In your difficulty setting. what would be the perfect mix for the slide. Because im always struggling with the slides changing back and forth.

I need a bit more info as I do not have a clear understanding of the question.

I pplay on Emperor. You know those slides in the advisor screen (sci) and (luxury).

So. whats your opinion

If you're looking for a "perfect mix" for the sliders, so that you can just set 'em and forget 'em, I don't think there is one. I change them constantly. I keep the lux slider as high as necessary to prevent riots, and no higher. I spend as much as I can afford on science, unless I need cash more than I need beakers. On the first turn of the game, I usually run 100% science. On the last turn of every research, I turn it down as far as I can while still getting the tech in that one turn.

In the beginning of the game, i often need some tax. Later, when i have many lux and gpt trades going, i try to get tax to 0.

Hapiness can be up to 50% in the very beginning of the game, (before you have connected even your first luxury, to keep your settler factory happy). This is then reduced to around 20-30% later (when i am starting my conquest). While conquering the world and gaining more luxuries as well as trading them, the slider goes down. If i build market places, it will reach 0 at some point. From there it is usually 100% science.

The standard thing for me is to have science as high as possible, and set happiness and tax at whatever is needed. Then, try to gain as much gpt and luxuries from other civs to reduce those sliders and increase science.
Meanwhile, try to be carefull with your expenses (don't keep those obsolete units around that cost you upkeep, don't have many city improvements that cost upkeep, have some cities size 7 for unit support etc) and be carefull with your happiness needs (try to keep your larger cities somewhat similar in size so that you don't have to do everything to keep just the biggest town happy, sometimes use a few clowns in your biggest towns (a few being 1-3 total empire wide) if that can reduce the lux slider. Check for the sliders every turn.

At emperor, I usually set the science slider to 100%, and move it up and down as I need to keep my cities from rioting.

Except for when I decide I need gold more than better tech.

I don't know at which level you play, but you generally need less lux at easier levels. I believe at Chieftain 4 citizens are born content, 3 at Warlord, 2 at both Regent and Monarch, Emperor and above only 1 citizen is born content.

Theoretically, you should be able to keep your lux spending lower at the easier play levels, BUT you need to know how to manage your population by building settlers or workers when a town starts to approach its happiness limit, at least until you get enough luxes hooked up. Population management can help a bit at the more difficult levels too, but it gets more complicated then. Specialists can play a big role as well, but try not to use entertainers.

Entertainers can be useful when you have just a few cities unhappy and most of the empire happy. There's no point spending extra on 8 cities when only the other 2 need aid.

Often you can restore the balance with a scientist or taxman rather than an entertainer. Using a tax or sci is better because they add something to your empire as a whole, rather than just creating a tiny amount of happiness to one city as the entertainer does.

So true.

When I start to see unhappy faces it's time to go take some luxs.:ar15: :D

0% tech and 0% lux is the best, who needs techs and happiness, just make settlers/workers on your cap, and pop-rush vet warriors on all the other cities and go kill! :hammer2: :wallbash: :scared: :shake:

Spam alert :mischief:

cool. thanks guys, I never knew the lux slider was really an important tool for my sucsess.:nuke:
