RBP8 - Culture Conquerors

The great king Thunderhawk is appalled by one fact: Parishaka is not working at its best capacity! It's pulling a useless +3 food surplus with the food box full at size 12. It's reassigned from one of the game squares to a forest, and some workers are ordered to IMMEDIATELY get off their current jobs and get over to plant more forests on Parishaka's game squares. Thus can the city pull the most shields from the most good tiles.

Adding one more shield would not hurry that wonder along at all but extra commerce puts money in the bank and beakers into research. So no need to be appalled, no problem if we wasted some commerce getting some shields that were to be thrown away.

Got it but wont' be able to play today, it's already 11pm for me now so I will play and post in 24hours.

My bad, that game square had a shield so it was one shield swing, I keep forgetting that we are going after the 600 shield 2 culture wonders instead of the 400 shield 4 culture wonders. :p

But building Copernicus might run the risk of increasing your science, speeding up the tech pace :p j/k! (This is not a dig at anyone, I really don't have enough clue to make any serious comments, it's just a joke ok?)

Edit - Inserted the key word "don't"

Wow, look at those workers busying around : gotta love those lil buggers ! We got 61 of them, we are paying 125gpt for units.
But we can still make 338gpt holy macademia ! Oh wait a second here...the science slider is on zero with no Scientist
What happened there T ?
Rectify and at 10% MTheory is due in 11 turns and we still make 282gpt. Will set it to min science since the prebuild still has 20 turns to go and prod is maxed out in Parishaka. Will change this at the end of my turn as by then a 10% science will synch the prebuild to completion.

I knew it, I knew it : there is a huge unexplored island north of Babylon, argh. Now that we have Astronomy we are going to send the Glorious Cultured Zulus on a world tour !
Move our single galley to upgrade it in a Caravel and move a fast force of hut seekers and map explorers to that harbour.

Sell Horses to Egypt for 12gpt+114g (all their treasury)+ World Map.

560ad : Some workers finish irrigating grasslands in a size 12 city ? in 2 cities even
570ad : Concentrate on mining Orleans as it is working entirely unimproved terrain and pulling +4 food bonus...but at size 12
580ad : The 2 forests south of Parishaka do not reveal BGs :( The Egyptians and English show up with Gunpowder, uninteresting.
600ad : Babs want peace but have got nothing interesting for it. Forget it.
610ad : We get a Palace extension.
630ad : We sink a vet Bab galley and our vet Caravel is now Elite ! Yeeha ! OK anybody got a Great leader from an Elite ship ;) ?
640ad : Caravels sent exploring everywhere. One loaded caravel going towards the island North of Babylon, the units are for fast terrain recognition and hut seeking, not war. The Elite SoD near Isipezi was moved here to counter an imminent Bab landing.
650ad : Last turn -> we set Science to 10% and MTheory is due in 9 turns, perfect, our Prebuild will complete 600 shields in 10 turns :D

Once again, did not rush much and built a nice purse for Mr C's shopping : we have 7383g and making 324gpt and that's without Banks !
Almost Numismatic Zulus here gee !
I would really use some of that sitting cash and invest it in an infra boost, especially in outer rings cities to get them courthouses, mps, harbours etc...

Oh yeah, Parishaka is NOW the most magnificent city in the world :D

Good turn. Yeah, I left science off because the research would complete too soon as compared to our prebuild.

I had some workers irrigating grass even for maxed cities so they could work more hills at size 12. Irrigated grass plus hill is one more shield than two mined grass.

Too bad all this cash can't do a thing towards speeding production in Parishaka. No new techs - Banking, Navigation, or Gunpowder - appeared on your turn? Bodes well for Parishaka cleaning up on all the remaining wonders - we should be able to get Smith's along with the Shake and Newton's. Given that, if we do happen to get a Great Leader I'd definitely use him for an army so that Parishaka can build the Heroic Epic and later the Military Academy.

