okay this is just really annoying me now. every time i raze some awful tundra/ice city of size 2 or something, 4 axemen appear and destroy the three swordsmen that i sent up there! for god's sake, the city was only defended by two archers i have just lost two CRIII swords because of this. anyone else agree that this is unbalanced?

EDIT: just had another one, but because he had no more metals, they were explorers! made me crack up.

Has nothing to do with barbarians. It's a stupid (probably bugged) "random" event. (Partisans)

It hass a strange All-or-Nothing distribution... If you see it happen once in a game you can be sure, that it will happen in every city you raze in that game... If you raze the first city and nothing happens - the event is not active and will never strike till the end...

It's also a bad idea to defend with just Swordsmen...you should put a couple axes/archers for axe invaders.

Yeah I also think this event is unbalanced in number and strength of partisans. It has made me change my play style insofar as I prefer to take the cities I'm going to keep first if possible and save the ones to raze.
That is of course if my military is much stronger than the enemy's and I can afford the loss of troops.

You can always check with the first city to see if the event is on. If it's on, just adjust your strategy accordingly (i.e., don't raze if possible). It can be annoying if you don't know what's going on though.

It was a good idea, but implemented poorly. The partisans always seem to me to be made up of whatever you'd be able to draft. I had a city razed by sudden attack by axemen and I received 3 musketmen - just got Gunpowder a couple turns before and hadn't even added any to my production queues yet.

I do agree that tiny, useless cities shouldn't produce a lot of partizans. Maybe divide population by some factor dependent on the environment - predominant grasslands and plains = 2, tundra and ice = 3. (Most Ice cities are just fishing villages, and the citizens would just sail away.)

I've only seen this event twice, and both times one Archer spawned in the capital. Since I come prepared with extra units, it usually doesn't matter..]

But I can see why people hate it. Do the Partisans spawn in the capital or near the razed site? Also, do the Partisans come with automatic promotions based on traits, or none at all?

I also agree it is very terribly implemented. I'm not against it totally, but definitely needs some big changes.

I still don't understand why there is no open beta like the old days. I guess they figure the way companies just let the purchasers become the testers now, there is no need to beta anymore.

I also don't understand why any of the update team couldn't realize they took out the features that showed extra pills you'd get when absorbing a great person. The gui also doesn't indicate any extra spy-pints a building will give either anymore on the builds list. To many other things worth mentioning to add as well...

But strangely if you choose to have them in capitol, less partisans will appear... I guess some get lost in taverns and pubs along the way to capitol...

Well there's a nice exploit. As soon as you get your required techs for modern armour, and you have a city #1 pop getting culture pressured against a neighbour AI. Declare war on that AI, let him razz your city, and instantly you get 4 brand new modern armours (free). Yup, you haven't even had a chance to build any yet, but there you go... an army right out of the box.

Now off to conquer that AI.

O_o

Obsolete-- Doesn't that option depend on the AI cooperating and razing the city? Bit of a gamble, there...

A city that never grew to size 2 (i.e. one that you just settled for this purpose) will be autorazzed.

Which is in fact somewhat convinient, as the number of partisans depend on cities culture level not size... So if you manage the city to pop borders without letting it grow (make the only citizen be artist) it is guaranteed to be razed, and will give you more partisans.

Just so you know, the event IS bugged. Partisans are only supposed to appear if the owning civ is running Emancipation -- therefore you should never be getting partisans appearing at the beginning of the game.

EDIT: whoops .. double post with jkp1187

It is bugged.

It triggers 100% of the time in 35% of the games you play. (this part works)

But, it's only supposed to happen if the razed city was under Emancipation. (this part is bugged)

I haven't tested it since I fixed it myself, but the HoF mod is supposed to fix the Emancipation bug.
