hut.

We were next to Carthage and so of course have contact and I declare war. Too bad, it would would have been nice to hold off contact with them. Looks like we may be able to block them a bit.

Early: Killed 2 Numidean in Leptis Magna, but it shrinks to size 1 - another Num Rushed and the city holds.
GA ends.

Mid: France is also on our Continent? Several Romans spotted to the south. Spear and Archers.

Late: Destroy Tokyo. Destroy Romes initial rush of 2 Spear and 2 Archer.

Notes:

A Immortal went to 1 hp attacking a 3 hp Warrior. It is possible the 2 hp warrior with it will attack us and win - if so it was just bad RNG, ordinarily the attack would have been safe and a 2 hp warror no danger.

Note that Carthage showed up NW of the ocean above Rome and Veii, so this is likely a large inland sea. I believe this is why blocking the NE will work - Carthage can just go around.

ok, got it...does respawn mean that they will respawn as long as there is land avaiable or only once? If it is idefinitely we might be in for a rough ride since we can't settle the voids

Agree with a blockade in the northeast as we have a hard time defending the far streatched empire anyway.

save

Got a few things done during my 10 turns.
I set up the wall to the east and now Carthage needs to round the inland lake. France has sent some units including horses from there. Not real threat yet. I managed to take the Japanese capital with 3 immortals.

I also sent out a small party to take out Rome.

We should be careful not to stretch too far as defense will get increasingly difficult.

I don't know much about respawn, whether the eliminated tribe gets one respawn or an indefinite number as long as there is empty space. It might be a bit nasty if someone respawns right on top of our Iron colony. On the other hand, it may mean we'll get some nice towns settled nearby. Unforseen accidents can be nice...or not.

Turn 0:
everything seems to be in order. wish there were units to conquer rome, but our unit support is high enough as it is.

IBT (2):
elite immo barely wins against attacking jap archer. maybe exposing him to attack would have been better...

IBT (3):
franch start ToA

Turn 4:
lose immo attacking cumae

Turn 5:
and another one agains frech warrior...rng doesn't like me

Turn 6:
i really should have waited for more units toward romans. their archer will probably kill our other immo i tried to move back to heal.

IBT:
and he's gone
pyramids are completed in tenochtitlan

IBT (10):
lose another immo to warrior, at least this one was weakened

Turn 10:
kill roman archers

Notes to next player:
my lack of patience cost us on romans, don't make the same mistake again.
expected attacks on kyoto and sent units there. our resulting lack of units in veii caused me to lose some of the few units we had there.
make sure the french spear doesn't cause to much trouble, immo on his way.

and another one against french warrior...rng doesn't like me
what are the odds to lose an immortal against a warrior? RnG didn't like you for sure. I would still like us to take out Rome to eliminate any flip risk.

I guess I'll try to build an attack force for Rome during my turn-set, defend against Japan, and otherwise try to keep some momentum going. I have the save, and I wil play later today. Any suggestions are welcome.

I have played, it went well despite the one ridiculous combat outcome. Here is my turn-log:
Spoiler :

Pre-flight check: CivAssist 2, Word program up and running. Load the save.
Non combat:
Workers 4, Slaves 0
Military:
Warriors 1
Spearmen 4
Immortals 13

Press enter=>

IBT: 2 Carthage warriors show up near Veii.
Veii Barracks=>immortal.

530 BC: pretty much nothing.

IBT: Japanese want peace….no.
2 Carthage warriors step up beside Veii, another French spear shows up.
Persepolis immortal=>immortal.

510 BC: eImmortal wins vs Carthage rWarrior, -1hp, and we get a leader!
Rat27Darius.jpg

Darius made into Army.
1st Immortals wins vs Carthage rWarrior, -1hp.(2-0)

IBT: Uhhh-oh, France has horses.
Japanese archer steps up beside Kyoto.
Rome has 2 archers heading toward our Immortal group.

490 BC: eImmortal wins vs Japanese rArcher clean.(3-0)
We are so spread out, I’m getting worried.

IBT: no attacks, but French have a mini stack, horse and archer near Veii.
Both Roman Archers come up to our Immortals.

470 BC: eImmortal wins vs Roman rArcher, -1hp.
vImmortal wins vs Roman rArcher, -1hp.

IBT: Persepolis Immortals=> Immortals.

450 BC: 1st Immortals wins vs French rWarrior, -3hp. (7-0)
Send Immortal up Iron road.

IBT: Kyoto Walls=>Barracks.

See 2 more Carthage warriors incoming.

Veii Immortals=>Immortals.

370 BC: Shuffle some troops.
eImmortal loses vs Japanese rArcher. What a bunch of crap!
vImmortal wins vs red-lined Japanese rArcher, 1hp.(10-1)

IBT: pretty much nothing.