And no, ships can't generate GLs. :p Nice try. :D

Charis, go for it! CivGeneral, you are on deck... :scan:

Ive Got it :)

[ eep, as I preview post, I see a problem! CivGeneral, "Charis is up, you're on deck" means you go *after* him. I hope you see this in time 8-| ]

Charishaka, the Great Elephant, was released from his exile,
as the people at large were pleased with his fervor in facing
aggressive neighbors. He comes to power with a Great Wonder due
shortly, and the economy very robust.

[0] 650: Babylon will pay for peace, their whole treasury of 1gp.
Yet Hammy refuses to personally come over and kiss the massive
rear of the Great Elephant, so we passover this opportunity.
We wish to train a leader for the glory of Parishaka.

Since we have no need to die rich men, and with the blessing
of our previous leader, Great Fish, Charishaka breaks out the
national wallet. Sorting city list by commerce, then shields,
we top off many projects in our most productive cities.
Nandi, home of the mother of the Great Elephant, gets continous
rushing (after at least one shield made) during his whole reign.
Despite this wanton spending, there remains over 3500 gold.

[1] 660: England and Egypt have Gunpowder, others do not. We wait.

[2] 670: The Elephant rests.

[3] 680: Egypt starts Magellan.

[4] 690: Babylon offers to discount Gunpowder to 25gpt, better than
25gpt as best offer from elsewhere. Hammy also agrees to promote
a new Great Elephant display in the Zoo of Ur. When he agrees
to grovel a bit too, he gets peace. For now. (He's just not going
to send anything other than a piddly trickle if anything)
This should allow us to get a settlement on the half-Bab island (?)

[5] 700: Babbozos start Magellans too. We have saltpeter right at capital.

[6] 710: Clearing of jungle, lots of clearing.

[7] 720: MT due in 1.

[8] 730: MT arrives, we start ..., Bach's due in 4. I start on Navigation
just to keep things slow.

[9] 740: Chop chop.

[10] 750: Egypt and England have Banking. Deal for this one. Babs start Bach.
We're due in 2. Since Babs now have MT it should be save to use that in trade
for Banking to either Egypt or Englad, but I leave the execution to next ldr.
Charishaka goes to sleep, with the treasury now at 1073g,

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/RBP8-Zulu-750AD.zip

Good luck to next leader.
I *did* use v1.21 since I saw no further objections and I
know Skyfish is fine with 1.21 now. If this was incorrect I'll
do these over.

Now Ive Got it, Sorry for the confusion. I must have read it wrong and posting while I was eating lunch :s. I have not downloaded the one that I mistakenly thought it was my turn.

CivGeneral, I don't mean to pick on you, but I do need to ask you to pay more attention to what's going on in the game.

First, we have our variant restriction that we aren't going to go attacking more cities, so we didn't need to build up any military (unless a city had nothing else to build.) Second, you had PARISHAKA building military? That city is supposed to be our glorious culture city, and should be building or prebuilding a wonder at ALL times! Third, we were all agreed on keeping the science pace running as slow as possible - not doing research ourselves - but you had us research two technologies on your turn. We want to keep the world AWAY from techs like Physics, so that we can have Parishaka get all the remaining wonders of Shakespeare's, Smith's Trading Company, as well as Newton's. We were also agreed on NOT trading away luxuries to other civs like Babylon, to keep them less productive while Parishaka cleans up on the world's culture.

If you aren't going to play by the group's plans and goals, I might ask you to reconsider your participation in this game. No real harm was done apart from Parishaka getting delayed on wonders, but it really didn't help.

Anyways, I've got it; will get back on track with not researching and with building wonders in Parishaka. Can get to it on Monday evening. Cartouche, you're on deck for after that.

I wonder if someone who react to this would. I almost played in this one, and I couldn't believe Paris builds military. I was more blow away by build regular muskets and mdi before.

If you had a palace pre-build you could have easily used banking to get economics and Smith's for both culture and economy.

