rbd23 - a

Sorry it is taking so long...I ran into another problem between XP and Civ3...I have to delete and re-load.....again!

Smegged - please skip me this round when meldor is completed. I'm on mandatory overtime and can't swing it this week.

But great news.....

Pre-turn....Talk to Aztecs...They will give us two cities and 19g or RoP, Alliance against Zulu, and 19g. I take the later and Aztecs go froom being our enemies to allies.

Next turn Aztecs land two Archers near Shimonoseki and I wake the Elite sword to take one out....he attacks and we get a great leader!!!!! To protect him I rush the spear. The Second archer attacks the next turn and we win (barely). The leader is now in Tokoyo and Sun Tzu's is due next turn so its open as to what we do with him.

I dragged the Persians in the fight so every one is now allied against Zululand.

I danced the Samari shuffle to try and get the Aztec archer army out were I could kill it, with no luck. I did kill off two swords and an impi. The army moved out this last turn so maybe the next person gets to do the deed.

The Russian's did make peace with the Zulu.

I will keep a close eye on this one and maybe we can get in some quick turns. We need to finish this one fast.

UH - did you make peace with the Aztecs, and the very next turn break the peace?

We had the same issue in "B", and it was ruled against the game plan.

Umm, yes, up to Smegged whether that counts as exploitative or not, but I wouldn't have accepted that in my game. Signing a peace treaty and then immediately redeclaring war is questionable at best.

Sorry, it was the Zulus who landed the archers.....there was no violation of any agreement. As you probably noticed, I stated that everyone was at war with the Zulu.....

Ah, well that's better. :) In that case, definately right to give him the business end of the :hammer:

I knew what he meant :). It was just a slip of the tongue :)

After all, I was the one who mentioned the army, and I knew that there was no way that the Aztecs would have had two archers near our samuri.

By the way, I think a Samuri Army would be the best use for the GL. There are no immediately necessary wonders available, and we can build the heroic epic when it wins a battle. It would also give us a nearly invincible middle ages attack/defense force.

Toecheese <- voulentary skip until he returns
Smegged <- up
Meldor <- on deck
Melle <- left
Thrawn <- left

That means I'm up. Unfortunately I won't have a chance to play until late Saturday night (mid Saturday for USers). Maybe it'll give toecheese a chance to come back to the party :).

EDIT: That's a "got it" by the way.

Inheritted turn - I buy Invention off Xman for 90 gold. I also tell Russia to nick off. And they did.

860 AD - we complete Sun Tzu's. Every man and his dog cascades to Leo's or Sistene. Pity our Great leader rushes Leo's  I know I said it would make a good army, but this will save us $$$$.

870 AD - we complete Leo's. Every man and his dog cascades to the great library :D. We destroy a pikeman, an impi and an army at the cost of two Samuri (couldn't be helped, the Second samuri had TWO hitpoints left to take off the archer in the army.

Russia completes the great library and there is NO cascade. Obviously nobody can afford theology yet.

880 AD - I sell off our barracks that are rendered obsolete.

890 AD - A VET SAMURI looses to a NORMAL IMPI. The impi didn't lose one hp and promoted to vet status. grrrrr.

920 AD - The Zulus capture Tlaxcala, we are quite happy to take it off their hands :D.

The Russians complete Sistene.

950 AD - I trade 230 gold for gunpowder from Russia. We have three sources of saltpeter, but none in our current trade network. Get these connected ASAP and get our pikemen upgraded!

We have a settler in place ready to found the chokepoint city that we happened to destroy. Osaka is building another settler ready to take the fertile grassland below our fp. Somebody may want to reconnect our gems that were pillaged, and reduce our lux tax to 0%.

Hrmm...I'd be worried about Russia if I were you guys...they have two Wonder-producing cities apparently (unless they got a GL? Can the AI rush a wonder with a GL?)

Russia had cascaded from Sun Tzus, and had probably cascaded from something else onto that. That is how they got Sistene. The great library had been cascaded to by every civ, so it is no surprise that someone completed it. I highly doubt they got a GL, as that would mean that they got it fighting offshore from men carried accross in galleys. It's unlikely.

Our golden age ends when I click the turn button.

Kill off the Impi and Archer, and sword dies againt the other Impi, Aztecs bravely rush out with an Archer to pick the Impi off as it was down to only a single hit point. They promptly ran back into their city. I can only guess that they are pitifully trying to take the single Zulu city surrounded by their culture borders and failing.

