Rat29 1BC AWM - pangaea

suggested eastern cities because they're bigger, but getting rid of our second front certainly helps us more. expected an inland sea too, but this explains the few units we encountered there.

hf TheOverseer ;)

We weren't able to grab as many cities as I would have liked. The terrain was so lousy though that the cities weren't able to grow at all. I think at this point I would just destroy them if they drop to size 1 so we can concentrate on the attack.

Got the save, I will probably begin play tonight. Hopefully I will have a cavalry army out laying waste by around turn 5, and can burn some useless, non-growing cities and capture some nice ones. I'm thinking the new Greek towns SE of old India look ripe as keepers.

Someone is eager to play some turns ;)

I am done with my turns, my internet was too twitchy to post the results last night. Everything went pretty well, grabbed 4 more enemy cities. I'm a little under the weather, but I owe the team my best effort. Here is my turn-log:

Spoiler :

Press enter=>

IBT: A Greek knight swoops out of the fog to kill our elite knight.
Dromon destroys road near Second City. Incan LBs, Roman MDIs advance.
MT arrives, next is Astronomy. I will keep tech slider low until I get some knights upgraded.

Turn 1, 1110 AD: Ping any reachable units. Kill 2 Roman MDIs, plus the offending Greek knight. Upgrade 3 knights to cavalry. MDI army kills defending hoplite, Ephesus captured, 1 slave taken.

IBT: Incans send another settler, this time guarded by a musket. Vikings send a Berserk.. 2 more Roman MDIs arrive. Huamanga finishes Leonardo’s.

Turn 2, 1120 AD: Lose a knight on a redlined Roman MDI…huh? Upgrade 2 more knights to cavalry. Kill 1 with a newly upgraded cavalry, kill the survivor with army. Another upgraded cavalry kills the berserk and promotes.

IBT: Dromon kills our galley, guess that area is too dangerous to take a boat.
More Incans arrive. Our people love us; add a dome to our palace.

Turn 3, 1130 AD: Upgrade 2 more knights to cavalry. Load 3 cavalry into empty army, 1st Cavalry is born. Immediately throw it into action, taking out 4 longbows, a crusader, and a spear with it and lone cavalry.

IBT: Greek longbow and pikeman move toward our worker stack. 3 Incan longbows also.

Turn 4, 1140 AD: Kill the Greek pikeman and longbow, bombard the Incans. Move units to guide Incan settler pair away from any areas I don’t want them in. 1st Cavalry parked in Bombay to heal.

IBT: 3 ACs show up at Palmyra. 1 Incan knight appears. A Roman LB and MDI show up between Bombay and Bangalore.

Turn 5, 1150 AD: Kill MDI and LB near Bangalore.Kill 1 of the 3 ACS with eCav. Send 1st MDI Army toward Marathon in the far south.

IBT: AC’s move up to Palmyra, as does Incan Knight. Damn mountains! Texcoco riots on growth, missed that one.

Turn 6, 1160 AD: At Palmyra, 12 bombardments, 3 hits, so much for bombardment. This will need the Cavalry army. Lose 6 hp killing all 3. Add a 4th Cav to this army, all armies full. Kill 2 Hoplites at Marathon, a longbow remains.

IBT: 3 Incan knights arrive, 2 Greek knights move in. Settler pair causes hunger at Delhi.

Turn 7, 1170 AD: Lose a Cavalry attacking a redlined knight:mad: Kill the rest without losses. Kill the LB at Marathon, take the town.

IBT: 2 Incan knights arrive, also 2 berserks, and an AC/settler pair and a Roman MDI.

Turn 8, 1180 AD: Redline and kill both knights. Move 2nd Maces to Troy.
Accidentally leave a musket exposed.

IBT: Naturally, an MDI kills exposed musket. More Incan Longbows and Crusaders show up.

Turn 9, 1190 AD: Kill a spear at Alesund with 1st Maces. Kill 2 Incan Longbows and 2 Berserks at Palmyra. Lower tech slider to 20%, Astronomy in 1 turn at +122 gpt. Kill 2 hoplites with 2nd Maces, Troy taken, along with 2 slaves.

