rbd23 - a

Well, I think we can out research them at this point. I did move the science up and we are rocking that way. We may even be able to pull ahead.

As for the rep problem....Hopefully the game won't last long enough for it to matter...

I played 11 turns. Basically what I did in those turns was very simple. Press "next turn" for the first seven or eight turns. I also turned science down to nothing. We COULD try and get a tech lead, but we don't have libraries in our core cities, AND we can buy techs at HALF PRICE. The Aztecs have nothing but spears to defend with anyway. By the time we get around to attacking Xerces and Cathy, they will have gotten better defenses anyway.

My point being that we are not in a position to take a commanding lead in tech. One or two turns ahead of the enemy is not really enough at this stage.

Oh, and I took the last two Zulu cities - though they have a settler in a boat somewhere. We are also attacking the Aztecs.

I took some extra too....I think with this map and only the two of us maybe up to 20 turns would be better.

Executive summary.

Two leaders, built two armies. One filled with Samuri, the other at FP waiting to be filled.

Zulu founded a city to the south, moved one knight over to the horse island and took one of our cities that were defended just by spears. It took three Samuri and the rest of my turns to get that one stinking city back. Oh, yeah, the Zulu are finished.

The aztecs are finished except for one city. There is a caravel with three elite sammies right about to get to it.

One more tech and we are in the next age. There was a goodie hut onthe island that the lone Samuri is on....I popped it and got three two-bit barbs. The Samuri is now elite. I saw a Russian and Persian ship headed that way so I suspect they are about to settle there.

I expect that the next time I get this either Persia or Russia will be half gone....:hammer:

The save file is here

[Edit} About the same results...only one GL made army sits at FP. Took two turns longer withthe Aztecs so Caravel is not as close to last city. Again, sorry for the botch-up.

Meldor, my computer is telling me that it is not a valid save file. Are you sure you didn't play these turns under patch 1.21?

If you did, then you may have to replay them doing *exactly* the same things you did before except under the old patch.

Inherited - I trade all our gold for the four techs that the AI have. And then 6 gpt for nationalism off Russia. Looks like Persia is the one to get annihilated.

I fire all of the entertainers (more are later hired for various reasons). I switched away from the heroic epic since I don't think our game will go for long enough for that to matter.

Well, I declared war against persia, and they bring russia into it next turn. Oh well, looks like they will get :hammer:

I'm reasearching mil tradition so that we can actually attack some of the rifles that persia have.

There is one turn where I want to throw the monitor out of the window. An unfortified pikeman in our territory on desert forces a vet samuri to retreat. One of our galleons was attacked before this turn and despite having better odds of winning - it lost. A vet samuri was KILLED on a SPEARMAN who was in a Russian city on a hill. And it also seems like the AI has drafted HUNDREDS of rifles in Tyre. We kill two, another three pop up.

One of our saltpeter are exhausted, but reappears at a different location and is connected.

Dumb AI. ANNOYING CHEATING AI. We lost an elite samuri to a vet immortal. I am getting incredibly bad rolls in this game.

The AI just dropped off three or four units near our colonies. I'd bet money that OUR spearmen aren't going to kill or make their units retreat like theirs did to us.

So, in light of the recent events, I decided that making peace with persia was the only thing I could do. I then bring them into the war against the Russians. But these vile Persian dogs will not survive. Not until the end of the millenium.

Hopefully not until the end of the 19th century. I also agree to a ROP with Persia.

We FINALLY get mil tradition. I upgrade our cav as I go along.

The super-pumped up massively-powerful chunky spearman of Vladivostok does it again. This time he defeats an incoming immortal. However, our mighty samuri are no match for the enemy soldier - not even one as brave and cunning as this. We raze the city, which henceforth shall be known as The Former City of the Spear.

I get steam power from the persians. We have two sources - Persia has one. That is it. Russia is without, as are the Aztecs. Speaking of them, their final city is defended currently by spears. But those spears have repelled our Samuri twice! After he has healed up, destroy their meager civilization :hammer: capture the city - remember we want points! Every little one counts. Currently we are in posession of around 1339 points. We need more. The Russians are a good choice of next target as they have very small amounts of land, no saltpeter, and are broke. We are locked into monarchy though, so our consolidation should be quick. As soon as our core cities are finished their improvements that they are working on, they should be set to build military. We currently don't have enough. We are stretched very thin at the moment. The force is strong with Persia - so we should be preparing for a war with them. Careful conscription can help defend some of our colonies if used correctly - but be sparing and don't conscript our core.

