OK, work's on hold until you find anything new... but as Blender itself is very capricious, maybe we should ratha find a renderer (maybe Plotinus?) and move on, if anythign gives us trouble then I can fix it.

If you want to, I can send you a more or less 'clean' version of the file (failed attempts, unused textures, etc. remvoed) anytime you wish.
Yes, let's get the file out of the lab. If you're comfortable, post it here. If not send it to me privately. You mentioned textures. Have you already created a uv map? If so to you have a version saved that is identical but not seamed & unwrapped? That way if there's a problem with the map we can go back & try a different set of seams.

No, no, I only have the original model, I've never done a UV-map before. I'll send you the file tomorrow night, once I've polished some stuff off, there's tons of props and placeholders in hidden layers, so I won't be able to complete it tonight -it's almost 3 AM here- :).
By the way, I haven't marked any seams and the pennant is still a flat triangle too, you might want to subdivide it.

Take your time. I probably won't be able to tackle the next phase til the end of the week.

Got it. & got surprised with 2 major meetings for the internship - one on Friday & one next Wednesday. Of course both require preparing presentations that I didn't know about until today. :crazyeye: So I won't get to do much more than glance at it for a few more days.

OUCH. That must have hurt... well, do what you can then :)

It's not so much that it hurts - it puts me ever closer to the end of intern slavery & the beginning of slogging for a salary. What I hate is having to rearrange a whole week's schedule.

Shouldn't you be writing by now? ;)

First right brain, then left. ;) One of the things I've got to do is look at a lot of internet visuals to track down tutorials specific to problems people up the pipeline are having.

You can always ask Uncle Takh who'll give you a partly-related answer and a lot of gossip while passing the hot potato to someone else. The perfect boss! I could teach you, it's not that difficult. ;)

Well, now that your conference should be over... how's the ratha?
You did say I could hit you with a cattle prod now and then, btw

I can only imagine one way you could be past Wednesday while I'm still in Friday.

It's just a loop in quantum physics. Piece of cake. I'll prod you again last Thursday then ;)

How did the meeting go? :)

As every day is Caturday, it's hard to keep track of time in the same way that you humans do.

You around, mister?
Right now I can't figure out if my life is more

For some reason I'm father confessor/marriage counselor/bartender/barrista/lunch lounge for most of my friends the past few days. Today I got about 2 hours to sit at the computer and that wasn't all in one block. Supposedly there is going to be a computer set up for me by tomorrow afternoon at BCS (internship co.) in their new offices. I'll probably get more civ creative time there than at home.

I wonder if they'd let me bring a sleeping bag & a french press to the office. Since I don't have a cell phone I could really get some creative time in.

EDIT: Did I mention the Marx Bros. fire drills moderators are currently dealing with? See images above.

I thought the internship was over and that you were going on a normal employee spot.

Fire drills? No, nothing of the sort. I got an infraction a couple weeks ago but that was it. And no, you won't get me to moderate to help plug the leaks ;). You need responsible folks for that.

I'm one of two who survived the internship. More or less guaranteed employment (starts August, no contract signed yet) conditional on my completing some more training & getting up to speed on their current projects.

All the putting out brush fires happens where no one sees it.

Kudos on the training survival. Looking forward to any input you might need...
Feel free to ask questions if you see some weird feature in the model. It's all solid, so switching it to smooth might show some abnormalities in there. Sometimes it helps, but sometimes it just shows weird things that don't even show when rendering.

Finally had a few hours this morning to look at the model. Overall it's excellent. 3 minor problems. The most important is that there is a dark line that shows at most angles. I forgot the command you told me that lets me unlock the edit mode, so I couldn't look to see if it's duplicated vertices or what. The shaft of the yoke showing through may distort the rest of the ratha if it's moved. We'll have to ask some of the experienced animators if that is so.* I know they're not part of the ratha proper, but the weapons still disappear when viewed at the size the unit will be in game - they need to be fattened up.

* We'll also have to ask if the wheels/axles need to be separate objects in order to turn properly in the animations.