350 BC: Move army out towards Satsuma, note that it lost population, either to a worker or a pop-rush, so now an attack will burn it, unless they built a temple. It is badly located anyway. Three Immortals stacked at southern choke, ready to go after Cumae. That’s all I can do.

Non combat:
Workers 4
Military:
Warriors 1
Spearmen 4
Army 1, 3 Immortals.
Immortals 16

great news getting an army :goodjob: I hope this will help us keeping up. I would try and get Rome as the north is spread really thin.

A different strategy would be to let Rome develop the tundra and then take their cities once they are developed a bit further. This game is surely not easy and requires a very different approach.

We can take Cumae any time, it won't raze, then wait for the new capital to get culture and take it. If there's no infinite respawn, that should be it for Rome. Japan is going to be tough to take, and they are medieval now. Means that there will soon be Samurai if we don't chop them down to size. I'm wondering if you and Greebe should swap, since he is up in 2 other SG's. It might get turns done quicker, if you are able to play it.

ok, I'll swap with Greebley as we seem to have the same order in both games anyway...will play now

save

Preturn
Rome is working an unimproved tile, but 1 more shield will only get corruption
wake up the immortals and send them towards Roman capital

1.330BC
I don't care about Satsuma now and send army west

IT more horses appear at Veji, 2 warrior are at Rome, a spear near our iron colony
we are short of units

2.310BC
move on to Roman capital and avoid attacking units, shuffle a bit

IT a Carthage warrior and French horse die at Veji and Rome

3.290BC
defeat French spear in the hinterland, now we got more flexibility, army move on to Osaka
the RnG is kind to me as we defeat both spears and take Cumae

IT bad as we lose an immortal to an archer at Kyoto
we get literature

4. 270BC
the GLib will take another amazing 34 turns at the moment
turn army around to help out at Kyoto, taking out an archer
it's risky, but I take care of a French archer and horse...some level of risk at city defense now

IT lose exposed immoral to French horse, some galleys are around in the east

5. 250BC
defeat japanese archer at Kyoto

6.230BC
I park 2 immortals at the last Roman city to wait for border expansion to take that city
defeat 2 spears in Osaka

IT now there are 3 French horses near Veji, we get pottery
head for monarchy path now

7.210BC
rest army at osaka as there are 2 archers nearby

8. 170BC
cut 4 turns from th Glib by mining a hill...still very far off
French divert now
defeat 2 more spears in Osaka, not enough

9. 150BC
need to pull back army as Kyoto is threatened, defeat an archer
French horses are after our worker connecting the cities
take out 1, retreat the other, but worker must flee

10. 130BC
take out warrior at Rome
tricky situation in the tundra...we need to decide what to do

I think best is to take out Rome now to remove the archer threat without exposing anything
I took care of a spear and a french archer there. if we do not take out Rome, we need to bring the worker to safety
I think best is to take them out

Realize I lost a turn and played one too many...sorry

our far flung empire
rat27120.jpg

situation in the south, immortal can attack spear in city and raze it (I think)

rat27120b.jpg

This game is tough and defense not easy. we should try and go after Japan once we have taken out Rome. I do hope we can get the Glib. It would help a lot offset the unit support at this level...

Preturn: Killed Roman Archer and Attacked Roman City.

Rat27_BC0130_Rome.jpg

IBT: Carthage Num Attacks in the town way to the South.
Got Cer Burial and went for Wheel. Knowing where horses are will help.

110 BC: Elite Immortal attacks 2 hp Horse in the Hills and Loses. Grrr!
We do get a promotion this turn though to make up for it.

90 BC: Move on Osaka.

70 BC: 2 Spear in Osaka killed.

50 BC: Capture Osaka. Can raise science to 50% at 2 gpt.

30 BC: Block Carthage Numidean

IBT: Statue of Zeus Completed

10 BC: Several French Horse.

to 50 AD: Dealing with units like the French horses. Move on Satsuma and explore first French town.

Notes:
Kyoto is flip safe -there are no Japanese citizens.

I have seen no enemy swords.

Attack lined up on Satsuma and was hoping to take Orleans with the Army.

We are short on Workers. Maybe Osaka should be switched to one if we are going to attack Orleans. I had some plan to make Wines accessable if the other one was gone, but I am thinking it may be a waste of worker time right now.

I MM'ed the capitol to 15 shields and no growth, but doesn't need it next turn. If you want to MM twice you can get some extra food.

Rat27_AD0050.jpg

looking good :goodjob: we have 4 luxes connected already, which is really good. I would get some more spears to free up immortals for the offense. France has a lot of cities, going after them is wise. I also see that we have horses at Veji, even better.
As for research, we are nearing the completion of the Glib (how many turns left?), maybe we can head for monarchy slowly.

edit: we might also want to slot in a library in some towns to get border expansions. With so much empty land, that could help.