Back in the ballgame -

Sorry for the extended delay, will patch back to 1.17f for RBD23a. This is my "got it" and hopefully will have something Friday night around 9PM or so.

Thanks meldor - glad to be back.

1500AD Preturn – Everything looks very good guys!! In hindsight, perhaps you were right smegged on the location of the FP. No matter – we’re still in very good shape. Shifted our Samurai army and all 6 cavalry from Tlaxcala and sent them toward Calix – better to have them help out in the war against the Russians. And, since we won’t be violating any ROP against Persia, they’re better used on the other front. Other than that, everything looks OK.

1505AD – Aztecs sign military alliance with Russia against Persia (chuckle). We finish a couple more cavalry and decide to continue their production. Dropped off our three cavalry in the Galleon near Tblisi. It’s guarded by spearmen (grin). Continued the military march toward Calix. Ugh, the cannons were on goto. No matter, I’ll leave them headed to their final destination since we won’t need cannons to finish Russia. Loaded up the Samurai and rifleman in Persian territory and sent them toward the Russian city to the south.

1510AD – Berlin finishes a rifleman. Rushed a Galleon in Kagoshima. Our cavalry capture the city of Tblisi with no casualties! Troops start heading for the coastal cities to head off to battle!

1515AD – We love the Shogun celebrated in nearly a dozen cities!! (Due to the furs we’ve just acquired in former Russian territory) Another cav is built, galleon is finished. Picked off a Russian longbowman trying to get cute. Meanwhile, near the Aztecs, their sole longbowman is defeated by our elite Samurai. Seems the Persians beat us to the southern Russian city. No matter – troops get back into the boat and head to the staging area of Ise.

1520AD – The city with the FP (Technotilian?) begins work on the Heroic Epic (why not?) More military units are built. Cultural expansion takes place in several areas – good job guys on forcing the issue of domain expansion. Cavalry get on the boats and set sail into Russian territory. Aztec spearman defeated.

1525AD – Several more military are built. Persians have discovered Medicine but we really don’t need any scientific advancements since we’re bowling everyone over militarily. Rushed another Galleon – we now have sufficient ships to ferry our cavalry across the ocean to Russia.

1530AD – Our samurai army captures Sverdlovsk! Our cavalry pushes further into Russian territory.

1535AD – Rushed a temple in Tblisi. Our cavalry capture Smolensk! No casualties yet this turn for us. Not too shabby. Our cavalry capture Novgrod! No losses on our side.

1540AD – Rushed a Swordsman in Novgrod so our cavalry can be put to better use (than guarding island cities). Rushed a temple in Smolensk – there’s a barracks in this city so it will be a good staging/healing area for the rest of our troops on the Russian front. Resting cavalry this turn – moved some healthy ones into position for an attack on Sevastopol next turn.

1545AD – Tblisi flipped (phooey) we’ll get it back. Samurai defeated Aztec spearman.

1550AD – We took it on the chin near Sevastopol. Lost two cavs and injured three -perhaps we should regroup a bit. Start to pull the troops back to Smolensk. Took out another Aztec spearman, but there’s more! (grrr) Tblisi recaptured! Fortified two rifles there – careful as it already flipped once. Suggest we starve the city and rush a temple to counter the cultural influence of Moscow.

Notes: I’ve started to mass all troops produced on the old Zulu continent in Tlaxcala. There’s about five cannons, five cavs, some rifles, etc. Suggest we continue massing here until the agreement with the Persians expires. Nearly all cities are involved in military production – I didn’t research anything this turn. I think we can we on our cuurent course without researching anything else.

Good luck to the next leader!

Pre-turn 1550 AD - Russian bow makes a Cav retreat.

1555 AD - Cempoala falls and the Aztecs are finally gone for good!

1570 AD - Sevastopol falls, Russia is done to 4 cities.

1575 AD - Russia and Persia sign a peace treaty. Thats fine, he was only trying to pick off a city anyway.

1580 AD - Odessa falls and so Russia is now without iron or horses. Odessa has the Great Library, Oh Boy!

1595 AD - St. Petersburg falls and with it comes Newton's, much better. We take a beating at Moscow. 'Tween turn Cathy for some strange reason moves a Rifle out of Moscow to try and take out a source of horses in our territory. OK, go ahead, I dare you.....

