After our pretty convincing victory as Persian on monarch, we are trying to play this scenario again as Iroquois. This time on emperor.

The rules are simple. We are playing Always war and may never build a second city. We can only acquire them via captures. This game is played without annoying barbs on continents.

I played 18 turns to get us to WC on the way to find horses for us. I stopped here, as there are no beakers invested yet in a second tech. Do we want to go for the wheel first or are we trying to get BW for spears first? IMHO it would be good to know where the horses are. Remember, we can form colonies.

The Roster:

el_filet - up
Greebley
TheOverseer
empty

as you can see , there is still one vacancy. Players that have experience with always war games are welcome. Other strong players, of course, as well.

Locating horses has to be first priority. I think BW can be after that as we aren't going to explore til then, so hopefully we meet no one until we know.

I think Cerenkov would make a fine addition to this SG. If you guys don't snap him up, I will for SGFN-04.

Can I get in on this one?
Hello Cerenkov, nice to see a new face here :goodjob:
We are always looking at new additions. Just to get a better idea, did you ever play AW games before. They are quite different from standard games. Maybe you can tell us what type of difficulty you are comfortable with.

Thanks, Overseer!

THeRat: I usually play Monarch-Emperor. I've never done AW, but I've read through a couple of finished AW SGs and am very familiar with OCC/OBC.

I think probably the most important part of AW play is the concept of how to keep the casualties down. Getting a good kill ratio is important in AW given how outnumbered you are.

To this end the basic idea is to not attack where the AI will attack back and kill your unit. Letting units get closer so you can attack safely - sometimes allowing 1 hp units to retreat and heal (when you have bombardment) rather than killing it and risking the unit.

The other key to good kill ratios is catapults and other bombard units. In non-AW you rarely have to defend vs the AI so these units aren't as important (they help with attacks but are too slow to be really useful). So getting Math early is important.

So my advise for an experienced player new to AW is to concentrate on getting a good kill ratio and see how well you can do. The rest of AW is overall strategies that can be picked up while playing.

stay on wheel

spot silk
korean spearman on our boarder
they're up bw, masonry and cb

meet egypt warrior
they're up the same

wheel in, no horses in sight :(
research is set on bw, no beakers in

both civs were met where our archer stack waits for our second city.
no trouble from the other side so far.
i was careless declaring, didn't do it immediatly after spotting them. in case of cleo this might have given us a slight advantage. i doubt her reg warrior would have attacked our vets in the forest, but moved on a less vulnerable position.

EDIT: looked up the specific rule concerning declaration. cleo wasn't on foreign adviser screen yet, so no violation here.

hope our 3 archers run into a city we have a chance to take. we need another city and if it's only for the unit support. and while you're on it greebley, could you run into some horses too, please? :p

Can i play as well? Comfortable with Monarch, something of a warmonger, will that do?

Welcome to CFC Rodent,

I would consider the ability to consistently win at emperor to be a minimum. Always war bumps the difficulty up a level so this is essentially equivalent to demigod or perhaps deity. I think you can play SG's a level above your difficulty level, but not two+.

I encourage you to enter another succession game that is somewhat easier for your first game. Normal AW Monarchy or Emporer game perhaps. Once done you could start raising the bar and going for the harder ones.

You got any suggestions for a game where i can get in?

let's hope we can find some resource nearby, else we are in trouble. I know Greebley is busy in his game, so maybe one of the 2 players of this rotation can play first?

If Cerenkov doesn't want it yet, I can take it this evening, since my personal game is in the milking/waiting for 20K to finish. I hate it when I run out of enemies to crush.
