RBC9 - Hittite Charioteers

Hattusha, Tyrana and Alalah switch to colosseums to get the clowns to work. Hattusas switches to Intelligence Agency. Erdenet will need a specialist for a while so the scientist will work on Communism for the police stations.

IBT Mongols demand TM and 44g. In Gibbons Great History of the world, wer are the Fine Hittites ranked 3rd in size behind the Mongols and the French.

1480AD-1 Tarsus infantry-->stock exchange Tyrana colosseum-->infantry Renegotiate the peace with Abu. We can oly get 20g from him. SciMeth will cost close to 100GPT so I take his 20g.

1485AD-2 Hattusha colosseum-->infantry Alalah colosseum-->granary

IBT It looks like Joan is now modern. She is offering a MPP and ROP. Tempting but I'll pass.

1490AD-3 Tyranna infantry-->granary Hubishna infantry-->hospital Alalah granary-->infantry

1495AD-4 Hattusha infantry-->stock exchange The Aztecs are down to their last city. We do not have enought cash to buy anything but ironclads. I take their WM and 62g. I was hoping to have enought to steal refining but we are 100g short and no one will loan us the extra gold.

IBT The French destroy the Aztecs. Temujin cancels our ROP. There must have been some war happiness and Hattusas riots. I add a few clowns.

1500AD-5 Tarsus stock exchange-->coloseum Tyrana granary-->infantry Alalah infantry-->stock exchange Buy ivory from the mongols for 8GPT. Decide to go with bulk buying and pick up his 4 spare lux for 30GPT not 1 for 8. We do not need the happiness for all 4 but I would rather him decide to lose 30GPT than 8GPT. Tarsus switches to artillery.

1505AD-6 Hattusas IA-->stock exchange We have an agent in Korea now.

1510AD-7 Tarsus artillery-->infantry

1515AD-8 Hattusha stock exchange-->infantry Tyrana infantry-->stock exchange Wang has been paying us 12GPT for horses for most of the game and he does not have a mounted unit in his army.

1520AD-9 Hattusas stock exchange-->infantry Tarsus infantry-->courthouse Hubishna hospital-->coal plant Alalah stock exchange-->artillery

1525AD-10 Hattusha infantry-->artillery The MPP between the Koreans and the Mongols has ended. We have enough cash for a careful steal now. The next leader can pull the trigger.

The Game

RBC9

1525 AD (0): Be careful what you wish for! This is a game just looking to end badly. Anyway, we are wayyyyy wayyyy behind and I am not even sure what to do with my turns. But something must at least be tried. We have 2439 in gold and will be able to steal 1 tech every 10 turns carefully. If I wait til safe it will be 3 more turns. I go for it and carefully steal Refining from Koreans, maybe just maybe we are in the oil buisness. Refining to the Arabs for Scientific Method and spices. With gold as our only weapon I will focus on Stock exchanges and maybe losing a few obsolete units. I disband 7 units only. Reg pikes and spears only. I don't think it is worth the upkeep to keep them around against the Mongol Modern Armor. Yep they have the big tanks.

1530 AD (1): Surprise Surprise we have no oil. Anyway, in the spirit of economic growth as things are built I push on with of all things wealth. This pushes our gpt up to +323.

1535 AD (2): France and Arabia sign an MPP. Hattusas starts on Wall street.

1540 AD (3): Continue building up gold to attempt future steals. Our best offensive unit is the rare cav and the best we can build is a Knight. Strongly considering revolting to a better gov't but can't afford to waste even 4 turns. :(.

1545 AD (4): Our next careful steal is not until we get to 2300 gold. We are at 1420 and have no opportunities for anything.

1550 AD (5): More of the same. Like I said at the start I honestly have no idea what is the best course of action. Mongols are starting the United Nations.

1555 AD (6): Complete Wall street. And fight some pollution.

1560 AD (7): Its time again for a careful steal from Korea. Manage to steal Atomic Theory. Holding on to it for now in hopes that the arabs will get something worth trading for.

1565 AD (8): More pollution cleanup. And cash buildup.

1570 AD (9): Our next steal has to be Electronics to trade to Koreans for Steel. Then some how we have to be able to steal up 1 leg and trade to the other.

1575 AD (10): Now there is some action. France Declared war on the Monogols. The arabs declare on the Mongols because of the MPP with France. Tried and failed to plant a spy in France in case we go to war any time soon. Maybe we can ally with the Mongols and use a bit of pointy stick research. Okay a long shot but I will leave that up to Yom to decide. A careful steal from France is 2500 and 3 turns away.

Please skip me, I'm still having technical difficulties with my computer and Conquests.

Is it a bad sign when the person in front of you skips and
you think "oh no, it's my turn?!?"

I'll do what I can :P (Elvis, you're on deck)

EDIT@Zed - Here you go - our lands before my turn:

RBC9-Hitties--1575AD.jpg

Tell me about it !

I just kept scratching my head going what can I do now???

The Mongols have the :tank: Big ones and we have knights :p

The horrific Mongols are at 55% pop and 51% area, 55,963K culture (+644cpt),
and are running around with hordes of Modern Armor protected by Radio Towers. :help:
Ironically, the French's culture is > 1/2 of theirs, so the game end won't be culture 100K
in 68 turns. I predict a space loss, and sooner. We don't even have oil for bombers,
which is not a real problem since we're 3 techs from Flight.