I almost feel like I should apolgize for resigning after seeing this turn. I know I would have done better.

Military builds ? :crazyeye: :mischief:
We already had too many units
Gee how dreadful...losing time on that prebuild in Parishaka was too bad :aargh: 8 turns is like 200 shields or a third of a wonder lost, that real could cost us !

Sorry don't wanna sound too bad but making :smoke: moves OK we all go through this, i't's part of the process but reading the variant rules is the minimum politeness... Funny part is the game would already be long finished if it was a "normal" game :p
Relax, take a deep breath, do not get

Anyway I still had a real good laugh reading the report :D

@Cartouche Bee -
I missed them one.

:rotfl:

There's instruction to aide when someone is on the wrong path, and there's kicking a man when he's down. Let's avoid the latter, and may we resemble more the culture of glorious Parishaka, and not become barbarians ourselves...

The Great Elephant

The corrupt, overly militaristic regime of ShakaGeneral is overthrown and a successor from the revered line of Thunderhawk takes the throne!

He orders all military production changed to banks, save Parishaka which begins another enormous building, the purpose for which is as yet unknown. He also orders for no more scientific research to take place.

He also orders construction of a great Voyage, to interrupt any other nations working on the same and prevent their building a yet greater wonder. The city best able to do that is Bapedi. Tours is also coastal, and has both greater terrain sheild potential and less corruption, but Bapedi has more shields in the box, has a cathedral, and Bapedi needs some worker labor still. Actually, Thunderhawk decides to use the ample treasury to rush Tours' cathedral, and both cities will attempt to build Magellan's Voyage and we'll see which one gets there faster.

He fixes some other problems: workers clearing a jungle near Zimbabwe that isn't within any city radius, and some city micromanagement.

Diplomacy reveals that everyone except India has Democracy. We'll look for a brokerage deal between that and some other technology. We also rectify the oversight of not having an embassy with Babylon.

==========

Little happens. In 890 AD, Babylon extends our peace treaty.

In 910 AD, we get the message that Shakespeare's Theater is under construction by the Egyptians. Still, we don't need to buy in just yet; not until Parishaka reaches 400 shields; it's at 180 right now.

Also in 910 AD, I discover two caravels full of knights and settlers fortified off the coast of Egypt. I have absolutely no idea why that was the case. If they were heading to the northwest island, great, but why in the seven hells were they fortified? Well, I dunno what to do with them either. :)

940 AD: The Babylonians start Smith's Trading Company. Nuts. Parishaka won't get both that and the Shake. Had it not been for CivGeneral's mismanagement, we'd be wrapping up Shakespeare right about now and in the lead for Smith's.

I decide to buy Economics without a brokerage for 470 so that Ulundi can swap to Smith's. That city has 150 shields in the box and is producing 24/turn. Parishaka can't get it barring a miracle of AI city mismanagement - Babylon city, London, and shield-strong Memphis are building Shakespeare's and will cascade to Smith's. So better we get it somewhere than let a rival get it, and hopefully that will terminate the cascade before anyone reaches Newton's.

==========

That's all for now. In 950 AD, Parishaka is at 270 shields towards the Shake and will finish it off in six turns. We can look for brokerages during that time, or buy in at full price five turns from now. After that, it must begin a new prebuild for Newton's, of course.

Magellan's is due in 9 in Bapedi. There will be no cascade from Mag's to Shake's because the latter will complete first; and there won't be cascade from Mag's to Smith's because the AIs are building Shakespeare in better cities and those will cascade to Smith's instead. So we may as well cut off that branch of the cascade by building Magellan's ourselves, which may end up protecting Newton's down the line.

Be very wary about cascade from Smith's (if we get it) to Newton's; do NOT complete Smith's ourselves if the AIs have gotten Theory of Gravity! That is why we MUST NOT research right now; a single turn of devaluation on Physics might WELL make that difference.