1600 AD - The odd gods of the galaxy finally turn in our favor. Moscow with only one regular rifle, and one conscript rifle is taken. We get Cop's as a bonus. We also pick off a bow that wandered too close. Horse pillaging rifle never made it back to help the city.

Russia is left with just on city, Kiev. When we turn on Persia watch out for the one city on our second big island. They have a couple of Knights down there and we are pretty thin.

RBD23A 1600AD

I only took nine turns this time because on the ninth turn I lost six cav trying to take 1 hp rifles. I destroyed Russia, and captured Tyre, destroyed another core Persian city, but the loss of those cav on my last turn really annoyed me. There were 3 rifles in the city. The first two rifles were taken to one hp before forcing one cav to retreat and another to die. One of our elite cav decided to kill the third rifle. Then SIX CAV died to the remaining ONE HITPOINT rifles.

Anyway, here's the save. We need to wrap this up or we will fall behind Persia in production. They have industrialisation.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads/rbd23a-1645AD.zip

Oh by the way, we lost a couple of colonies - they can be recaptured later.

Ahhh…smegged grasshopper. You have little faith – things are not as bad as they seem…

1645AD Preturn – Rushed the barracks in Swazi – we’ll need one in that area soon. Switched production in several cities close to Russia to Galleons and then rushed them – seeing as the treasury is gathering dust. The points should help, however. Sleeping workers guys????? Pay attention to the details fellas – they could have been working on the railroad (all the live long day).

1650AD – Lost a rifleman in Swazi – several galleons are built, as well as a rifleman and a cavalry. Persian ironclad loses to our galleon. Dropped five cavalry off at Texcoco. Shifted the galleons around and started picking up the stragglers to carry them to the front.

1655AD – Lost one cav near Texcoco. Several cavalry are finished being “built”. Switched Shimonoseki to a settler (waste of 28 shields) but the territory we will gain will improve our “domination”. Rushed all the temples on the former Russian continent. Captured the city of Texcoco.

1660AD – Workers continue to improve the rail net so we can rush troops to the frontlines. Rushed a couple more temples. Science rate still set at 0%.

1665AD – Our cavalry capture the town of Umtata! One more Persian city left on this island. We dropped off three cavalry near Ergill. Just like the cat said when it’s tail got stuck in the fan… It won’t be long now (thanks, drive safely)

1670AD – Lost three cavalry (grrrr) at Ergill to one rifleman. Hmmm…

1675AD – Lost a galleon and a cavalry. Luck is not on our side toward the end here. Moved all our cannons, a ton of cavalry and a couple of rifles into position near Bactera.

1680AD – Numerous cultural expansions in the Russian territory. Dropped a TON of cavalry onto Persian territory. Softened up Bactra with cannons – will attempt attack next turn.

1685AD – Softened up Bactra again – still not enough though. Next turn definitely. Rushed a settler in St. Petersburg. Captured Ergili! (About damn time) Captured Hamadan! (way cool) We have a foothold on the weakest Persian continent.

1690AD – Decided it was time to attack Bactra – lost one cavalry, the city is ours!! Took out four Perisan rifles just hanging around as well, loss one more cavalry. Not a bad exchange this trun IMO. Also decided to regroup the rest of the troops this turn. No sense in over extending ourselves.

1695AD – We lost one cavalry in Bactra, no matter – the cannons can now move in to defend our newly acquired territory. Samaria captured!

1700AD – Barbarian kills our settler near St. Petersburg. I know better than to send out an undefended settler – my mistake. We rush a rifleman in the area to prevent further incursions. The city of Fukushima is founded! (in Persian territory of course). Our cavalry marches unopposed into Darish Kubar and destroys the city. (that was tough) Sidon captured!

1705AD – Just for giggles (since I knew we were close after capturing Sidon) I hit the end of turn button, and VOILA!! Domination victory!! Well done guys!! :goodjob:

Again – well played guys.

Here is the save file if you would like it for your high scores list. End of turn once and enter through will get you to the promised land.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads/rbd23a-1700AD.zip

Now I can patch to 1.21 and stay there (yeah!) And see what the other teams did!!

And, it’s my number 4 score! (since I reloaded Civ a couple of months ago) Amazing how little civ I've played since I started playing succession games.