IBT: Roman MDI pillages road, 2 more block access. More Incan knights arrive.
Astronomy research finishes, next is Banking in 6 turns at.

Turn 10, 1200 AD: Kill 2 spearmen with 1st Maces, Alesund taken. Entire south is now clear. Kill Incan Crusader and Longbow at Palmyra, Musket and Longbow at Bombay, 2 Roman MDIs at Troy. Move 1st Cavalry to Tarentum.

Civilian units:
Workers 27
Slaves 27

Knights 1
Cavalry 13
Army 4, 1 Swordsmen/MDI, 2 MDI, 1 Cavalry

The save:

I had no leaders from ~20 elite victories. Hopefully, the HE can make a difference. Should we make the Military Academy in Babylon, or is it too late to have any real impact?

got it...looks like really good progress here :goodjob:

Is there a reason you guys seem to be so short on artillery? I know it was always so important in AW games I've been in the past.

Mostly the support costs and build priorities are why we are low on artillery. The variant means we depend on the AI to build our cities, which means wide spacing and less support. I we were building cities, we would have at least twice as many in the same amount of space.

Pre-Turn
MM and put our capital back to 20spt, why was it on 18spt for no reason???
our production capability is still pretty limited, I wonder whether communism would be better for us in the future

1. 1210AD
take Tarentum
defeat a redlined templar and then lose a elite cav against red knight on flat
this however is avenged by a e-pike win against the knight that gives us a leader
fill army and send it towards Molde
at Troy defeat a mace and send mace army towards Eritrea

2.1220AD
take out 2 units and Molde is ours...supply might be a problem soon for our cav armies
move the other army out of Tarentum and take Juli, we need to defend those cities, though
take out 2 units in Eretria and defeat settler pair + pike around that area

3. 1230AD
start to attack Rhodes, then take Eritrea
defeat 2 zerks at Molde

4. 1240AD
Molde seems to be the new magnet for the AI
defeat 1 LB at Eretria and grab Rhodes

IT enemy units move towards empty Tarentum
we ge banking, physics next in 9

5. 1250AD
take out templar and knight near Molde
move army out and take Pharsalos, Greeks have no more saltpeter

take out 2 knights at Rhodes, but our army is redlined in the process

6. 1255AD
move towards Rome with mace army, some strategic moves to strengthen the front

IT Greeks finish Cops
Molde gets under pressure from Viking units

7. 1260BC
lose a cav at Molde trying to take ou 3 units
take out 2 zerks while moving cav army north to what looks like the Viking core
take out 2 muskets in Rome

IT first defensive action during my turnset, take out knight and the left over zerk and gain a leader
lose a cav later on though

8. 1265AD
the pressure around Molde and Pharsalos is quite substantial as the Incas come from there
pull back army from Birka and take out knight and LB
manage to take Rome

IT Vikings land 3 units next to Rome

9. 1270AD
after mining for some time, Madras is now at 20spt as well
take out 3 units near Molde
move cav army into Rome and defeat 2 ACavs there

10. 1275AD
Rome is really weak as I take Antium after defeating a mere pike there
take out 3 knights from Inca at Molde, situation there is still critical and we need more units around
we have a 1 cav army in Molde as well, needs to be filled
take Birka as a buffer to Molde

Jerusalem in the north is now pop2, we might want to take it out
2 cavalry are on their way

with more armies and units, we should be able to overwhelm the enemy pretty soon

I smell Victory :goodjob:

Hopefully i will not get a chance to play again

I'm betting that the Byzantines are on an island, as I have only seen a settler pair from them. If we are going for Domination, we can probably win while totally ignoring them. The Vikings are also pretty weak, as are the Romans. Looks like this one's getting to the mop-up stage. I think the next could be Emperor level if we continue the 1BC variant, I think our strategy is pretty well nailed down.

No way, Working this hard for domination, i do not agree. fill ships and whack the byzantines for conquest victory i say

maybe we skip el filet for now as he hasn't posted a got it. Rodent, do you want to take this?
I agree that we could go for conquest after all