Ok, that's it... it's time to sink or swim. We shall win or die in a blaze of glory, not in
quiet lifeless desperation making no effort to win. Besides, if the ship is going to go down,
let the Captain sink with the ship. This is NOT a suicide attempt, but an attempt to win
and unacceptance of losing without a fight.

If we're going to win, we need techs, and have no time left to wait. If we can get to bombers
and make a few dozen, it opens up some new tactics. If the UN is built near us and we have
those, there's a chance. If we get exceedingly lucky with steals, at +500gpt income, we
have a remote outside chance of a space win. If we do nothing we lose. To see how much time
left to space launch, and to have better steal chances we need a spy.

Mind you, on this spy placement attempt we're going up against the nation of the cousin of
Mr. Pindleton who helped fuel a all-pacifist victory. (Nevermind if that makes no sense!)
Do you feel lucky punk? Well... do you?

The Mongols catch us and declare war!

[0] 1575 AD - We bend over and pucker... :help:

IBT - They *cruise missile* our cav on rubber, then come at Tyrana with MA. Then Ulaangom is razed to the ground.

1580 IBT - Tyrana is hit but holds, same with Hattusha. Erdenet is razed. Hubishna is
assaulted but holds.
1585 IBT - Tarsus takes its lumps, but holds. (Why are they plinking several cities with
piddling attacks?)
1590 - Elite Infantry attacks red MA and we get a leader!
Fighting to the end! Anita runs to capital, where we can't make an army -- too few cities!
IBT - The bombing of Hatusha begins as it starts to shrink. Koreans ally against us. Same
turn the Mongols wipe out the Arabs. 25 MA are now next to our capital.
1595 - Some MA go past capital to Emar, but some attack the capital instead, almost randomly.
Another dozen+ MA strwam out of Ankuwa towards us.
1600 - IBT - Dozens of bombers on our capital. Rax, factory, colloseum, bank, all go poof.
Worse, army is knocked down to 3 hp - so now they feel it's ok to attack.
Good news and bad news. Good news is they did not capture Hattusas. Bad news is
they RAZED it! I would post screenshots, but it would raise the rating of this
thread to 'R' for scenes of graphic violence. At Emar it's a pathetic sight to see a Pikeman
defending against Modern Armor. The city is razed.
The razing of the CIA gives us a message: "Maybe we should build the Intelligence
Agency!?" Ya think?

"BRING IT ON!" cries a defiant Charis Mursilis. They hear, and comply!

1605 - IBT - Alalah is next to bear the brunt of the Mongol forces, and it
collapses like a balloon at 1500psi. Hattusha the new capital is next, and though its
final musket tries to hold them off, he cannot. It's razed. At Tyrana one MA kills our
full strength cav army without even takinf a scratch! Demoralized, no one else in the
city has any hope, and the city is razed. Hubishna is next up, whoosh. Then Alalah, and
now there is but one city left... Tarsus. Can its cav army hold up? It does defeat one
MA, but there are untold numbers more where that came from. It falls.

Humiliating conquest loss - 55 hr, 40 min, in 1605AD. Look at the power graph, sheesh. Runaway!
Score: 1551. We're remembered as Mursilis the Fair.

(Zed-F, you wanted a pic? I got yah pic, right here!! :P )

Ouch. Well at least we went down blazing. I agree with microbe. We definitely need to have a revenge game.

Would it have gone any better if you guys had not attacked Arabia and instead got a dogpile on the Mongols as you had earlier planned, or were they simply too far ahead for anything else from that point on to matter?

Well. Wow. Nasty Mongolses apparently WOULD hurt poor Smeagol.

On a quick thread re-read...I dunno. I can think of like two or three things we could've done different, but...

1. Hurt the Mongols and not Sumer. Does this then open the door for an even worse overextension than the one we found ourselves in, combined with a monster Sumer or France? Dunno.

2. Snag the ivory sooner, and bend our civ towards harnessing the power of Ancient Cav. Well...duh, I guess. ACs are almost game-breaking in their lethality. I've watched it make a couple of games for people disadvantaged in the land lottery yet with access to ivory. Not even Crusaders are this good. Instead, we had...the Three-man Chariot. Sorry, but no. Too expensive, too weak, too chariotish. I'm glad that they're not the Second Coming of the Mounted Warrior in all of that unit's disgusting power, but no.

<shrug> Ah well. It was a good time, nonetheless, and I had fun, even while watching the Mongols use bombers on the Aztecs while our knights gazed in awe. ;) I'm not sure I can play if there's a revenge game, but I hope there is one. Between here and RBC5, the Mongols need some cutting down to size.

Attacking the Arabs was my [pimp] move but even at that point I think our fate was sealed. The Mongols had infantry and cavs before we had rifles. We never had a force of muskets.

The earlier war against the Mongols really should've been the end of us. I tried in vain to get them to the peace table but they were on a mission and the cavs cut right through our weak pike defenders. We lost 3 or 4 wonders on my watch, not that I could doo much of anything to stop them but we were finished at that point.

He let us live long enought to rebuild granaries and barracks and try to stay alive long enough to lose later.

Attacking the Arabs may have been just plain silly but I don't think a dogpile would've meant much to the mongols we were in no position to defend against them.