We take Mdondo, killing 2 impi's, one sword at the loss of one vet samuri. We get 3 slaves who start clearing jungle. This also captures the Zulu supply of horses. Temple is rushed as soon as resistance is finished.

We raze Hlobane and get three more slaves who start a road back towards Mdondo. As the settler will put a new shiny city in it's place next turn.

With a suprise sneak attack on the back side of the Zulu nation, three Samuri take the city of Xochicalco, and the only supply of gems that were in Zulu territory. Right before we attacked a Zulu Archer was seen running from the city! Did you ask why? I will tell you.

4 Elite Samuri and 1 vet and 1 cat are pounding on the Zulu capital. I killed off their last horseman and two knights, along with 2 archers, 1 long bowman and a sword. This at a cost of 2 Samuri (one Elite). Four of the units are pretty beat up and need to shuffle back to heal but re-enforcements are on the way. They are down to Impi's to defend the capitol and an additonal pikeman and two Inmpi defenders have been killed already. We will need to raze and re-settle the area, so a settle is due next turn to be shuttled across to fill the gap.

They did offer us two pitiful cities and one tech to give them peace, but I turned it down. As the saying goes here in Texas, "Stick a fork in them, their done!"

I did renew the peace treaty with the Aztecs as he begged nicely, but I also made him renew the alliance against the Zulu (not that he did anything but kill one Impi. These agreements should run out about the same time that the Zulu are finished and we can then take the rest of the island from the Aztecs and then decide on Persia or Russia next.

A harbor was finished on the Russian side of the island and we still can't trade with them! What are they doing? They should have at least built one harbor! Maybe we should be so kind as to land some troops over there and show them how to do it?

No word from Toecheese so Smegged....Tag your it.....

Problem is not lack of harbours, it's lack of Astronomy. You can't trade over sea squares unless you have Astronomy or the Great Lighthouse.

Inherited - I renegotiate our luxury deals with X-man. We don't need the incence for happiness, and so instead I get astronomy + 75 gold from him for the two lux we are providing. I propose keeping xman as a valued trading partner for as long as possible. He has been friendly to us for the whole game.

We are finally able to trade with Russia. I sell them spices for 6 gold per turn.

I also notice that neither our gems nor our saltpeter has been connected yet. I'll attempt to rectify this on this turn.

In 1080 AD We storm Zimbabwe and capture the Pyramids. We also take Ngome.

Damn I love Samuri! A vet knight attacked a samuri with two hp. The Samuri promoted to elite! Another defended Zimbabwe successfully.

In 1140 AD We FINALLY get our next great leader! FujiWara. He's going to become the commander of a great and mighty samuri army.

However, Aztec Longbows are planning a sneak attack on us.

I get banking from Persia for 840 gold (ouch). Then printing press for banking from Russia.

I decide to give the Aztecs one of our lux, which means that when they attack us, they will lose rep and not us. I also decide to accept peace from the Zulus for their colonies. I rush defenses in each of those colonies.

I accidentally took 11 turns (my bad). Keep making demands of the zulus until they declare war on us again. Don't renew any ROP agreements, and don't make any more agreements with anybody that last for twenty turns. We have a very dominant position, and from here we can take the whole world! :hammer:

Darn, my hands were tied.....I couldn't get anyone to attack and no deals would run out during my turn.

I built infrastructure, Samuri, Infrastructure, Musketmen and infrastructure. Very boring.

The only interesting thing that occured was that Persia finished a tech and wouldn't sell it to us even for 60+gpt, but somehow both the Aztecs and Zulus with pitiful incomes manage to get ahold of it within one turn of Persia finishing it.

Persia and Russia started Smith's. We will have the tech in 3 turns. We might want to go for Military tradition instead and get Cav before Russia gets 'Sacks.

We did get a border expansion that took the poor Zulu's only iron source away from them.....too bad.

BTW, something hit me last night before I drifted off to my peaceful slumber, I have three PCs networked here at the house....no reason I can't install Civ3 on a second one and upgrade it to 1.17f to finish this game out. Since I only have one CD I can only play on one at a time anyway. That way I will avoid the install/un-install nightmare.

but I can't play for a good 20 hours or so.

EDIT: I've been thinking about the gpt problem, and I think that the reason we can't trade with gpt was that I may have accidentally made peace with the Zulu's one turn early (breaking our alliance with the Aztecs). Woops, my bad.
